  1. I've just seen that Masters of Ballet has a 3 day course for 14 yr old + (London, Acton area).
  2. We didn't drive. We took the bus. There was hardly any parking (from memory) unless there's a car park nearby that I didn't see. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
  3. Thanks for the encouragement. She emerged with her group after the first audition and my immediate reaction was "wow, you are so tall compared to them" I make her sound like a giant, she really is not that tall by normal standards Anyway, she got selected to stay for the second audition so now it's the wait until November 5th for the finals call back. She did love the experience, as so many other people have said.
  4. Hi everyone, I was just looking through old threads on LCB ahead of the audition tomorrow. I kept seeing the issue of 'height' crop up. Do we think that with this year's production being Snow White, they will prefer the you get children to be shorter, rather than taller? My daughter is auditioning with the youngest group (she will be 9 just in time for the Jan 1st cut off date) but I know that she'll be somewhere in the top 15% height wise for her cohort. Luckily her only goal tomorrow is to get through to tomorrow's call-back so I don't think there will be a huge disappointment with the end result.
  5. Would you mind telling us if she got a place this year?
  6. We also got a wait list place for London. My DD is 8. The letter said that all wait listed kids get the online programme. Wondering what everyone's thoughts about doing the online programme are?
  7. Oh sorry got too excited and didn't realise my DD has her own ballet show that afternoon. Sorry about that!
  8. There were SO many children trying out in London! I couldn't believe it!
  9. Two Degas leotards for sale in great condition, £25 each + postage: - Navy blue, 9501 Meryl - Purple, 9502 Meryl Will try to upload photos.
  10. We will be in Paris during the spring break and my daughter would like some Eiffel Tower ballet photos taken. I was wondering if anyone might know of a photographer willing to do a short (1 hour max) shoot for this? Thank you!
  11. I ended up choosing London 32 weeks as first option and London 26 weeks for second option ... It doesn't let you proceed without choosing a second option and we are not traveling outside of London, which is where we live.
  12. I was wondering if anyone is currently completing the JA application online. It looks like you have to select a second choice associate centre (online sessions are NOT a choice for second choice). We can only get to one centre so not sure how to handle this. Also what is the difference between London 26 weeks and 32 weeks. Is it just the length of the program or is there anything further that differentiates the two? Thanks!
  13. I was wondering if some of the more experienced parents have a point of view on ballet physio classes for the 8 - 10 year old range (the JA range). I see on Instagram that these are very popular even with younger students. Would this really give a young, classical dancer an edge? Is it just clever marketing? Is it too much too soon?
  14. We're in London. I noticed that they have 4 audition dates for London, presumably to deal with the higher demand / number of applications. Auditions are not until June so still a long way to go.
  15. It was heart breaking. As a former figure skater, I can see that her talent and technique are exceptional. Drugs don't make you that good. Maybe they can help you train harder or have a marginal benefit, but she is truly exceptional (I have watched her skate before the Olympics) and it is so sad that she has been so badly failed by everyone around her to end up in this situation. I also think that a lot of the media coverage is focused on many aspects but the importance of mental health and damaging practices at an individual level. Lots of people must be held accountable.
  16. My DD (also 😎 will also try out for JA's and luckily I have a friend who was a ballerina who was able to 'translate' all of these requirements for me. In their totality people seem to refer to them as 'facility' for ballet. Nobody ticks all the boxes apparently. The one that gets me is 'turn out.' Anatomically I understand what this means. However, unlike a high instep or long legs, I am obviously not able (visually), nor qualified, at all to appraise my DD's turn out. And if I understand correctly that is the real dead end. On the 'nice to have' list, I also heard that hyper extended knees are desirable. PS: no idea how that emoji got in there, it was meant to say 8 yrs old.
  17. My DDs go to a dance school in London. They hired a professional theatre for their Christmas show. They have a stock of costumes that they use for all performances (they don't hire or buy new ones). The only charge was the cost of the ticket £35 per person. For Central London, I think that is ok. The older students danced in 4-5 dances and the younger ones had 3 mins of stage. I thought everything was done well and within reason.
  18. Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a London based photographer for an audition shoot. Thank you!
  19. Hi everyone. I was trying to understand if the children auditioning for JA's are doing so per year group (eg, the Year 3's compete with other Year 3's) or if it is done across all year groups (Year 3's to Year 5's all pooled together)? Does anyone know? Thank you.
  20. Would anyone also be able to shed some light as to why these are so popular for audition / audition photos too? My DD is applying for JA's and she has 2 Degas leotards but she doesn't like how low cut they are at the chest (I agree with her). Almost every JA photo I have seen on Instagram is in a Degas leotard. Maybe she can wear one for the photos but I don't want her to be in a leotard that she hates for the actual audition. What would be another good choice? (Sorry for hijacking the thread).
