  1. I know the feeling. It's a horrible wait ! Our dd wouldn't have been able to attend without Dada funding. Hang in there, we were on the path to plan b within days of starting college, then dd got an email & the rest is history!! It really can go that close! I'm a planner so it was then panic to find accomodation but again that worked out perfectly, if it's ment to be it will happen. Good luck ! Mj
  2. Hi , we were told if you don't get funding in 1st year you don't get it in 2nd or 3rd year. Mj Also maintenance us looked at each year so if circumstances change the amount of maintenance loan can also change but fees are paid for each if the 3 years .
  3. Hi dancefanatic, I'm not sure if Becky at The Dancers Room in Lichfield supplies So Danca pointe shoes but she does have a huge sellection of pointe shoes at the shop. I would highly recommend their service. Mj
  4. Ok this is what was agreed last year. I would hope they would have the same policy this year. Please contact Zobia at NM & ask if this is a possibility. I know it's a new year but to put your mind at rest contact & ask them ! Good morning M****e I am really good thank you, hopefully your lovely family as well. Yes, I have very good news, I just received the email yesterday afternoon, If **** won't be eligible for the Dada funding and you will show us an evidence in this case the NO PLACE NO PAY policy will be applicable, my operation manager just confirmed this for me 🙂 So in this case you can cancel the booking for free of charge, and you will get back the £250 advanced rent as a refund. I hope this helps 🙂 If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me. Kind regards, Eszter Mj
  5. Believe me I know this feeling. We were in exactly the same boat last year !!. Please contact Zobia & ask about NBS students having same cancellation policy as uni students, as last year we too had to make a decision before a cut off date ...think it was end if May. At that time it was Easter I spoke with & she got this changed so we could cancel once we knew if we had a Dada offer or not. Let me check through my emails & see if I can see exactly what was said. Mj
  6. When we originally booked NM I found that the staff ( was Easter then I think Zobia not sure if it has changed again ) were very mindful of ages of NBS students & not mixing uni & NBS students as their days are so different. I would just suggest talking to who is now over sales & voice your concerns & get as much info / reassurance as possible. As a mom I know how difficult it is for us to place our dds or dds in the hands of someone else & we have to get it right! Mj
  7. I don't think there are rules with mixed sexed flats, I maybe wrong as my daughter is in dwell, as long as the students are ok with it My daughter shares with a male fellow NBS student ....both 17 now & it works great. Mj
  8. Yes eleventh hr would be us !!! Lol once we had the offer everything was sorted very quickly & in time for the 1st rent installment. We give dd £40 per week ...more than covers her weekly shop & washing/ drying, she also shops at Aldi near to the arndale centre. Every now & again she will pop to the Tesco express if she needs a top up on bread fruit etc. Train tickets have also come out if this money as any left over stays in the account each month so accumulates over time. What we also do is when taking her back after half terms/ holidays we stock up on toiletries, cleaning products etc so a little more is spent by us also saves her having to carry extra shopping . We actually had the conversation about budgets etc some of the other students get anything from £25 - £50 per week it just depends on foods bought & if they do their own washing ...or take home at the weekends . Mj
  9. Great news that future year 1's plans are moving . I can't believe that we are now half way through our dd first year at NBS. Some of the rents are eye watering & I personally know that lots of things have to be taken into consideration. Also students needs & wants also have to be considered. When we were first looking in the early days my dd was insistant that an en-suite was a must, which is what we booked but as time went on & a funded place wasn't offered this was cancelled. Then at the last moment a funded place was offered well at this point we didn't have the luxury of being picky! . . Accomodation we were able to book was a non en-suite which she was happy to take just to be at NBS. Each student will be different. The sharing has been fine as there are only 2 of them in a 4 bedroomed flat...but do know of some where there are 4 & they manage quite well. Next year as she gets the chance to choose there are 4 of them sharing a 4 bedroomed flat ( still in MSV Dwell ) but these are all en-suites more expensive but manageable! Just! You have to have a mixture of wants & needs but also finances don't take on too much the dds & dds will manage. Mj
  10. Well done !! Congratulations to ds . My dd loves NBS I'm sure he will too! Mj
  11. There are quite a few 16 year olds just turned 17 year olds in the now 1st year. They seem to be doing well. Before actually starting at NBS they quickly found one another on social media & started chatting getting to know about each other before they actually met. My daughter found this a help & they socialize outside of classes & even the students that commute are involved & have stayed over many nights ! Mj
  12. This is what my daughter has said "i’d say it doesn’t really matter what style of dance you do when auditioning but it should be what you think best shows you off whether that be ballet or jazz or contemporary and so on. do try to make it an interesting routine though e.g. express highlights and react to the music rather than just dancing through it (be dynamic) and the best tip of all is to perform it!" My input would be...do what you enjoy & feel comfortable doing adding more stress is not a good idea Hope this helps. Mj
