  1. I agree re. tap. My dd is studying Grade 5 tap at the moment, in case she wants to go down the musical theatre route at a later date. She's a really good tapper but the top half of her always looks like she's doing ballet! :-)
  2. Gosh yes, I remember! :-) Lots of helpful and knowledgeable people here, thank goodess. :-))
  3. Well that's positive. :-) If you can afford it, it sounds as if it would be worth auditioning for Elmhurst, if only for the experience.
  4. I think gymnastics can also develop muscles differently from ballet, e.g. The Quads. My dd does ISTD Modern actually as a contrast and relaxation from all the ballet, but when you see her dance you can see the classical influence. It looks lovely, particularly in the lyrical Modern pieces.
  5. You didn't cause offence. :-). It was just a reminder to all that some people prefer to keep their children's anonymity in what is, after all, a public forum.
  6. Difficult one; I've found from experience that sometimes teachers have opinions of schools based on slightly outdated information; for example remembering what a school looked for when the previous Director of Dance was there. I've always refrained from sending my dd to RBS auditions on the basis that she doesn't have a very short torso in comparison to her legs, but as far as I know, Elmhurst don't rule students out on the length of their limbs....? This might be an occasion where a second opinion may be useful, if you can get one. Is your dd an Associate?
  7. Mmm, that's interesting - bet there will be some unhappy Friends! I see they're allowing wheelchair users to book online - wonder if that applies to ALL Access members, or just permanent w/c users?
  8. We must have been typing at the same time, Kat09. :-)
  9. If I recall, Central offers A'Levels which are taken as twilight classes. These seem to be optional as the Central course is actually a degree course. Tring offers A Levels too.
  10. Indeed! Great to have you back! Xxx
  11. As I thought: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14308.aspx When your dd turns 18 there is also an 18+ student zip card. :-) If she is ineligible because you don't live in a London Borough, then she could have a 16-25 National Railcard and then apply the railcard to an Oyster card to get the discount: http://www.oyster-rail.org.uk/railcard-discounts/
  12. Oyster cards are valid from Chesham. :-). Kiwimum, your dd may be eligible for some sort of zip card as my nieces have them and they are a similar age to your dd. Tring is only 9 miles from Chesham; I used to live in Chesham. :-)
  13. Mmm, I was going to suggest the RAD. Interestingly dd's local dance school is going to start classes for boys; not sure when though. If you want me to try to find out, drop me a PM. :-)
  14. I think this is a project for a Fashion or Design student. It would help if they could spell and use "there" and "they're" correctly! :-)
  15. Hello New to dance, welcome to the forum. :-)
  16. That's great news Karen because Karen (how confusing!) is going to be making a tutu for my daughter! :-)
  17. Hmmm! Interesting concept! Black though? :-/
  18. Yes, it's fine Karen. :-)
  19. Good question! I will check. :-)
  20. It is of course entirely up to Angela if she wants to answer that question by Private Message (or indeed at all) but some posters may not like to specify which school their child attends. It's up to each member whether they choose to keep their child/ren's anonymity. Thanks. :-)
  21. Hi Megan and welcome to the forum. This thread might help: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/127-northern-ballet-school/
  22. There's already a thread here about Tring's Classical Ballet Academy: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/604-tring-classical-ballet-academy/ Hopefully it should be of some help but feel free to post questions in that thread. :-)
