Pups_mum
I'm hoping some of the dancers/parents of dancers with "tricky" feet might be able to help me here. My youngest child isn't a dancer but he does a lot of various sports and he has recently started having a lot of trouble with pain in his feet. I took him to see a very reputable physio this week and she pointed out various features of his feet that I am now kicking myself for having failed to notice before. Amongst the various pieces if advice that she gave us is that he needs narrower fitting shoes than most of the ones he is currently wearing. Easy enough for school shoes, but I'm struggling to find any sports shoes that come in different widths. Specifically I need some AstroTurf friendly shoes for hockey. Anyone got any suggestions? I guess that failing a brand that does specific width fittings, any advice on brands that tend to be on the narrow side would be better than nothing. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. trog
I know that Nike do narrow shoes but I don't know if they are available in the UK
sarahw
Can't help with astro I'm afraid. With trainers both Nike and Adidas do the part 'mesh' trainers where you can see them narrowing at the instep.
Legseleven
Surely the major manufacturers at the least make trainers in different widths/for different foot shapes? We have found that DD is fine with most trainers (especially Asics - I think - with their specifications as to which shoes are made for high insteps) as long as they can be laced up tightly. You've made me curious now. I may find myself doing some Googling.
Vonrothbart
Adidas used to be ridiculously narrow, so much so I couldn't wear their shoes / trainers, and they were supplied for free. I'd like to think they have started making shoes for everyone, but not sure. New Balance were just the opposite, nice and wide with room for a high instep, perfect for me. Pixiewoo
My son has wide feet, and can't wear adidas or anything other than Nike. I have wide feet and find New Balance best for me! I WISH sports shoes came in width fittings!
Pups_mum
Thanks all. Looks like adidas might be the way to go, and they do make a junior hockey shoe. I'll have to see if I can find somewhere where he can try a pair on - might need a trip to a specialist shop as our local sports shops tend not to carry a lot of hockey stuff. I don't imagine he will complain about that mind you, though my wallet might!
Picturesinthefirelight
Ds has very narrow feet. He wears Nike trainers & Astros (uses normal Astros for hockey rather than hockey shoes which as a goalie he prefers). Most other brands are too wide. Dd has very wide feet & Sketchers fit her best. New Balance are supposed to be good too.
Moomin
We find asics good and you can remove the insole and replace with an orthotic or just a thicker insole.
