  1. Tonight (26.03.23) Paris has une nouvelle Étoile in the sky. Bluenn Battistoni was promoted on stage at the Palais Garnier at the end of this evening’s La Fille Mal Gardée. A standing ovation of many minutes was given by an appreciative audience. On the way out I overheard an audience member say “I don’t know who he [Colas] was but he should have been promoted too. He was referring to RB principal Marcelino Sambé! who danced his socks off in his second guest appearance here.

  3. “The timeless love story of a bloke and his bird” that just about sums it up 🙂
  4. Which means that, for the time being at least, the performance is sold out to them.
  5. I don’t know why this is such a difficult topic to clarify. If a seat hasn’t been sold it has to show as available to purchase in the listing. e.g. 4 MAY 2024 SATURDAY, 7PM MAIN STAGE GUIDANCE: Content suitable for all. We cannot admit children under the age of 5. Conducted by Martin Georgiev CAST Fumi Kaneko, Vadim Muntagirov £35 LAST FEW REMAINING Buy tickets To not do so would be to provide incorrect information. However, NOT all available seats can be purchased by everyone as some may be held back for the time being, for want of a better description, for special interest groups e.g. YROH, Access, RBS and who knows who else. This is why when we click on ‘Buy tickets’ we get: “Please sign in before choosing your seats in order to access prices available to you. To register for wheelchair spaces, please contact box office. How would you like to find your seats? Use our seatmap It would be MUCH clearer if the message said « … in order to access THE SEATS and prices available to you … » If, after clicking on “use our seatmap”, whether I am logged in or not, the seat map shows no availability, it means that the ‘available’ seats are NOT available for ME to purchase at the present time. However, they ARE available for purchase by the special interest groups for which they have been set aside. They WILL show up as visible on the seating plan if someone logs in who belongs to one of these special interest groups. It’s a frustrating system at the best of times but once one understands how and why it is set up in such a way it does sort of make sense. NB when tickets go on general sale on Wednesday (thanks @LinMM) every seating plan will include lots of seats which are reserved for sale to special interest groups. They will not be identifiable. Only in instances when all tickets available to you and me are sold but some reserved for special interest groups remain unsold will the anomaly in availability be ‘visible’.
  6. My apologies I’m already in Tuesday even though it’s still only Monday. I’ve edited my last post
  7. Comparable how? Different companies, different cities, different business models, different business constraints…. The price of hotel rooms in London won’t be affected by Paris, Munich and the Met announcing their seasons ahead of the ROH. Easter is early this year, the ROH looks set to announce 2 weeks later than last year. Even though I want to plan ahead, I can live with that. NB. It would be nice to be proved wrong but I suspect that as soon as the season is announced major disappointment will be expressed about what isn’t being presented and that there will be demands for casting details to be known the day before yesterday. It happens every time. Not worth coming down, IMHO, on the ROH like a ton of bricks though.
  8. I understand that some ballet fans need to plan early. I like to do so myself. However coming down on the ROH like a ton of bricks because it doesn’t announce until the end of April, a little later than some other companies, seems both unnecessary and unwarranted to me. Hotel prices advertised months in advance can be priced at a premium as well as a discount. The hotel I booked six months ago in Birmingham for next week has actually come down in price and I have been able cancel and rebook at a lower rate. So, the early bird doesn’t always get the worm. To correct what I said in my previous post, Summer booking for the general public only opens the day after tomorrow. The emphasis needs to be on selling the remaining seats for this the season to a general public which is increasingly choosing not to book months in advance as the current 2023/2024 season has shown. (BRB’s La Fille Mal Gardée has been on sale to Sadlers Friends and is now onsale to the general public. A quick look shows that, despite much anxiety on BCF, actual sales including today are minimal.) In the same vein, I don’t think announcing Cinderella on April 1st or April 30th will have any impact on sales vis à vis other companies’ Nutcrackers.
  9. I think that’s why this message comes up now after one clicks on ‘Buy Seats’: “ Please sign in before choosing your seats in order to access prices available to you “ And by implication, the seats available to you. Although admittedly the wording of the message could be less obtuse to avoid continued confusion.
  10. Not sure why it makes much difference if it’s announced before, simultaneously or after other companies? Booking only opens to the general public for the summer season tomorrow. Surely the emphasis needs to be to sell these seats before dangling a new season in front of people?

  15. Until now I’ve been too anxious about how I might be received if I wore my tutu to ROH. Perhaps now I will do so knowing that someone has boldly gone before me.
  16. Might it also have something to do with the cost and availability of a dependable black dye when the production was first staged? I’m thinking of the recent discussion of Manon’s black dress signifying expensive because black was such a costly dye.
