  1. Well, I love beer, but with you on this bridiem. It never ceases to amaze me that people cannot sit still for an hour or two without the need (compulsion?) to eat and drink at the same time.
  2. so ended the run of Giselle last night, and once again, young Akane Takada was utterly glorious. I was sad that Laura Morera couldn't do her Giselle shows, but Akane was certainly more than adequate compensation. Earlier in her career I was really taken with Ms Takada, but then for some reason, she seemed to lose a lot of spark (an injury perhaps, or slow recovery from one?). Anyway, that seems to have passed now and her performances this run have been breathtakingly great. No sign of ego, as in, this is dancer X dancing Giselle - no, she WAS Giselle. I can't think of a higher complement than that. Definitely my favourite Giselle of the run
  3. At the Friends rehearsal Tuesday, with the second night's cast. Some photos from that: Vadim Muntagirov, Beatriz Stix-Brunell © Dave Morgan. 4. Yes - the injury would have prevented proper rehearsal time for such a major role as Giselle, as the run already under way. Probably same applies for Winter's Tale sadly. I would have thought that creating a new role, and the huge amount of rehearsal time that takes, would be a priority, especially when coming back from a nasty injury.
  5. I was at the rehearsal Tuesday night - so here are a few pics. Broken Wings (Annabelle Lopez Ochoa) - Irek Mukhamedov, Tamara Rojo (plus artists of the company) © Dave Morgan. 6. I hate bring told 'there's no demand for X' when I've just proved that statement wrong by asking if X was available
  7. We only had the photo call today, at Friends Rehearsal (the General Rehearsal). Downloading pics from camera to laptop, as I type...
  8. Well, as I've not seen the last one (didn't know there was one, to be honest) and like almost everyone else have seen about 8-12mins of rehearsal of a couple of snippets from Liam's new version, pretty hard to compare
  9. At least she had the night off from dancing as a Wili, bless 'er! :-)
  10. My gosh, I did enjoy Akane Takada's Giselle this evening. Act one was a coy, naive young woman, utterly smitten by her cad of a suitor; the looks of adoration before betrayal were heart wrenching, so that when that betrayal came, it was lump in the throat moment for sure. Her act 2 was super, almost a desperation to save Albrecht, despite what he had done. And Akane has certainly rediscovered those springs in her heels, her jumps either straight up or in the grandest of grande jetes were high, fluid, and softly landed. Quite possibly my favourite Giselle I have watched this season. She was certainly my favourite 'young woman' in Two Pigeons.
  11. Some DO have the sword on when they first come on. What baffles me is that all it takes to go from Lord to peasant is to remove a red cape. This was also a popular move in Metropolis, as a disguise mechanism....
  12. Foteini Christofilopoulou was at the rehearsal of Alexander Whitley Dance Company's 'Pattern Recognition' at the Platform Theatre, Central Saint Martins. Here are some sample photos... 13. I think you must have another production in mind; I can only ever remember the slow walk forwards with Giselles discarded flower, to the closing curtain and thunderous applause. The more moving the performance, the longer it takes for that applause to start! :-)
  14. One of the best Insights I've been to for a long time! (I'm fingers crossed for Laura's Giselle too!)
  15. Foteini Christofilopoulou was also at the photo call - so here are a few more photos: NYDC in In-Nocentes © Foteini Christofilopoulou. 16. though new, fresh casting of the up and coming youngsters may freshen them up a good deal! :-)
  17. I do like both - though Beauty can be a bit of a long haul at times - but to have over 1/3rd of performances for the year between them, does seem a bit on the heavy side...
  18. lots to look forward to for me :-) Jewels, Woolf Works, most of the mixed bills but especially Carbon Life, Symphonic V, Thrill of Exactitude (though I may be sitting out Strapless and Marguerite), Fille to kick off the season, Mayerling, a good few Nutcrackers for Christmas cheer. Beauty will depend upon casting - its a long stand for the 'wedding' act if there's no one you particularly want to see doing the gpdd. Also can't say I'm keen on Anatasia, though will no doubt go to a few. Would liked to have seen Sylvia revived (seems overdue to me) - perhaps we'll get that next time. Now, where's that cheque book.....
  19. y Yes, she's caught my eye too, on several occasions. Look forward to watching her progress
  20. they are 'magic' shoes in the ballet story within the film's story, and once she puts them on, she can't stop dancing (to her doom). As the dancer in question was a ballet dancer, they were pointe shoes. If a more contemporay dancer in the proposed remake (for want of a better word), then they could well be any other type of shoe - though barefoot would ruin the story! :-)
  21. had to book the saturday matinee, with so many of my fave dancers featuring...
  22. I'm surprised by that - perhaps its because lots of sports are now playing on Sundays rather than the traditional Saturday, and so taking away potential audience (as in, dad (or mum) won't go to the theatre as the match/race is on, so family doesn't go at all). Or sunday shopping....
