  2. Hello Esme, I've moved your topic into the Doing Dance forum where our members are more likely to chip in.
  3. Taxi, I am obsessed by the parent and child spaces at our local supermarket. If someone is parking or leaving in my sight I always check to see if they have got children with them. Most of the time they haven't. One of these days I am going to ask Customer Services what the criteria are for parking in those spaces!! Going back to dogs, I worry when I see dogs on expander leads because the owners have no control over them whatsoever. I have nearly been tripped up on one occasion by dog going one way and owner the other around me! Also several dogs have run at my Chunkydog in a not very friendly way and the owners cannot yank them back in time. And then again, you have the owners who let them have the full length of the expander while walking along busy roads.... Yes they can be very useful but they are also downright dangerous!
  4. They sound delicious! Does dried fruit make you hungry too? I love dried apricots.
  5. Review – Nicholas Le Riche’s Farewell Performance, Paris: Roslyn Sulcas, NY Times This will be included in tomorrow's links but it is quite acceptable to post a link to the review in the relevant thread before the links are posted. Although I have included the link as it will appear tomorrow (pasted in from a word document) it is so easy just to copy the relevant URL and paste it in your post. Remember to press enter at the end of the URL after you have pasted it in so it is "blued" and can just be clicked on when people want to read it. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
  6. What absolutely fantastic news for your MD MeadowBlythe. I know it will be a wrench but Wells is a gorgeous city and not very far from Bath and loads of other places to explore in the area. Wells Cathedral is one of my favourites. I'm afraid I'm out of date with coffee shop recommendations.
  7. Some very weird people around in the world Taxi! Just been down to the Marina for our morning amble and hundreds of children are taking advantage of the public unions' strike to enjoy the facilities down there.
  8. True, but snarly dogs usually still snarl after they have been picked up. Also thinking about the "on heat" situation, usually dogs can sense this and appear from all over the place. No-one was sniffing around this dog.

  10. We were just taking my small Jack Russell, Chunkydog for a walk before Emmerdale. We were at the Marina and she was off the lead pottering (well she will be 13 in September). Anoother lady with a Jack Russell about the same size was walking towards us with her dog on a lead. When she saw us she immediately picked her dog up until she had walked past us! Chunkydog didn't even look at her dog!
  11. Hello ReluctantBallerina and welcome to the Forum. Do let us know how you get on.
  12. We have some hair stuff in our house that I keep in a biscuit tin that has one of those plasticy holders for the biscuits. I just rinsed that to get the crumbs out.
  13. Dance Consortium Presents Grupo Corpo Full UK tour details: www.danceconsortium.com Brazil’s internationally acclaimed dance company Grupo Corpo returns for a UK-wide Dance Consortium tour which begins at London’s Sadler’s Wells on 1 October and concludes at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre on 5 November. With a history stretching back nearly 40 years, Grupo Corpo’s dancers combine the precision of classical ballet with the sensuality and passion of Latin dance rhythms. Grupo Corpo translates as Group Body, reflecting the movement style of the dancers, who co-ordinate to fill the stage with unmatched energy and excitement. This Autumn, each venue on the tour presents two works out of a selection of three pieces choreographed by Rodrigo Pederneiras. Triz is the Brazilian term for the moment just before a catastrophe. The abstract dance, which was created in 2013, is performed in striking black and white costumes and sees dancers’ bodies vertically split like inanimate objects. A UK Premiere, Triz is a visually stunning dance experience. Parabelo is inspired by life in rural Brazil. The piece was created in 1997 and features choreography full of hip swaying and feet stamping, with the dancers sweeping across the stage and moving rhythmically from group to solo and back again. It features moments of utter peace and stillness and others of raucous Brazilian carnival. Sem Mim is beautifully melancholic and is set to a 13th century Portuguese song cycle. It focuses on a group of villagers who wait anxiously on shore for the return of their fishermen. Dressed in intricately patterned bodysuits, the dancers move as waves; the ebb and flow of their bodies mimicking the calm and fury of the sea. An enormous shimmering net hangs over the stage, at times trapping the dancers in its folds. Founded in 1975 by Artistic Director Paolo Pederneiras, choreographer Rodrigo Pederneiras and Technical Director Pedro Pederneiras, Grupo Corpo has attracted praise from both critics and audiences for reinventing classical ballet as an exuberant and rhythmic dance form. The company has created 35 choreographies and given more than 2,200 performances to date. Grupo Corpo maintains ten ballets in its repertoire and gives 70 performances a year around the world, touring to countries including Iceland, South Korea, the United States, Lebanon, Italy, Singapore, the Netherlands, Israel, France, Japan, Canada, Mexico and the UK. Following performances at Sadler’s Wells, Grupo Corpo tours to Southampton, Cardiff, Salford, Plymouth, Bradford, Birmingham, Belfast and Edinburgh. Dance Consortium is a group of 17 large scale venues located across the UK, supported by the Arts Council England. Since its formation in 2000 Dance Consortium has presented 34 tours by 22 different companies from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, France, The Netherlands, Taiwan, Israel and the USA. Their performances and education activities have been experienced by hundreds of thousands of people across all parts of the UK. “The uncomplicated exuberance of the super-able company is a pleasure, even a wonder to behold… The dancers seem to fizz with heat and light”. 