  1. Just a quick note. Maybe focus more on the year rather than the age of dc . NBS students can be anything from 16 to maybe early 20s in their first year. They will be doing classes at the same time too. May not be possible to all be under 18 but possible the same year. Mj
  2. Hi, I do agree to contact each property direct rather than the head office / national teams. To my knowledge there have been no problems with the younger students in any of the mentioned accommodations. My advice would be to contact the people we have suggested to say ....your DC are NBS students they can start from age 16 & that you are willing to accept to be responsible for their well being & their conduct. Also that places are offered on ability & funding is not automatic & it maybe that places may have to be turned down if funding is not offered. I find it strange that now they are making it difficult for the students to secure accommodation. Mj
  3. Just to add ...I think this was spoken about in an earlier thread when my dad was starting in 2021. I will try & find but hoping someone else maybe quicker ? Mj
  4. Hi there, I had this problem & Iwas dealing with Eszter, who left & then Zobia. I had the conversations about deposits & contracts saying our dd/ds could only accept places due to funding & this could be way past the cut off date. It was taken to managers & I got this changed & we were allowed to cancel & have a refund ....Miss Gray had to confirm to Unite that this was the case & we received our deposit back. I'm not sure if they are still honouring this policy but worth an ask. Stress that it is no different to uni students not getting the grades as the funding is done also on ability etc. I wish you luck ...be persistent, persuasive & positive ! Mj
  5. Just had a reply & she doesn't know anyone at Mill Point. Maybe if other parents of students already at NBS could ask their dd/ds. Mj
  6. Hi, I've just sent my daughter a message to ask if she knows of anyone who lives at Mill Point....she in classes at the moment so I'll let you know when she replies. Mj
  7. Hi there, My daughter & her flat mate were only 16 when they started NBS In September 2021. The 4 who share the flat now were all just 17 at the start on this year's tenancy ....all now 18. Make sure you let them know they are NBS students. Contact details I have for MSV Dwell are: Phone : 061 200 5560, Email I deal with for tenancy: studentcare@dwellstudent.co.uk Person who has helped me in the past: Email: colm.leonard@dwellstudent.co.uk I hope this helps. Mj
  8. Just a quick look on Dwell site & seems still accommodation in MSV, just up the road from Medlock. My daughter was 16 when she moved into here a few options still available there. Same as unite students I was asked to confirm & sign to say I would take responsibility for her well being & her actions being under 18. Mj
  9. Hi, Hoping the above info will be helpful when deciding on tenancy length. This will ( unless a change is made, which I haven't known to happen ) be the term dates for when your DD / DS start. Mj
  10. Hi there, There are quite a few student accommodation buildings very close to NBS. My daughter & friends are in MSV dwell & quite a few others too ....maybe an email to enquire & say that dd / ds is going to be a student at NBS ...in the past they have tried to keep NBS students together . It will also depend on whether you will go for ensuite room or not as to availability . As well as MSV ...there is Parkway, Artisan Heights, Bridgewater Heights & a few more that are just a little further away. Some have eye watering rents.....I can't believe how much they have gone up since my daughter started!!. Also dropped our daughter back in Manchester today ....looks like more accommodation is being built behind her building & opposite Medlock & Parkway this was just a lift tower when she went back in September but there's a whole lot of building appearing each time we go back no idea when it's planned to be finished! Good luck in your search & never give up hope! We didn't have her funding offer until 1st September 2021 but still managed to find accommodation!! Be persistent!! Mj.
