  1. I too would suggest a dance physio. Even one who works with Fascia. It depends on what type of shin splits. There are 3 types. Lisa Howell has several you tubes about it on her " the ballet blog ". Our dd developed shin splits just before her exam last year. Ice rest massage
  2. I asked my dd to write this post as she is the one using it. This is what she said. "These books are fantastic. I particularly like Front Splits Fast. I have been using this program for the past few months and my flexibility has improved. Her books are amazing, very useful and easy to read. I recommend getting the video with the book. " - my dd Re "the perfect pointe"I would add that she is a firm believer in looking after your feet and encouraging correct alignment. She always take it back to basics.
  3. The DVD is a great resource. Actually all of her products are. You can catch some of her DVD on you tube. But she leave the secrets to the DVD to explain.
  4. It probably goes without saying but Once you've got all that information, I'd definitely be going to the home with someone else. Just for your own safety to begin with.
  5. Are you staying close by or just dropping off you dds? We are staying at an apt close by. . I'd love to have some company during the day while dd is dancing.
  6. Our physio. Suggested we get a long roller particularly for flexibility. So it is definitely one of its uses.
  7. There is a place for gymnastics. But I think gymnastics shoud only be done if its with a qualified instructor. Too many problems if attempted by yourself. So I m not a big fan of mixing both. JMHO.
  8. No we haven't but it was on our list of summer schools. Get onto her Facebook page. Lots more info and photos there.
  9. You are right. They are just beautiful. Captured so well
  10. My dh father is from a small island of west cork. There is a complete book with every family to my own family. My dhs mother posted our children's names as children of Irish decent living in Australia. I have been notorious for asking all our older dim members rather interesting details, for reasons like your original post. Trying to trace roots. The skeletons that come out once who begin looking and asking are amazing and alarming. You sound like you've hit on a good few trails. It's time consuming but very rewarding to be able to trace roots. In my dhs dads case, because it was an island the local authorities would only collect data once a year. So dates are inconsistent as are names. Dropping Os As etc for fear of reprisal when they left there homeland.
  11. One other small point. The Australian Ballet does not have boarding. It is something they are aiming to set up as soon as possible. It will be an asset Marilyn Rowe would like to b put in place before her retirement. Not sure it will happen as soon though.
  12. I heard back from within a few days via email.
  13. That's great little ballerina. I'll tell her. She'll be pleased. Feel free to pm us
  14. My dd is going week one She is in seniors. She's looking forward to it. She will know one though. Hoping she will be ok.
  15. Pas de chat - you comment is very encouraging. Thank you
  16. Olivia has placed dd in seniors and has been very helpful with accommodation.
  17. My dd is quite exhausted too. She is in preservation made until the holidays next week. Dd has quite a good diet. It just the hours that are exhausting her. Hoping Easter holidays will help her recover.
  18. Olivia has been just wonderful in answering emails. I feel like we know her already. We are looking forward to it. And meeting everyone
  19. The staff were very approachable and prompt in retuning my enquiry. I love the location.
  20. My dd is attending this summer school. The staff have been wonderful in answering questions. Who is attending? Are you boarding?
  21. That's excellent information. Thanks for such a thorough report.
  22. I was wondering if you had thought of taking magnesium phosphate- tissue salts.. its quite quick at stopping cramps
  23. Hi there's a thread on it at the ballet talk forum.
  24. We are preparing our dd as well. She won't be leaving for a year or so but we are already putting several things in place. Teaching her about finances. Access cards. She puts the wash on and helps hang it out. She knows how to clean bathroom. Toilets. Just the mundane stuff. Cooking. She helps me prepare foods. And has a small array of foods she can cook. We know she'll need to go away to a full time ballet school so it's I portent she knows the basics. She'll have to stumble and get it wrong but hopefully by then she knows enough to be confident to care for her food and her clothing etc. So I think it's important. Exams or not, there is always time to pass on our knowledge and help them along Just my thoughts.