16. English National Ballet commission Cameron McMillan to create new work for Big Dance English National Ballet has commissioned award-winning choreographer, Cameron McMillan to create a new work for Big Dance in West London. The piece, Kinetic Echo – Our Dancing Selves, explores questions of online identity and self expression and will be performed at Westfield London (W12) on Saturday 12 July performed by dancers of ENBYouthCo. Shoppers will become the audience for the performance amongst the busy surroundings of the shopping centre. Cameron McMillan said: ‘I am interested in asking questions about how we receive and engage with dance and art in the digital age, in particular social media and how that impacts on the identity of a young emerging dance artist. The internet and social media is now a primary source of communication, and for many a place to express themselves, but what happens to the artists and actual works of art through this spider web and highly filtered form of dissemination? Is it a fight to actually be heard within the constant stream, and are you being heard in the way you would like?’ English National Ballet is the West London Hub for Big Dance and the performance is part of the festival’s Big Dance Weekender (12-13 July) in which five areas of London as well as regions across the UK will see an accessible, original piece of dance performed in a public space. Alongside the live performance, an online digital initiative will offer a way for audiences to engage with the themes of the choreography and gain an insight into the rehearsal process for this new work. English National Ballet will provide an assortment of stimulating and thought-provoking images and videos as well as encourage responses to the work via social media using #hashtag: #ENBMyEcho. We are also launching #ENBDancingSelf - the ultimate selfie challenge encouraging everyone to share their most creative dancing selfie. Perhaps in the park, on the bus, in a studio or in somewhere more unusual! www.ballet.org.uk/echo Big Dance launched on 2 July in an event which saw students from English National Ballet School join other dancers as well as Mayor of London, Boris Johnson and prima ballerina Darcey Bussell at City Hall, London. Ends Kinetic Echo – Our Dancing Selves Saturday 12 July, 14:00 and 17:00 North Atrium at Westfield London, W12 Choreography: Cameron McMillan Music: Hauschka Dancers Styling: Istituto Marangoni graduate Guy Gruper Co-commissioned by English National Ballet and the Foundation for Community Dance for the Big Dance Weekend 2014 and Westfield Presents. Big Dance Launch Wednesday 2 July, 14.00 City Hall, SE1 2AA Big Dance Big Dance is a biannual, national festival of dance, happening in 2014 from 5-13 July www.bigdance.org.uk ENBYouthCo ENBYouthCo is English National Ballet’s youth dance company and launched in April 2012. Dancers train in both ballet and contemporary dance technique whilst learning about the classical company repertoire. Cameron McMillan Biography Cameron McMillan is an award winning dancer and choreographer, based in London and described by the UK Observer as one of ‘the most compelling and intelligent dancers on the world stage’. Born and raised in New Zealand and classically trained at The Australian Ballet School, he has danced as a leading dancer in companies such as Rambert Dance Company, English National Ballet, The Royal New Zealand Ballet, Bonachela Dance Company, and Sydney Dance Company. He currently works as an independent choreographer, dance artist, and rehearsal director. With an international performance and creative career spanning large scale classical ballet to independent contemporary dance, film and fashion, Cameron is a highly versatile dance maker with a physically complex, musical and emotionally resonant creative voice. His work actively draws from and challenges his background and breadth of experience, striving for new territory, and is as diverse as the companies that commission him. He has been an Associate Artist with the UK's DanceEast from 2010-14, and in 2012 he was the first dance artist to be awarded the New Generation Artist Award by The New Zealand Arts Foundation. Regularly commissioned, he has created work for The Royal Ballet of Flanders, Channel 4 Random Acts, Brisbane Festival (Queensland Ballet, Expressions Dance Company, and Dance North), Aldeburgh Music Festival, The Royal New Zealand Ballet, Rambert Dance Company, Milwaukee Ballet, Transitions Dance Company, ROH2, DanceEast, and Hungary's Ballet Pécs as part of the European Capital of Culture 2010 and has been exhibited in the Lange Nacht der Museen Art Festival, Austria. 17. TheWineLake has posted some comments on the RBS Summer Show here
  18. I think, as I have probably said before, with Carlos Acosta it is his name. He has appeared at The Lowry twice (as part of the Manchester International Festival) with mixed programmes that would not normally sell and has sold out 3 performances both times. We do not know what other backing that the Russian Seasons people have that may make a loss worth the kudos of appearing at such an emminent venue in central London.
  19. Thanks for your comments on the performance TWL. I've put a link to this thread on the Doing Dance topic on School Summer Shows.
