I wouldn't say that at all. Of the current First Soloists Yuhui had the most prominent roles this season, including the leads in Alice and Requiem. The casting as Stephanie and Gamzatti "against type" can be seen as an opportunity to develop her dramatic skills.

From Bruce's live coverage of the press launch on Twitter we also know that the tour is to Moscow (Bolshoi) and that Johan Kobborg is choreographing the "Four Seasons" ballet in Verdi's Sicilian Vespers (opera co-production with Denmark directed by Herheim). This ballet will feature 4 RB and 4 RDB Principals and a corps of 32.

I'm afraid there were technical problems again with the tree at today's performance, though I was told by stage crew that it had worked fine during earlier tests. A case of stage fright?!? The show had to be stopped and the curtain closed while it was raised up. Melissa Hamilton was replaced as Rose Fairy by Claire Calvert.

I thought that the sections of the orchestra weren't always together in the Firebird at the Saturday matinée and there was one noticeable wrong horn entry. That said, the quality of music at RB performances is usually extremely high thanks to you and the ROH orchestra and we're very spoilt compared to other companies in that respect.

The only clapping from the wings I heard was after Claudia Dean's solo in Raymonda Act 3. It was her birthday and a debut which counts as extenuating circumstances for me

Melissa Hamilton was only replaced as one of the Firebird princesses; she danced the first solo in Raymonda Act 3 as listed. I'm not sure this solo suited her that well. Other debuts by Emma Maguire, Claire Calvert and Claudia Dean were more successful IMO. I really enjoyed Itziar, Bennet and Gary in The Firebird. The orchestra however seemed to have an off afternoon. In the Night didn't really grab me, I think mainly because of the less than stellar piano playing. Is it too intimate a piece for the main stage?

I can't remember who the original In the Night casts were but it's now: 22 Dec mat, 29 Dec mat, 4 Jan - Lamb / Bonelli, Nuñez / Pennefather, Cojocaru / Kobborg 29 Dec eve, 9 Jan, 11 Jan - Maguire / Campbell, Yanowsky / Kish, Marquez / Acosta At yesterday's Insight evening Emma Maguire rehearsed the 1st pdd with Tristan Dyer (Alex Campbell was at BRB performing in Cinderella). Also, Itziar Mendizabal was coached in The Firebird by Monica Mason who mentioned that Itziar has danced the role many times with Leipzig Ballet.

The lead couples in La Valse were Hikaru Kobayashi / Ryochi Hirano, Sam Raine / Joey Stepanek and Helen Crawford / Brian Maloney. I thought the stage was much more brightly lit than usual which made the piece less atmospheric but easier to see the dancers.
