  1. If the BP-sponsorship was solely for the Big Screen performances and if they have now ended, surely ROH and BP could find something else to sponsor? A discount for performances (eg Travelex at the National Theatre). The list is endless!
  2. I can't access the full article but I certainly agree with the extract. ROH is not the only arts organisation to have ditched BP and the British Museum is under pressure to do so as well. And this in today's Telegraph (firewall) - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/01/29/covent-garden-stick-opera-ballet-leave-preaching-extinction/
  3. I see there are still quite a few seats available for the Cinderella Gala. Do the Galas tend to sell out quickly?
  4. I agree wholeheartedly with your comments regarding the Two Pigeons (esp with Hay and Naghdi). Its a shame the most recent run when it was paired with Asphodel Meadows wasn't filmed. Perfection.
  5. Although giving four stars, Mark Monahan is another reviewer not overly keen on SB! Also rather harsh on Claire Calvert.
  6. I have travelled during one of the strike days in December (RMT) and was able to travel by getting a bus to the closest working station. Unfortunately with an ASLEF strike, clearly no trains can run without drivers so presumably the network will be even more badly affected. According to ASLEF's website the trains companies subject to the strike are: The companies affected include Avanti West Coast; Chiltern Railways; CrossCountry; East Midlands Railway; Great Western Railway; Greater Anglia; GTR Great Northern Thameslink; London North Eastern Railway; Northern Trains; Southeastern; Southern/Gatwick Express; South Western Railway (depot drivers only); SWR Island Line; TransPennine Express; and West Midlands Trains.
  7. I have only seen the current version which I first saw in 2014. How does this version differ from the previous incarnations, and how similar is it to the 1946 originally danced at Covent Garden? I have had a look at ROHCollections which gives a lot of useful background detail https://www.rohcollections.org.uk/Work.aspx?work=1344 Are any of the previous versions available online?
  8. From the ROH's Flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/royaloperahouse/albums/72177720305277015
  9. Very much so. Looking forward to seeing this cast again in March. I head a child crying earlier - it sounded like a baby from the amphitheatre but I thought under 5's weren't allowed?
  10. The general rehearsal is tomorrow morning (Saturday 14th) and the run starts on Monday. The cast sheet for tomorrow has now been released - I am very pleased that William Bracewell and Fumi Kaneko will be performing (lucky for those of us who will be going tomorrow and I am seeing them again later in the run). https://static.roh.org.uk/digital/cast-sheets/Sleeping+Beauty/Beauty_general-v5.pdf
  11. According to BBC News - If workers agree to strike, details must be given to the employer at least 14 days before it begins (unless the union and employer agree to seven days).
  12. Just posted on the ROH's YouTube - a quick behind the scenes view of The Nutcracker - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSm7p-Kzy28
  13. Yes - I've had the same problem. All other streams seem fine.
  14. My subscription was monthly - I have cancelled before payments start next month and my subscription runs until 18th January. If you cancel before your payment is taken and within the three month "free" period (as far as I can see) you won't be charged.
  15. Got round to visiting the Winslow Homer exhibition at the National Gallery today. Bit of a shock how busy London was as I don't normally visit during the Christmas holidays. Anyway, well worth visiting if you are in London. Ends on 8th January. https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/exhibitions/winslow-homer-force-of-nature There is also a Lucian Freud exhibition taking place at the NG which ends on 22nd January.
  16. As a Friend I haven't had to pay anything (thus far) but I have to agree with you its been rather disappointing to date. I was hoping to see things that haven't been already available on DVD etc. Still no sign of the Ashton triple as I mentioned on the ROH's IG account when they were reviewing the past year (lots of likes for the comment but no response from ROH!)
  17. Presumably that's why companies use extracts from previous professional filming for cinema screenings/recordings etc in their advertising. They have no need to rely on filming from the audience.
  18. It is disturbing and distracting to others in the audience and quite possibly to those on stage as well - hence the ban.
  19. A very Merry Christmas to the Mods and all other members and wishing you all a very happy New Year. This site has provided sanity, interest and happiness in a very uncertain year. 🥰
