  1. I'm facing being outsourced myself at the moment (or sold to the lowest bidder, if you prefer) and know from past experience it almost never works out well for those being outsourced, and frankly, rarely that well for the original company either. Though there must be cases where it has....? The only initial benefactors seem to the the outsource company landing a nice fat contract, and the person selling us out getting a nice fat bonus for initially seeming to be saving a bit of cash.
  2. there has been - with the protesters being arrested and/or prevented from protesting
  3. Yes, that part in South Pacific was meant to be challenging at the time of its release - nowadays we largely can't see what the fuss was - though sadly, this sort of thinking not completely eliminated from the world. Despite that, I still love South Pacific, Dames and all!!
  4. I doubt that would ever be allowed, by the owners of the pieces. Perhaps in the more distant future (probably long after I'm no longer for this world) there may be reworked pieces 'after' MacMillan/Scarlett as we have for Petipa works in the rep today - maybe? Such that the pdds preserved, in a reworked scenario? But I doubt anyone would dare (certainly not at the moment)
  5. I'm not advocating any change - i was just saying what I liked, and didn't like, about what I saw last night. I'm finding that a lot about MacMillan's works generally. There are some I simply won't watch again, others I would happily watch every week.
  6. Yes, the Francesca Hayward/Federico Bonelli pdd's were glorious; from the meeting pdd in the town square, to the bedroom pdd (the one done at galas) right through to the death one in the swamp - chin-on-chest as the jaw dropped. Claire Calvert and Alexander Campbell were also excellent as Lescaut and his mistress. The one in the swamp though - no wonder she dies the way she gets flung about - I'm sure any medics here on the forum will correct me if I'm wrong, but generally speaking someone who is close to death's door is rarely made better by being flung around in a swamp... Have to say though, that I agree with 'Indigo' above with some of her comments. The general sleaziness of the whole scenario - from the rich taking their delights at the cost of the poor, ladies of the night selling their souls for a few coppers, the goings on in the goal once they arrive at their deportation 'home', creeps me out a bit. And that's before coming on to the pdt with M GM, Manon, and her brother or the 'passing around' of Manon as an objectified trophy. I appreciate that's the point, of love bursting above this level of sleaze and the temptation of wealth, but makes the scenes between those beautiful, glorious pdd's all the harder to watch at times. Glad I was there though, there was some truly wonderful dancing.
  7. yes, the 'lead' page doesn't show if a performance is sold out, you have to cick through to the next level, before it shows that. And then when there are tickets, you click again, and end up back at the old booking layout. Seems like newness for the sake of it, and hasn't improved anything at all in my view
  8. perhaps proximity to the Nags Head not such a good idea after all!
  9. this would make much more sense if ALL the viola players were deafened by the brass section. So can we look forward to having the brass section out in Floral St? At least they won't have far to go to get to the Nag's Head...
  10. I was just editing to correct my days - I'm on a day off and completely lost what day of the week it is! (senior moment or what!)
  11. yes, the photos from Tuesday's pre-general rehearsal. The cast at today's (wednesday's)Friends rehearsal was Hamilton and Kish I believe
  12. Foteini Christofilopoulou was at the dress rehearsal for the Royal Ballet's run of Manon (opens March 29th, through to midMay, 2018). 13. and no one can say a donkey was shot quite like Sylvie Guillem! :-)

  15. I did very much enjoy the performance last night - Fumi Kaneko so poised and elegant as Hermione, and Akane Takada so exuberant as Perdita in act 2. Class will out, and all that!
  16. I was at their rehearsal when Erico Montes and Celisa Diuana (along with cellist Naomi McLean) were putting the final touches to a small project they were doing, 'Thoughts on Spring' (and also as they filmed it initially). It was a privilege and an utter pleasure to see them work, and the piece they produced is elegant and charming. And its always great to see Celisa dancing! 17. Think they add a small handful in specific spots, so they know which to take off again in the interval
  18. Ah yes, good point. I do have the advantage of working in London, so can stroll to ROH once the days toil completed, and it’s only 70-80 mins home afterwards. Living in London has to have SOME compensation for the hell on Earth that commuting by Southern Rail provides
  19. Part of the joy of them, is the mixed nature. Sometimes you get a duff piece (or if 2, you hope the good on one first so you can slip away early), but its usually not on for too long, so the pain not eternal. Usually tickets cheaper too, and you get to see a shed load more of the lead dancers, so I always go to as many as I can. :-)
  20. noooooo! Love Nutcracker! Music fab, and there is some iconic dancing in it. I get swept up in it every year, I can't deny! :-)