  13. Hi , My dd had to do her audition all by video....mad world at the time! I will send your questions to her, she shares with a 1st year male so maybe get his input too. Mj
  14. The 44 weeks is what my daughter will be doing next year ( all booked already in a 4 bedroomed flat ). We have a 48 wk contract in a non ensuite this year ....but this was due to having 12 days to sort accomodation so we really had to take what was available! It's worked out really well as there are only 2 of them in the 4 bedroom flat so no struggles for shower times or kitchen space. I think it would have been if there were 4 of them sharing. She likes being in dwell & has had no problems ...obviously or she wouldn't want to stay. The students are dotted around a very small area around NBS & often are in & out of others flats / studios so being in different buildings has not stopped then from forming friendships. Even those who commute sometimes stay over. I'm sure you will soon find out which is right for your dd. Mj
  15. Hi mum5678, Funny you should ask about singing....my daughter is a first year & just this week they had to sing solo ( approx a minute verse & chorus ) for the first time in front of fellow students & they are just into the 2nd term. I think they were all dreading it ( I know my daughter was it's probably her least favourite thing to do !! ), but I suppose it had to be done . So please don't let him worry it's not like it's a lesson everyday. I wish him luck in his audition ! Mj
  16. We bought cheap ...Asda I think 4place dinner / cutlery sets & she's uses 2 of each item ....we too had the less she has the more she needs to wash up . We did leave the other 2 of each in the box ....on top of her wardrobe incase of breakages. To add the large Primark bag she took back with her to replace the washing basket has been a huge success! She says it's much easier to carry n to get through the doors etc Mj
  17. Hi At dwell per wash is £2-90 & dry is £1-50. Mj
  18. Yes I second the medicine box .....nothing mini about dds though ! Lol. I think all of them at some point last term had coughs colds sore throats etc. Also a basic sewing kit including safety pins. Mj
  19. She went once this week ...all good intentions when going back after Christmas !! Lol. But if you have questions fire away I'll ask her. Mj
  20. Hi, Please don't let my daughter advice you ! I think she has everything but the kitchen sink !!! 🤣 I would say this can also depend on which accomodation you go into. We found that extension leads were a must ....daughter can't live without her phone by the side of her bed & no plug there in her room also where her radio alarm clock is. So we also supplied a small drawer set as her bedside table the drawers contain unknown treasures , that she obviously needs but don't think ever used ......get my drift as to why it going to be either storage company at the end of year 1 or a van to bring it all home ....to then do the reverse 8 or so weeks later !! Sorry not much help ! All that aside we just bought what you would need for food prep & cooking. We did take a sweeping brush & dustpan & brush. Already in the shared kitchen was a mop & bucket, bowl & drainer rubbish bin, electric kettle, toaster. She had a washing basket which we have now changed to a large primark bag as she says this will be easier to carry, get through doors etc. She has a tripod clothes airer ...doesn't use a drier for her uniform & a few other things so this comes in handy, for her move next year we don't think it will fit in the new accomodation so have bought an over the door airer for then ( similar kind of thing to when you go caravan holiday & airers hang over the window ledge. Mirror for make up, a peg board for photos ...was 1 there but she's filled both ! Took all bedding...there was a new mattress protector supplied when we arrived. In dwell MSV you can borrow a hoover from reception ...don't think she does this very often ! Then all their personal stuff. There will be loads of advice here & each will have their own add one & must haves. My dd has only been there for a term so still early & we are still learning too. Mj
  21. I think you should also take into account that all 1st years won't be 16/17 year olds & being with the same school year group is also something to think about. I think this year the age range is 16 - 20 year olds in the 1st year. So maybe think more in terms of 1st years rather than just age. Mj
  22. Congratulations to both your dds. I'm happy to see that US are now offering free cancellations as this wasn't the case last year & I had several conversations with staff about this & was first rejected but later on accepted that ...as we know funding can be a very last minute thing ! Also make sure you do say for NBS students as they will try & place the students together they also were mindful that NBS students can be age 16+ unlike most of the other students who will be 18+. Again we have had no problems with dwell MSV accomodation & my daughter plans on staying there next year. I believe that there is refurb being done & rooms are being rebranded. Mj
  23. Hi balletbean, I had heard of storage but have no idea how they charge ...is it per week / month? Are the rates reasonable . Well if taking her back after Christmas is anything to go by we will need a removal team & large ...very large van !! Lol She a ' well I might need it' kind of girl ! Mj
