  1. Mine was in the uniform she wears 99% of the time (if not wearing a leotard) - sports leggings, trainers, hoodie!
  2. All good points and this is far from easy. It's hard to separate the personal hurt/anger (this is my hard-earned money she's smoking away, this is a brilliant opportunity she's putting at risk, she has lied to me about this etc) from the ultimate aim (she wants to be a dancer and is doing very well; meanwhile she's trying something most teenagers try, this is part of the individuation process etc). I guess one significant question is: what would happen if she was forced to quit and come home? It may be that smoking would be the least of your worries then. Final thought: let the dust settle for a few days. (Please be aware that these opinions are very much offered in a spirit of trying to help (we all have these worries about our children, I'm sure, and don't know how we'd react until it happens), not tell you what to do - just another perspective.
  3. She's a young woman making her own decisions. Her reports have been glowing. I think as parents we gradually have to accept that our children have the right to make their own decisions and our role is to support them, not micro-manage them.
  4. They said 'in a few weeks' when we visited, which doesn't narrow it down much obviously! Grey leotards instead of burgundy.
  5. Go to the News & Events tab on their website, scroll down and click 'Show more' - that's where the link is hidden.
  6. Have a look at the NBS thread - there are some very helpful people with children either in the school now or who have been recently and they may be able to give you a feel for the place.
  7. Thank you very much, it was. We're not long back. Really glad we did it and were able to see everything in the flesh for the first time. My daughter is even more excited to go now! I know others on the forum have their own visits planned so I don't want to just post a list of what I learnt in case you want to ask for yourselves - but I'm happy to do so if it would be useful? I did ask a few questions.
  8. Elmhurst is reasonably close to us and my daughter has done quite a few intensives there and I've been really impressed by their approach to things like nutrition, strength & conditioning etc - quite forward-thinking. Great facilities, respected teachers and of course the close link to BRB.
  9. That's good - we're off up there this Weds. If we find anything useful out - eg uniform - I'll let you know. We had our DaDa offer a little while ago. It wouldn't hurt just to check in with them - we found twice that emails hadn't made it...
  10. I don't mind at all! We're doing Weds 5 May and having a quick look at New Medlock that day too. Probably have a bit of a potter round the area and get a feel for it as well. Another of those 'blimey, this is really happening' days I think.
  11. Right, we're booked in for a look round both NBS and New Medlock! Keep ticking these jobs off the list...
  12. Thanks for this. My daughter (admittedly under my influence...) has managed to avoid all social media so far in her life so isn't on Instagram (yet) but if that's the way to go, she may join. I think she's going to sign up to WhatsApp at some point, so maybe others would be willing to have a group on there too in due course?
  13. Thanks very much - major relief. Hadn't quite allowed myself to consider how it would even have been possible with no offer. Only got ours just before c.o.p. today so I expect more will be coming - fingers crossed for you too.
  14. Got a DaDa offer late this afternoon, thank goodness. As long as it stays at the figure it suggests, we might be able to avoid remortgaging... Thank goodness. Hope others get something too.
  15. On the website. I was just reading the website for the hundredth time and suddenly there it was! We did email to ask if the tours were suitable for us and they are - they're designed for people in our position as well as those interested in coming in the future. NB We also asked when we'd hear about Dada - they couldn't say - sounded like they're waiting to hear back from Dada.
  16. No, not been to see. We noticed that NBS are doing tours of the school over the next couple of months and as we've never been there, we might go. It would make sense to look at the accommodation at the same time I guess.
  17. Having said that... it is really hard when you don't know if you're first on the wait list or 200th! I think my daughter would just like to know if she was close. Mind you, having looked at the price of accommodation for Central this morning and it being about twice as much as for Northern, I confess to feeling just a little bit relieved.
  18. We got the waiting list email from Central today but probably not going to wait. I think we're pretty psyched up for Northern now, so that - finally - is that.
  19. Yes, that about sums it up! We still look at her offer (printed out, stuck up in her room) occasionally in disbelief.
  20. We have got our room booked: Block B - Floor 7. As others have said, Eszter has been very helpful (even if it does take a day or two to reply) and seems to certainly have the students' wellbeing at heart. She has told me this flat of 4 rooms will all be NBS students - just one more room to fill. The other two so far are first-years (not sure of ages though). Seeing as you two guys on this thread are in different blocks, it does at least seem like there will be quite a lot of NBS students in Medlock.
  21. We use Dancique, who are excellent. They did have some shipping issues earlier in the year like everyone else but have got us some RP shoes in now.
  22. We asked if there was any chance of hearing sooner as we had to make a decision on an offer from elsewhere but they very firmly said no and we had to wait until 2 April. They do seem a bit out of time with the other schools and I don't know what they expect students to do if they have to respond to offers (as we have) before 2 April, let alone 17/18 April.
