One of my friends daughters does it - believe it’s invite only from people who were on the SWL for JA’s- started sept ‘20 I believe. Not sure what it actually involves though

Fairly certain in the current climate everyone being able to afford non funded places is not going to be an issue. Also, a good number of those that get offered one school may well get more than one offer- I think Tring have done multiple audition sessions for a few years- not sure about the others but it must work ok. As long as everyone gets same same chance at going for the funding audition no matter when their first audition was then shouldn’t be a problem

I see Tring are doing an ‘ask us anything’ on their insta stories.... guessing “when are you sending yr 7 letters out” wouldn’t get an answer 😂

Hi assessments are done annually with written feedback provided. That aside, I’ve always found the teachers, admin and Emma really helpful and whilst (in this current climate) it might not be feasible for a quick word with teacher before/after class, if you have questions or concerns I’m sure they’ll happily answer if they can if you drop them an email. re things to work on- worth your daughter taking a small notebook with her then during a quick drink break or on the way home if she has been given any good corrections in the class she can write them down as something to practise.

Just a mum here! But festival/comp experienced. Start small and with solos/duets/trios at most. The largest stress in our school is group dances- trying to organise rehearsals, people being ill, sorting and paying for matching costumes etc. Our school is v experienced at comps but this is THE hardest thing. You need dancers and parents that are invested in it and put it ahead of other hobbies/commitments otherwise a group dance will never work. Look at the All England dance website- you’ll find info on the affiliated festivals on there. They move around with say a festival being a ‘qualifier’ one year but not the next. check out Instagram and websites of dance schools in your area- most will have pics of dancers at the festivals they go to so you can start to look at the info for those and build a list of possibles that way most importantly you need to be open with parents especially if they are new to it. It is a massive time commitment. Festivals are usually in half term/school hols (fine if it’s a solo dance and dancers away but not if you suddenly have a dancer short in a duet or trio because they’ve gone on hols). Entry to the comps are usually reasonably cheap but you have hours of rehearsals to pay for not to mention costumes (tutus are upward of £130 new) and shoes etc. it is incredibly rewarding to do if you go ahead though- so good luck!

In the auditions they are given numbers based on date of birth. Potentially they’ll do that here too but I would expect them to look at them in batches for each centre

I thought 4 weeks would prob be minimum and that would tie in with about end of term 🤞🏻

I think it’s a consideration for those with more than one offer. Ballet boost have had online teaching through all of this....small groups with individual feedback. RBS (I think) sent JA’s videos to follow but nothing live.

The audition on video was a bit different from the ones in studio as in studio they do more travelling exercises- skips, gallops etc. Obviously couldn’t ask videos to do that due to lack of space in homes. There’s plenty of info on the ‘normal’ auditions on the forum, but takes the form of a class, very friendly and nothing hard. They do some basic plies, tendus etc and some stretches and check posture and musicality. The dancers really enjoy it, the video was weird and we missed the audition ‘experience’ this year!

I don’t know - we did ours on Dropbox and you can’t tell if it’s been watched- those that are on Vimeo can see.... I guess they’ll send results all together though so was just interested if any of the Vimeo users were still waiting for theirs to be viewed!

Anyone else on Vimeo waiting for theirs to be viewed? Or has everyone on here that used Vimeo had theirs watched? Waiting is tricky!

I don’t think it tells you on Dropbox 🤷🏼♀️

Wow that’s huge! Did you film it in high definition? Mine was 2.1GB

Pilot study investigating flexibility training methods
Macy1 replied to drdance's topic in Doing Dance
My daughter is very flexible / on the low end of hyper mobile. We had one gym coach who was insistent that she do splits up on blocks and chairs as splits were ‘easy’ for her. It really didn’t feel right to me so I pulled her out. Her dance school is much more careful with focus on strength and conditioning so they can hold active extensions rather than getting ‘over’ splits etc -
Yes last in person audition was mid May last year and we heard mid June so fingers crossed it might be by end July...

How to ‘keep up’ with vocational school training?
Macy1 replied to Pinkpip100's topic in Doing Dance
Our daughters dance school has a good record of taking students with potential and developing them with some going to full time schools in yr7 and upper school levels. They run a class that is separate to the grade levels and students are encouraged to apply for associates and summer schools. One thing I noticed from the list of your daughters activities is that it’s all dance classes. The students from our school that take the additional ballet class all do at least 45 mins of a Pilates class a week. I think maybe if you are focussing on ballet you could consider dropping acro if you’re worried about time and look at doing Pilates/PBT/conditioning
