  1. I knew Springsteen wrote "Because the Night". Didn't know he wrote the other. I love "Because the Night" Its fun this revisiting old bands. We are off to The Drifters tonight. will be interesting.
  2. When Martin went I think he was about 14 and yes there were few boys, certainly senior boys. I would imagine at a young age most of the boys may be local. So it could depend how many lads the local school has. The local school, well the large one, was called Roshe I think and it was from this school the organisers came. But this is 9 odd years ago so not sure how much help I am. Hopefully others have more recent info.
  3. I went to see 10cc a couple of months ago. Not the total original line-up as Godley and Creme left years ago. I think 1976. The whole night was amazing. Can't believe how much they wrote for other people. Well especially Graham Gouldman. Totally brilliant. Funnily enough we saw The Manfreds last night. Mike d'Abo and Paul Jones both in it. Again the talent is huge. Mcquinness is also there. Infact it is pretty much the line after Jones left but with him back. No Manfred Man himself though so you don't get "Blinded by the Light":-(
  4. We are mean but tbh I wasn't sure if I was allowed to repeat here what was said. But you need a copy anyway.:-) If you have issues buying it let me know and I'll send it to you .
  5. And a certain someone gets a mention:-) (edited for spelling)
  6. Just a heads up that this months Dance Europe has a review of Ballet Theatre UK's current production. :-) I always find it lovely when reviews of the company my son is with appear in the "grown up" magazines.lol Hope Hfbrew enjoys this one.
  7. I know how you feel Hbrew. I can never post a cohesive review of the Bavarian State Ballet. Firstly I'm biased and if Martin is on stage, I'm probably not watching the others well enough. Really looking forward to Ballet Theatre Uk's the visit to Tunbridge Wells. Not too long now :-)
  8. Martin did this years ago. It is very good with great teachers. It is close to us so we knew of the lady that runs it and her school did local festivals. I'd highly reccomend.
  9. Re POB I think if you look at French companies as a whole they are more "French" than say a German co is "German". The EU is wonderful for dancers (no political discussion here as to whether it is great for us!) as they can work easily in other countries but certainly my impression is France does not embrace this as much as other countries.
  10. There is absolutely no doubt that when auditioning for companies having the words "Royal Ballet" on your CV is a huge plus. It's instantly recognisable which sadly other schools aren't. Bit like having a top Uni or Oxbridge. Interestingly I asked my son whether he felt the RBS should take more UK students to Upper School and he wasn't convinced at all. Taking that then into the Company and ENB etc he said he didn't think there should be any compulsion to take UK dancers. His view was you want your company to be the best it can be and therefore no place for quotas.
  11. I like both "Dancing Times" and "Dance Europe". Dance Europe I think gives more reviews of companies abroad. If it is a sub for someone who is thinking of auditioning then "Dance Europe" is very good with audition info. Though, of course, it is also available on their website.. I get both via subscription as none stock it locally.
  12. Yes many companies are doing apprentiships or have junior companies. Munich, Zurich and others have junior companies. Apprentiships and junior companies are brilliant as they ease the young bodies in. A step towards full, arduous company life. But beware not all apprentiships are equal. It should not be an excuse not to pay at all.
  13. If you want clues just say. The rat is def misleading.lol
  14. Also I went to a school with nuns. Actually it was one of the first I guessed but i must have typed it in wrong which was why I was so stumped. So I'd decided it was something very obscure or I was just thick. Anyway a hint and I tried again and this time my typing worked. lol
  15. I think it is incredible if true. How is she serving her constitiuents? Hasn't another MP done it or said they were going to? Also is this really what an MP should do? How is this helpinh her provide a decent service. Maybe its all a mistake but a grave error if true.
  16. Finally got the last one! So I've done it. Phew that was addictive. Thank you for the link.
  17. 3 left but i have to go out! so the nuns, the flag and the chips. Pm help much appreciated. The flag is really bugging me as I know I know it !!lol
  18. Im now going mad.lol 5 left and still can't get those damn nuns/sisters
  19. Just short 8. Mind you can't fine all 8! Re the nuns I've tried that, I think, won't accept it. I must be being really thick.
  20. Now obssessed. Stayed up til 12.15am and still only 55 ish. I'm so cross I can't get the nuns as it must be so simple. Oh only started at 11pm .
  21. Even though my son dances with a classical company (mind you their contemporary is fantastic) I love the more surreal. Sometimes I think contemporary pieces can just go on a bit long but I felt Decoufle's company had the right balance. It is hard to describe which is why I did not even attempt a review. I thought the guy who did most of the talking, a clown by training, was fantastic. Real stage presence.
  22. Saw this on Friday night and wow. My type of dance. Dance theatre really. They dance, they sing they are funny, genuinely funny. A truely, wonderfully creative dance evening. My husband saw Philippe himself a few years back in Calgary and was stunned. Sadly he, Philippe, not my husband, does not dance in this but it is wonderful. We nearly didn't make it. Trouble on the M25 but thank goodness we did. Also I love these 11/2 hour programmes with no interval.
