  1. Loved watching this, you must be very proud Stirrups 36! NL
  2. Hello Dance is Life. Cna you be a little more specific on the area of Manchester need classes in? NL
  3. Thankfully no Regattah! It was buisness studies..
  4. Very hard with the distance, but sure he is in very good hands and will be fine. The forum is always a good support from virtual and actual friends for support. Horping he is on the mend...sure he will make that recital and shine! NL
  5. Going through all these emotions, as though one DD is in her 4th year at vocational school and the other in her thrid year, as a parent your journey does change. Younger DD has alway phoned every night for a jolly good chat, but this year she seems to have forgotten our phone number and eldest DD is barely communicating at all except for help with GCSE home work which takes place late in the evening and lasts for quite a considerable time, which is wearing me out!!!! At least she "phones home" now though. I am getting broody when I see babies and todlers which isnt good at I was recently 50! NL
  6. Michelle, I do hope that you set up your own blog as Dave Tries Ballet has done previously and I think you will have many followers, especially from this forum. Please do post a link. I personally have no idea how to set up a blog page, but I am sure that others here can 'pointe' you in the right direction. Keep us in the loop. NL edited as usual for typos.....
  7. Janet, you must have a go! You love watching the art form so much it would be lovely for you to expereince the joy of dancing its self. Take the plunge and let us know how you get on. NL
  8. Thank you for the replies, folks views and suggestions. Another possibility may be additional 'sub catergories' within doing dance. For example, 'lower school auditions', upper school auditions', 'questions about White Lode'. 'Adult dancer' or 'going back to dance'. By having a bit more organisation on the thread, it will be easier for people to find information? Don't know if this is possible, but worth considerating by the moderators?
  9. Wonderful news that back has recovered so well and will return to dance. Best wishes to him and his family.
  10. Hi Chelsea Bun, I am using my ticket, but why don't you post a question in 'Ticket Exchange' and see if any one has a ticket for sale? NL
  11. John, thank you for pondering! NL (Julie)
  12. Anyone off to the Genee in Glasgow this year? I have a ticket for the final, 4 hours on the train, but very excited. Meeting two ballet.coers there, mates from JA's in Manchester..now a 5 year long friendship.. Looking forward to it! NL
  13. Alison, I am referring to questions which arise each year on a regular basis. If there is the ability to mark these as 'sticky' it will be helpful to members accessing the forum to have answers to their questions quickly. I am intrigued by your comment ''judge by the sort of comment you post' remark. Not sure what your inference you are making? I clearly qualified my question by referencing 'commonly asked' questions. Why do you think as a moderator you have the right to judge my own questions???? NL
  14. A message and suggestion for the moderators. As we embark on a new term and new set of audition rounds many dancers and parents have questions....those which have been posted and answered in previous years. Is it possible to have a 'sticky board' for commonly asked questions which can be posted and fixed at the head of the doing dance section. Eg. What length of dance is needed for solos for year7, 'advice on preparation for lower school auditions' etc etc etc.... Don't know if this is possible on ballet.co, but on other similar forums its utilised. Best wishes nana
  15. Thanks for posting that LinMM. It reminds me of the day we went to Elmhurst with our 8 year old about to embark on her PVP journey. We had been invited to try on and buy the Elmhurst PVP'S (now Associates) uniform before starting the course. As we entered the school with our very young daughter sixth formers were greeting people. 'Year 7?' We were asked...no PVP'S was our reply. As we entered the reception young children were around with parents, suitcases, duvets and pillows....my first glimpse of children embarking on their boarding journey and I felt sick in my stomach for them. In my mind at the time I talked to myself....I would never let my 11 year old go to a boarding school and discussed this with our dance teacher later that day, thinking we may consider it at 14...... Well as we embarked on that JA and PVP journey, throw on a tour with BRB for our 9 year old and we did exactly that for both our daughters. Now with one in year 10 and another in year 9 we are starting to think about sixth form places. Both our daughters have loved and thrived boarding so far, but it's not been with out its ups and downs and bouts of homesickness at different times for varying reasons. Like other life experiences it's been, and continues to be a journey.....
  16. Hi Suzyszoo! Welcome to the forum. RBS You choose your date by venue for the WL auditions. You dont get to know if you have made finals until all the preliminary auditions have taken place, plus a week or so, and that time gap seems to vary each year. All that said there is a new artistic director as head of RBS so that may change this year. You will see from the website that all the preliminary auditions are within a few weeks of eachother. For Elmhurst you can request a specific audition date, unless the date is already full. In previous years you receive a letter a week to ten days or so after the audition to inform you if you have been successful to be invited to the finals. Preliminary auditions at Elmhurst are spread out over a few months. Hope this helps and best wishes to you DS on his journey! NL
  17. Hi! Sorry to hear this, but most children do get homesick at some point of their vocational journey and not always in the first year. Not a lot to add other than it's good he wanted to play with his 'home' friends, its important to keep in touch with them, the school holidays are so long and it keeps life in perspective. Hoping he gets over it soon. NL
  18. Thank you for sharing with us Arky. One of my DD's attended this amazing SS this year for the first time, had an amazing expereince and she and my elder DD will be applying for next year...it would be amazing if my DD was on the film...probably not, though that doesn't matter, I would have loved to see the gala, but already had tickets for the Genee, which has its final on the same night so am in Glasgow not London....best wishes for an amazing evening......
  19. Looking at current Principles and upcoming young dancers in UK Companies who would be your ideal couple and why?
  20. You are correct tutoo2much, that happened last year and the year before, however don't get too excited, the boarding houses this year for girls are bursting at the seams, so much so that year 10 girls are in the year 8/9 girls house....... NL
  21. In the past for Manchester JA's RBS write to your child's primary school, once you have accepted the place, presumably because of the time of school needed to attend Friday sessions during school time. There were some 'points or accreditation given to the school/child for RBS related activities. As Kiwimum says, enjoy every minute, these are precious times and present your children with wonderful opportunities and long lasting friendships for your DC's and you! NL
  22. I really enjoyed watching this video and found it enchanting to watch and very intersting to hear how the new syllabus has been created. Do watch it Ribbons and you will see that ADV 2 was demonstrated mainly by Elmhurst students. Anna Rose did both Allegros and the pointe work enchainemant (beautifully). The commentary on the Adv 2 variation tells how the inspiration for the choreography came from the music and the artistry of Eri Nishibara, an Elmhurst student who graduated this summer. Having watched her dance in Elmhurst shows, and competitions she truly deserves that accolade. edited for typos..must get that spell checker sorted....
  23. Thanks Regattah, didnt know the history, but Adv 1 is a big step from Intermediate, so two lessons a week rather than one will be very beneficial, especially as they miss out Advanced Foundation.
