  1. I really wish that Tring would sort out its marketing... It's a real bug-bear of mine that so many people think the dancers are all musical theatre just because there is a separate musical theatre course in the school. My eldest son was more jazz so he finished Tring in the commercial/ jazz set... Tho of course, he still studied ballet as the foundations of dance are strongly rooted there. My older dd and younger ds are classical and . While they do have a jazz class/ contemporary class... The rest of their dance training has been classical with some very strong teachers. When students are employed, they can complete a few modules with a university and obtain a BA Hons by converting their level6 diploma. The paperwork just came through for my ds this week. There are some very strong classical dancers in the classical sets. Dada funding is a problem now for so many people, especially if have multiple children training, so more may move across to degree funded courses
  2. What amazing and happy news. Have a read of the lovely article in this month's dancing times x
  3. It was a lovely day and a real joy to watch so many lovely young dancers ... We don't get to see them dance nearly enough! I loved it and it was well worth the drive up from Herts.... Though I will put glue on my lad's shoes next time so he doesn't fall over in his solo!!! Funny!!!
  4. Just found out in last week of RBS associates that they get 20% discount in opera house shop. Put it to test and it is true...if someone had told me sooner could have saved some money.
  5. Fab show! Versatile and talented dancers...a true vindication of all that is good about this school. Speaks for itself!!
  6. Like Shashee I couldn't sew ....I laughrd when it said make waist band as normal. Normal? I'd never made a skirt in my life. I was really proud of the finished article even though my gathers could have been more even!
  7. We'll hopefully meet at the parents' watching day next week Loulabelle...my littlest dd is in class 3 too.
  8. My daughter is one of the ones who is leaving Tring from year 11. She is going to ENBS. She had the offer of continuing her MDS but the school did allow her to audition elsewhere upon discussion of this with her ballet teacher. She has loved her time at Tring and would take her fabulous teacher with her if she could. She just wants to try something new, move to London and have a chance to gain some independence and grow up a little. Tring has a very protected and family feel to it that is a bit of a bubble. I'm glad though that three of her siblings will be able to enjoy what this special school has to offer. My eldest will finish his sixth form there and who knows what lies in store for the younger ones...but they are having a lovely time along the way.
  9. On the Eastleigh/London debate....I feel we can comment as we did 2 years at Eastleigh and 1 in London. There is not a great deal of difference between them as they follow the RBS associates programme ...altho' one or two exercises might be a bit different. I don't see any difference in the standard of the dancing in either centre. The teacher in Eastleigh is fab and my daughter also loves her London associate teacher. The Eastleigh JAs get the opportunity to audition for productions and are invited to company rehearsals like the London kids. The one thing I feel they miss out on are the historical dance opportunities that the London dancers get to perform at eg White Lodge Open day. More expensive a day out in London...the cafe is in situ at the Point...a purpose build dance building. I would thoroughly recommend taking the Eastleigh place and take things as they come. 3 of last years JAs went up to London this year because there was a change in family circumstances. Once u are in the system it seems easier to move about. Well done to your dd on the place and good luck for the future.
  10. No Balletjack she won't be doing Mids...she starts full time at Tring in Sept. A new adventure begins. The first formers have an induction day next Friday and she is SOOOOO excited! I'll miss my time around Covent Garden, that's for sure!
  11. Well done to all the yesses and well done to everyone who auditioned. My youngest dd has just 2 JA classes left in London then that part of her journey will be over for ever. Sad in many ways I can't believe how quickly the 3 years have gone so savour every moment ....
  12. Not only can I not recommend Freed highly enough it would seem, from my earlier post, that I cannot spell either !
  13. I cannot recomment Freed in Covent Garden highly enough...particularly a fitter named Sophie who spent an hour with my DD and highlighted whatt could well be causing an ongoing problem with her. She asked to see her again in the summer and made some excellent suggestions. We were only in to check if her current shoes were right so didn't buy anything. Fantastic service for anyone who favours Freed shoes.
  14. I was chuffed to bits to read of this good news. Well done to your DD xx
