advice on a good online ballet class platform

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience on one of these online ballet class platforms. Are they good for intermediate students building up on strength and technique? Due to change in job, I am unable to attend regular ballet class in person but I am hoping to keep it at home till I have time to go in person again. But there appeared an explosion of content online and not sure which one to choose.

PBT- https://www.pbt.dance/

Dance masterclass- https://www.dance-masterclass.com

Balletclass.com- https://balletclass.com

Rambert plus- https://rambert.org.uk/rambertplus/

ENB active- https://active.ballet.org.uk

BWI- https://balletwithisabella.com

DANCIO- https://www.dancio.com

Kathryn Morgan- https://kathrynmorganonline.com/home/

Of those, of the ones I know, BWI is particularly good. I think ENB Active is probably a bit basic for your requirements. PBT is really well-laid out and would be good for building strength. Dance Masterclass have some really interesting, different foci in their videos.

Do have a look at Sander Blommaert’s Ballet on Demand too. https://www.balletondemand.com/courses

If you’re able to take live, online lessons, Danceworks and Pineapple still have some classes which are both in person and on Zoom.

The alternative would be to take a live class online - both Danceworks and Pineapple in London offer this, as does Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Centre (5 hour time difference between New York City and BST). I can attest to the excellence of the care taken by several teachers to give attention & feedback to those online. I think this is option much better than doing something on your own. And you have access to a wonderful range of teaching expertise live!

Hannah Frost has been really good at that in our experience, picking up every error either of us made when she had a studio full of in-person students as well.

Dance Masterclass is interesting as an educational resource, not sure there's anything I'd use as a regular class in it.

The time difference from New York can be really useful if your logistics are complicated - I do tai chi classes from New York very late in the evening my time, which means they almost never clash with stuff going on locally.

Second Hannah Frosts pineapple classes for being excellent at checking what those on zoom are doing and giving personalised corrections via zoom. I started ballet in lockdown by doing zoom classes with Hannah and she was amazing. At the time she said to me if I could get to pineapple in person even once a month then she would look out for me and check where my dancing was at in person and give me some corrections in person, which I took her advice on and she did do. I would say definitely try her zoom classes as she does really give 100% to making sure her students are executing correct technique.

Also Hannah Martin from BRB on you tube has lots on strength and flexibility videos which are really good - I really enjoy her channel.

Just to note: some people can do recorded classes, some can’t: my wife will happily do a recorded zoom class, I will not. Just doesn’t work for me at all, no idea why: I need the live person on the other end.

Best to know which type you are.

Me too.  I need someone on the end of the class telling me what to do or I lose focus.

I currently only do a short online class with my tango instructor on a Saturday morning.  But i'm planning to check our Hannah Frost's class in the summer when my in person classes stop.

If you're free in the daytime Bennet Gartside's Everybody Ballet school has online classes during the day on Mondays and Thursdays with Leire Ortueta.  I do them when I'm on holiday but can't while working.  Leire is a very good teacher who gives really good feedback.

Laetitia Lo Sardo also does a really good repertoire class but again it's during the day in the week so I can't do it on a weekday.

Personal attention and he seems to know how to do online well.

Yes during lock down I did Sander Bloemmaert's class via Instagram a few times.

Really beautiful pure teaching - you know those classes which have simple choreography, but are actually very hard? That is Mr Blommaert's class! No wonder his pre-professional students do so well.
