Bolshoi promotions

Recommended Posts

Yes. I was under the impression that he was already a Principal. He certainly danced like one when I saw him in Bolshoi's Spartacus at the ROH in 2019. Tissi I wasn't quite so impressed by but I saw him not with the Bolshoi but as a last-minute substitute in the RB's R&J, so probably the circumstances didn't help his performance (which was fine technically).

But he left the Bolshoi for a while, didn't he?  I imagine there was a falling out...

was that for a year or less?   At Hungarian National Ballet

No not  a falling out.   I read online interview that said a better contract and chance to perform Mayerling .. a dream role for him.

More promotions

David Motta Soares to Leading Soloist

Eva Sergeyenkova to First Soloist. Extraordinary - she only joined the company from the Moscow Academy (the Bolshoi school) in 2021.

Eva’s debut in Swan Lake earlier this week seems to have been exceptional

David MS’s promotion is well deserved.   I saw his very good Basilio debut in Don Q with Krysanova on the Bolshoi summer tour to London in 2019.

Thanks for the video, FionaE. Igor is brilliant- his performance in the Marco Spada DVD as the Count is hilarious. Such a versatile dancer!

I'm over the moon about this young lady from what I've seen on video, Annamk. Could you or anyone else please tell me where the announcement of her promotion to First Soloist was published ?

This link was posted elsewhere, but I can't access it.

Judging from the videos posted of Swan Lake, I think it is so wrong to promote Eva Sergyenkova so early, so weak in technique and weak feet, tilted pelvis, no coordination and not beautiful port de bras. I won’t pay to see this level of dancer in the leads. What on earth is Vasiev thinking!

I think every dancer at Royal Ballet (even in the lowest ranks) have much better technique.

I'm not competent to comment on technique, except to say that her feet had me in a constant state of anxiety during passages heavy on pointe work.

I'm more confident in saying that her interpretation needs work. It's not her fault, and possibly as well as having the handicap of extreme youth she was under-rehearsed, but that was the most boring White Swan pdd I can recall seeing. (Grim determination got me to the end.)