  11. Hi, my daughter is year 2 & loves being at NBS. Students have been rebooking accommodation really early ...my daughter & her flat mates had booked before Christmas!. They are in MSV dwell & she has been since her 1st year & has not had any problems at all. Quite a few from the unite properties are moving ....across the road to MSV dwell. Saying that though accommodation does come available throughout the year & there are other options very near too. She is following the jazz route ...they still have ballet lessons but not as many as classical focus. Yes they have to travel to Denton but this is one bus ride 30/ 40 mins. To the bus is about a 15 min walk & off the bus to centre pointe is about 10 mins walk. You can get a yearly bus pass...useful if your DD / DS will also use the bus to get shopping etc. As others have said if you need any other help please don't hesitate to ask. Mj
  12. Hi there, My daughter went to mainstream school & applied to vocational schools to start in year 12, she too had a no from Tring ...even before we officially applied! But hey ho !! She now attends The Northern Ballet School in Manchester & is in her 2nd year & loves being there. As others have said there are a mix of ages in each year. The students live in different uni accomodations, which are all very close to the Dance House & they have flat mates from NBS. First year all students follow a mixed path & then at the end of this year it's decided which is the path then to follow, either classical or jazz focus. I'm sure you & DD will find the right path for you to take. It's very difficult st 16 but our Dd& Ds do surprise us & do very well !! Mj
  13. We are in the Premier Inn as i type. 2nd year Daughter settled with flat mates. Good luck to all 1st years starting tomorrow !! Enjoy you will love it !! Mj xx
  14. We were in The Dancer's Room today & they had Russian Pointe, R Class & many other brands of pointe shoes. We were also informed if the tax increase & the difficulty of getting Grishko, R P etc. Mj
  15. Dont worry too much. Miss Gray was very understanding when my daughter was about to start last year that if her uniform didnt come on time that an alternative could be worn until it did arrive! Not ideal but we can't determine supply & demand x Mj
  16. Hi, My daughter has just finished her 1st year. We bought the zip up tracksuit jacket & the tracksuit bottoms. She wears the zipper all of the time, the trousers not so much. Mj
  17. Its was fantastic ! We loved every minute of it ! The students & all involved behind the scenes worked so hard which showed in the end product. The enthusiasm & energy they all had was amazing. True performers. Mj
  18. Well i cant quite believe that tomorrow will be the start of the 3 end of year shows! How did we get here so quick !? The students... our dds & dss have worked so hard & over the next few days all their hard work will be on show for us all to see. I can't wait !! Well done to each & everyone of them ! Mj
  19. We will be there on the Saturday. I can't believe how quickly my dd first year has gone !! I'm sure all the students starting in September will have a fantastic time, just as my dd has. Mj
  20. Have you tried ringing the accomodations direct? I think this approach works better than the websites. MSV Dwell direct number is 0161 200 5560. I'm sure others will have direct numbers for NM PW etc . Mj
  21. Hi there, Don't give up there will always be somewhere. Bridgewater heights is close too. I do know that some of the present year 1s live in buildings with no other 1st years. Yes it's nice to have class mates around but a lot of the time the students just want to go back to their rooms to eat & chill. They have long hard day's & don't always spend the evenings together. The accomodation blocks are all so very close that within a few minutes all if them could be visited! & believe me they do this. Rooms do become available as the weeks go on, I wish you luck. We didn't get my daughter's room until 2nd September last year & it's worked out perfect. Mj
  22. Hi there, I think we were an exception to the rule! We didn't actually have our Dada funded offer until Sept 1st !! So was a real rush for us. We had booked in at New Medlock when we initially had our place offer ( without funding offer ) so when the months were passing & we hadn't had funding offer we cancelled & was following Plan B ( A levels ). So I know this doesn't answer your question but maybe will give others hope that it's never too late ! Don't give up ! Keep options open make plans A, B or C its daunting thinking of planning a life changing event in a matter of days but it's doable & for us worked out perfectly ! Good Luck Mj
  23. My daughter is present year 1 & lives in MSV Dwell. She was 16 when she started her tenancy they do ask for your permission for them to be living along side 18+ students & agreeing to taking responsibility . We have had no problems there were 5 NBS students in dwell this year. Daughter had rebooked for dwell this year.
  24. Can't believe it's been almost a year since this thread was started! More so that our dds & dss are not so far off the end if their 1st year at NBS! I'm sure somewhere in the thread that storage was mentioned but had a quick read but can't find it. Maybe I'm going mad !! Do any of you have info on storage companies used in the past? Even though we are only 1hr 40 mins away by road --- dependent on wether the M6 is having a good day ..or not! my dd has enough stuff to fill a 4 bedroomed house! she just might need these things, I'm wondering if storage is the way to go for us? Any info would be greatfully received. Thx Mj
