  1. There's only a light covering here at the moment and friends in Wimbledon report similar (with latest forecasts projecting the heavier snow for Friday/Saturday) so I assume it will be on although would be good to know for sure before we seen out!

  2. Ok so I know it's only Monday but as a few large snowflakes start to float around outside the window, with "Beast of the East" weather warnings issued for tomorrow and Wednesday, I'm already feeling slightly nervous about our prospects of making it to Wimbledon for the Swan Lake audition on Weds. Fingers crossed it's not as bad as forecast!

  3. @Anna CΒ and @Legseleven and others, you may have hit the nail on the head. If you get through the initial sift and as far as an interview (where appropriate) then I suspect there is more opportunity to demonstrate the value of non-academic activities there, in person, than might be the case with forms alone, but I would hope that you don't get downgraded for including the information even if it's not counted.Β

  4. Very interesting topic, especially on the subject of whether a range additional activities need to be demonstrated alongside academic qualifications in order to increase the chances of an offer. The experts in this thread seem to agree that this is not the case so is there a disconnect between the expectations of the HEIs and the perceptions of the schools? Many years ago I was privileged to be accepted into an extremely academic university where I enjoyed four years' of high intensity study and left with a good degree that has no doubt opened doors for me in later life. This university was able to pick and choose at will as it was so oversubscribed with very highly qualified students (one of my peers achieved 8 A Grades at A level in one sitting!). However, they also turned away many, many highly academic applicants. They were interested in the "whole" individual and on what else he/she could bring and contribute to university life. I also think they were making an assessment on how well the person might settle in and benefit from a university education in general, as well as the requirements of the specific course.

Anyway, I digress. Good luck to everyone whose DCs are currently in this process. Hopefully having dance, or music or DofE or sport to focus on will help them get a break now and again from the stress of A Levels even if the exam points are not taken into account 😊

  5. Great news @coniger (and all others with places). We didn't apply this year after having already committed to a local dance festival the same week but great to hear the success rate may be a little higher than it has been for summer schools. Hopefully the Spring course will become a regular thing 😊

  6. Thanks @Annasophia, congratulations to your dd!

Β I think dd1 will probably take a step back now and focus on (academic) school and perhaps finding another passion or hobby just to do for fun. The internal competition at her local dance school is extremely strong and her confidence has gone through the floor this year. Dd2 always rationalises every knockback so I'm sure she'll be auditioning for years to come!!

Sorry to hear that MAK, just to get to finals in a tough full cast all bells and whistles production Year is a tough one.Β

No post for us yet but another friend received a No letter this morning and she’s a fabulous dancer so...ugh.Β

The only thing I regret is that she hadn't auditioned before. With hindsight I would have encouraged her to do so as next year would be the last time she'd be eligible and if they do another smaller scale production the chances will be even slimmer (let's hope they don't). In the meantime, huge congratulations to all the yeses. We will look forward to seeing you dance next year!

  8. The dreaded "no" has finally arrived so we have DD1 into the Finals and DD2 with a recall but no Finals. We definitely would have predicted the result to be in reverse for this one. My two literally seem to take it in turns with good news and bad news, it's an emotional rollercoaster. Thank goodness both of them are emotionally a lot tougher than I am πŸ˜‚
