  1. Attended the relay of the performance last night from the ROH at the high end Curzon Cinema Goodman Fields London Aldgate E1 Only 19 people in attendance in a 60 or seat cinema , there were 22 people at the recent triple bill a few weeks ago , I would have thought that Swan Lake would have attracted a lot more ballet lovers. No gripe with regards to the performance , but I do think it is not conducive to have food served to attendees sat in their seat watching a ballet !!! eg, cheese pizza , nachos with cheese, salad bowls , pop corn etc It spoils the atmosphere of the evening.
  2. I sat in the stalls Row B for Manon a few weeks back and unfortunately had a tall couple ( both about 6ft 1 inches tall) sat right in front of me , they were in Row A ( the front row) which limited my view of the stage and the dancers. The rake in the stalls near the stage is not particularly good and you can find yourself having to move keep moving your position in your seat to see the action on the stage, which in turn can be annoying for the people behind you. Now I understand why Row A always seems to sell out very quickly when booking opens.
  3. Its some time now since Queen Elizabeth the Second passed away, yet her monogram still adorns the curtain at the ROH I have asked numerous staff at the ROH as to why the monogram of the new King does not now adorn the curtain. Amongst the replies I have been given is that King Charles wants the previous Queens monogram to remain in her honour / the cost of changing it prohibits the change / the Queen loved attending performances at CG so it would be left as is in her honour. Can anyone please advise why no change to the monogram has taken place / Thank You
  4. Same here , the page says I have reached my limit !!!!! but I have not managed to book any tickets . Then a charge of GBP1,330.00 in my basket which later disappeared. Could not get access to pick a seat , problem with the system message appearing regularly , two hours later only a few meager tickets left , but all the GBP250.00 tickets and 99% of all the tickets sold !!!
  5. Thank you Sim for your insight into curtain calls / It was an memorable performance by both N Osipova and R Clarke / I was actually sat two seats away from Recces mother who was in the audience , she was exceedingly proud of her son Regards David
  6. Thank you for that info Sim , much appreciated. However I took a vid clip of the curtain calls when W Bracewell and Y Naghdi made their debuts a few weeks back in Manon , and both dancers came at the curtain call together , yes after they took their bows together they appeared separately in front of the curtain however initially came out together, I suppose curtain calls / curtain etiquette may differ with dancers / performances. Regards David
  7. Matinee Manon Saturday 3rd February 2023. When the curtain calls were taking place at the end of the Saturdays afternoon performance of Manon with N Osipova and R Clarke./ After A Campbell took his curtain call normally the two lead principles would be expected to appear together to receive the adulation of the audience However R Clarke came out on his own !!!!!!! then N Osipova came out on her own to receive the adulation of the audience N Osipova then beckoned both A Campbell and R Clarke onto the stage for all three to take their bows . II have never saw this before when the male lead comes out first , then the female lead comes out on her own , Can anyone please advise as to the reason for this curtain call etiquette ?
  8. I am always surprised that so many dancers ( ranging from Artists to Soloists) when exiting the building go un noticed by people waiting at the stage door. A few weeks ago at the matinee dress rehearsal for DQ featuring Yasmin N and Mathew B , whilst waiting at the stage door I witnessed only one person ask Yasmin / Mathew for their autographs/ selfie. Even Carlos A was only approached by a solitary admirer. Kevin O Hare , Monica Mason can walk out the stage door with no one talking to him / giving their best wishes It appears that most people ( but not all ) just want autographs / selfies of the principals that have just danced that evening. Please correct me if I am wrong: > )
  9. My first post on here for many a year but I felt had to comment on Don Q this evening, the audience reaction. As soon as Marianela Núñez and Vadim Muntagiriv made their seperate entrances on stage the whole of the ROH audience erupted with clapping , cheering , whistling , with wild abandon , I have never heard such a loud welcome for any dancers entrances ever in 40 years of attending performaces of the RB. it was deafining. Plus throughout the whole show the applause was thunderous after any dancing by Marianela and Vadim. A friend I took to the ballet for the first time commentated , wow it was like being at a football march , the level of clapping , cheering / whistling was sooooo intense I am still on cloud 9 after seeing tonites performance. It was magical and a night to remember.
  10. Hello All, I am writing this from the sunny shores of Ft Lauderale Fl , How I miss being able to attend performances of my beloved Royal Ballet. I have been awaiing these perfomances of Giselle for months and via this great site finally I get to read such glowing reviews of the many pairings , especially Friday and Saturday performaces .How I would have loved to have been in attandance. I so agree that the RB seems to be awash with brillaint talent at the moment, and long may it last. One question please , with all the various principal pairings , does the coaching lie wih eg L Collier , J Cope or is the coaching for each pairing taken by various coaches ? I do realise that Monica Mason will do some of the coaching for for Myrtha / Bathide but I am intereseted in he coaching of the two main characters Thank you / David
  11. Hello A general question When Akane and Campbell danced previous in the last week or so , they were with partners who they had trained with for months. How does this type of change of partner affect a performance , if at all due to limited reharsal time. I wish both dancers all the best for tonite > ) Regards David
  12. Hello All : > ) As an avid ballet lover (situated in Florida) I read all these post with avid enthusiasm. I absolutely adore the Royal Ballet Company and have been attending performances at the ROH from the late 1970 till about 2010 I agree on the comment made above , The Company has never looked that good and is so very exciting to watch. It is such an exciting time at the ROH , and take it from me , a bad performance by the RB company is still miles higher than some of the local companies I have witnessed here in the USA ( with no disrespect to the local ballet companies i have saw ) Keep writing these reviews of performances seen, they are all read by me Did anyone see Nicol Endmunds performace a few days ago B S Brunell? Happy New Year David ith
