  1. I think the performance yesterday served to remind me how difficult a ballet Sleeping Beauty is, particularly the role of Aurora and so how even more amazing Marianela Nunez and her prince Vadim Muntgariov were on Monday evening. They sailed gloriously, graciously and effortlessly through every step, smiling as if all the effort was nothing. Marianela Nunez was even more remarkable considering she is in the twilight of her career. Alongside them Fumi Kaneko was an Impeccable Lilac Fairy. Yesterday evening, Mayara Magri got off to a shaky start. In the first section of the rose adagio she tried to hold the balances and unfortunately she wobbled quite badly which seemed to affect her confidence for the rest of Act 1. It was a curious choice ( I assume it was a choice because not everyone does it) to decide to do that in your debut, it always seems so unnecessary to me anyway and more often than not it just looks awkward because it's incredibly difficult to hold without wobbling, so much better not to bother. She danced Acts 2 and 3 well but unsurprisingly she seemed tense. I didn't feel much chemistry between her and Cesar Corrales, also making his debut and returning from injury - impossible to give a stellar performance with all that going on. The highlight of the evening for me was Letitia Dias and Joonhyuk Jun as Princess Florine and the Bluebird. Sensational.

  3. It was this late yesterday too - not much before 6pm
  4. Beautifully done ENB. As with the opening night the entire company was on sparkling form, the swans being particularly superb. The icing on the cake this afternoon was astonishingly classy performances from the leads Salenko and Frola. A spectacular black act with jaw droppingly good pdd and solos, (Frola's variations were quite simply sensational) and immaculate, tender, sensitive white acts.
  5. Everything was fabulous last night. I absolutely love this production and it has the best ending - off they go to heaven together as they should ! With all the departures in the principal ranks recently it fell to relatively newly promoted Emma Hawes and Aitor Arrieta to take the opening night of this London run and I thought they did so with a quiet confidence and great conviction. They are both tall dancers, Emma Hawes has particularly beautiful long arms and legs and she used them to stunning effect. Aitor Arrieta's partnering was sensitive and secure and I felt they established a real emotional connection. The entire company was on fine form. The peasant corps in Act 1 danced with exceptional enthusiasm, and the swan maidens with great beauty. I can't single out anyone, everyone on that stage danced with huge commitment which is no mean feat after such a long run of Nutcrackers. It was all helped immeasurably by the speed of the music - no turgid tempi here, everything absolutely flew along and for my money was far better for it. Very happy to see the Coliseum packed to the rafters, the company deserves to have sold out this run.
  6. I'm looking for a single ticket for this if anyone has one they can't use.
  7. Thank you for reporting on these performances. I'm looking forward to seeing Iana Salenko in ENB's Swan Lake.
  8. My daughter got the email - she's not a friend and hasn't booked any tx but I didn't receive it and I am a friend and have booked tx.
  9. I asked the BO today and they said returns will go back on the website immediately although I've not seen any yet. I was wondering if ENB might have saved some tickets for patrons and will perhaps release some of those nearer the time.
  10. I see on the RoH website that Mariko Sasaki and Joe Sissens have replaced Akane Takada and Cesar Corrales (Sugar Plum and Prince obviously) for both their upcoming Nutcracker performances.
  11. it’s very helpful for people to give information about how strike action affects people getting to performances but the post I commented on was nothing to do with that.
