  1. I find mine start to squeak when they are almost worn out so I have the opposite problem!
  2. Sending healing wishes @Viv well done for carrying on - I hope you get a result you’ll be happy with.
  3. I would say try to learn them to be on the safe side @NeverTooOld Good luck to everyone taking exams this session!
  4. Massive congratulations on your distinction Ballet Gremlin! I tried my best but only got High Merits
  5. Results are in and I got a high merit for my grade 6 exam!
  6. Apologies, I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I was just giving my opinion. I probably didn’t word it in the way I should have.
  7. Completely opposite point of view here. I adore syllabus and exam work. I find it gives a sense of purpose, something to work towards and a clear framework for progression. I completely agree that if an individual student decides that sitting the exams isn’t for them, then absolutely they can just progress to the next level when they are ready. But free class alone (with no other supporting syllabus lessons) can only be fun for the purely recreational dancer.
  8. What has everyone’s favourite grade been so far?
  9. Are they all still released at once for the whole tour then? The current session dates document says approximately 4 weeks from the date of the exam, but that will obviously vary a lot for those who had their exams at the beginning of the session compared to those who are still to do them.
  10. Hi everyone, who else is impatiently awaiting RAD results from the summer session? I love exams more than anything, but the wait for the results can be a little frustrating hehe. The anticipation, the hope, the nerves, the playing it all over in your head for the hundredth time! Lots of luck to all of you 😊
  11. Oh, yes of course. My teachers seem to believe in me more than I believe in myself at the moment! I think my loss in confidence maybe outweighs my loss of strength/ability.
  12. Hi everyone, Since returning to class after lockdown I have been struggling a lot with pointe work - I was never brilliant at it but I used to be much better than I am now. Since I have put on a fair amount of weight over the last couple of years, do you think it might be worth trying my usual shoe with a stronger shank? I’ve googled this and there is a lot of mixed information - some say stronger feet need stronger shanks, some say stronger feet need less support and therefore softer shanks etc etc. It’s a bit of a minefield of information! Currently I feel like my best plan is to order a new pair of my usual shoes in the usual strength and also my usual shoe in the stronger shank so that I can work with both and see what helps? (obviously the main thing I need to do is work on my strength to get back to where I was pre-covid!). Any opinions/ideas/advice welcome.
  13. @Vivit was only grade 3, but I’m still proud of myself anyway. I worked so hard for it!
  14. I’m still very enthusiastic about doing the exams. I finally got my first Distinction this time ❤️ I already am planning to line up more exams as soon as I can! I love the challenge, I love to have a goal, I need something ambitious to work towards.
  15. Watching this with interest. I applied for a result enquiry (just a more detailed report rather than an appeal) for my last exam and I did find it very helpful. There were very specific comments from the examiner that made a lot of sense with hindsight. I have heard several stories of much reduced results compared to what was expected with the video exams. For this reason I have held myself back from doing an exam that I probably really should be done with by now.
  16. Surely the exemption of ‘sport for educational purposes’ would apply to syllabus classes? Especially the ones which award ucas points or are a prerequisite to a teaching course?
  17. From what I’ve heard from my dance school and from the exam board, in tier 3 adults can do exams but not attend training for them? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Tier 2 allows classes within households and support bubbles only, so that would suggest to me that private lessons can go ahead in that tier. In tier 1 adults can attend class as long as the maximum class size is 6 students. looks like we will be missing out on syllabus classes in the studio for quite some time yet 😢
  18. Yes, partially. Only because I’m sure someone on here commented that their students scored very much lower than expected after doing them. Also because my fitness and strength has decreased a huge amount since the beginning of the year. I just don’t think I’m going to get the marks I’m hoping for.
  19. I’m confused though, if indoor sports can still continue in larger groups then nothing has changed since the last announcement? Why say it extends to indoor sport if it actually doesn’t?
  20. From the new online guidance about exceptions: exercise classes, organised outdoor sport or licensed outdoor physical activity, and supervised sporting activity (indoors or outdoors) for under-18s I think this looks like children and teen dance classes will be fine, but it looks like adult ones will be limited to 6? And what about mixed classes with teens and adults?
  21. Glad to see the new rules are clear as mud... as always 😏
  22. I really hope the news conference tonight makes it absolutely clear whether or not dance classes are included or not.
  23. I’m loving being back in the studio... but I’m also so frustrated with myself about all the progress I’ve lost. I need to start making some decisions about whether or not to take video exams this term - exams I would have been ready to take in summer had all this not happened. But my fitness, technique, appearance, confidence(!!) and general exam-readiness have all deteriorated a LOT in the last 6 months. I just don’t know if I’m prepared to accept a lower mark than I may be capable of in ‘normal’ times. People keep telling me the marks don’t matter, but if that’s the case then why do exams at all? They matter to me, a lot. The idea of working towards an exam and getting feedback and hopefully getting the mark I hope for, that’s what motivates me. I would rather get 80% in a lower grade than get 70% in a higher one - I’m a perfectionist, that’s just how my brain works. I can always do the higher grade in future. Convincing my teacher to let me try a lower one again is proving much more of a challenge.
