That sounds great. Silly question but I'm assuming the accompanying adult doesn't have to participate in the class?

Funnily enough I said the same thing! I am hoping that it's a case of staying in the building or possibly the studio.ย

  2. Kate Webster runs drop in RAD vocational classes on a Sunday morning at Central School of Ballet - details on the website under Central Nights I think. I understand that though the classes are aimed at adults, teenagers can definitely attend as long as an adult accompanies them. Dd1 (14) is planning to go to some.

I see the Facebook picture has changed. As DS wasnโ€™t at casting day Iโ€™m trying to work out if it is Wimbledon!

Yes it's Wimbledon. Glad you mentioned it or I'd never have known! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hi, I'm new here. My DD did Elmhurst SS last year (loved it, but teacher made sure we applied to different places this year to get experience of other schools) and has got a place on the ENB SS week B this year. Just wondering, because I can't work it out from the contradictory wording on their website and offer letter, do all applicants for ENB get offered a place or is this actually a big deal to be offered? Thanks in advance x

Just a quick update on this. As I mentioned previously DD1 has a place for Course B Week One and DD2 has been on the waiting list and receiving quite regular communications about this. We have just received a final communication saying that the courses remain full and that while some people have withdrawn from the waitlist there are still 66 dancers on it!ย

DD had those parts when she did Swan Lake. She quickly realised that they were far more fun than being a Swan. They did the Lady in Waiting dance en pointe and the Hungarian in character shoes. They are on stage for the whole of Act 1. Hope that helps.ย

Haha @Pointetoes perhaps I shouldn't mention that to my Swan?!ย ๐Ÿ˜‰ To be honest, I think my two dds would have been buzzing with whatever parts they got as they seemed to really enjoy the whole experience last night and now can't wait to start in August (it's their first EYB)! DD1 will apparently dance in Acts 2 and 3 - a swan in one and a Spanish dancer in the other - and DD2 is in Acts 1 and 3 as a Mariinsky dancer (though her initial text described it as "Moskesky dancer" which made me chuckle). Sounds like all the parts are lovely :)

  6. @Raquelle,ย  dd2 had that letter (please come back next year) when she didn't get a place from the SWL a couple of years ago and they were closing the waiting list. She auditioned the following year and it was true - it wasn't a guarantee of a place she went back to being a straight "no" with the original "we wouldn't want to dissuade anyone from applying again in the future" letter!!๐Ÿคฃ

  7. Dd1 auditioned (successfully) in her (favourite) deep purple leotard in Feb this year which I'd encouraged her to wear because I'd read elsewhere on this forum that it was lilac that Miss Lewis could not tolerate.

Think we'll avoid all shades of purple at casting ๐Ÿ˜ฑ.

    Good luck with the dvd!

  8. Lots of areas within 20-30 mins walk (including Sadlers Wells ๐Ÿ˜Š). The river/Tate Modern/Borough Market in one direction, Covent Garden another, Oxford Street another, Islington and Clerkenwell another. If your dd auditions successfully you'll be spoilt for choice.

Terronis is lovely - favourite haunt of DD1!

    Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

  9. There are currently about 15 students in Prep 1 but very occasionally I believe dancers will be selected to join via other routes e.g. summer schools, in class assessments etc. Also, Central operates a very strict but well explained "your place is for one year" policy and there will be a small number of dancers in any given class that will be repeating the year. So in Prep 1 the majority of girls will be from Year 7 but a few from Year 8.

I checked with my dd and she confirmed the audition was made up of standard exercises and she thinks some improvisation.

    Good luck!

  10. Plenty of places for coffee and snacks nearby though most waiting parents (and dancers) do seem to end up in Pret ๐Ÿ˜Š.

The audition is a standard ballet class with some barre and some centre practise as far as I remember being told but I'll ask my two when they get back from dance (๐Ÿ˜‚) and see if there is anything specific.

I think there were about 30 in the Prep 1 audition last year and in 2016.
