  1. Illusions like Swan Lake in Hamburg is sold out … without casting information
  2. She is also performing the lead role in Neumeier’s The Glass Menagerie with Hamburg Ballet in Chicago on 23,24,25 February (it’s not stated that she does all 3 performances, although I note there has only been one cast to date) https://www.harristheaterchicago.org/performance/theglassmenagerie We also await casting for ‘Illusions - Like Swan Lake’ in Hamburg 11-19 February.
  3. I noted a few changes on the cast list for Sunday 15/1 which is at home. I’m away for 5 days so can’t check. There were more changes in the Spanish than Ivana. I think it was Ivana Bueno, Giorgio Garrett, Erik Woolhouse aneme ??? (It’s correct on my sheet) IIIRC Neapolitan was Francesca Velicu and Victor Prigent. Both brilliant 👏👏👏 Francesca was replaced by someone I did not know in the Czardas partnered by James Streeter
  4. Interesting Bluebird duo … Sae Maeda and Calvin Richardson. New roles for these two?
  5. the prince’s solo in Sleeping Beauty Act 3 has a manége which is a combination of jetés and chaîné turns. It sounds similar to what you have described.
  6. The Swan Lake pointe shoes with Francesca Velicu https://www.instagram.com/p/CnUNavqosN0/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
  7. I prefer the versions where they both die, as in ENB where they both jump and drown in the lake … it shows Siegfried would rather die with Odette, than be left alive alone. in the RB version … the ending is too similar to Giselle … to have Siegfried mourning Odette’s death.
  8. Olga is guesting in many places … Monte Carlo .. R&J in January, Sleeping Beauty in April https://www.balletsdemontecarlo.com/fr/actualites/olga-smirnova-invitee-ballets-monte-carlo-2023 Rome Opera … in new Bayadere production partnered by Jacopo Tissi … 25 & 28 February 2023 https://www.operaroma.it/spettacoli/la-bayadere/ Hamburg … in Neumeier’s Nijinsky … 27 & 28 June 2023 https://www.hamburgballett.de/en/schedule/ As well as performing with Dutch National Ballet … casting not yet announced for Swan Lake in March/April 2023 And galas of course: - Prix de Lausanne gala … 5 February 2023 https://www.prixdelausanne.org/artists-of-the-gala-stars/ and no doubt others! Please add below
  9. in the Uk the 2022/2023 season runs from September 2022 through August 2023. If that helps ‘accept’ the fudging. 🤣
  10. Do read these tips on ‘going to the ballet’ from Australian Ballet’s website … even if it is not your first time. Delightfully explained. https://australianballet.com.au/ballet-101/first-time
  11. do we know if it’s Reece or Natalia that is indisposed? Either way this could cause a problem for her show in New York in 11 days time … Reece was supposed to participate https://youtu.be/vf6uB_WxIdY
  12. I really enjoyed Kunstkamer … I paid to watch the livestream, so I can only imagine the full effect of a live show. There is a wide range of emotions on display ... not only angst as is often the case with contemporary dance, Because of the multiple choreographers … I suppose you could argue it’s a four part full length. The set and other commonalities running through it do hold the pieces together. I found it inventive and entertaining and uplifting.
  13. So Iana performs O/O in Berlin on Friday 13 … and debuts in London on Sunday 15. I noticed she was in London recently … I assumed for rehearsals with ENB.
  14. I see Celine Gittens and Vadim Muntagirov are cast together. Is this their first time? I do love a circle that comes around … these two were in the same Prix de Lausanne competition.
  15. currently free to watch on arte tv .. until 16 January 2023
  16. No idea …. I am guessing the choreography was probably created many years ago. So you should not pay too much attention to who the creatives were. I doubt any small company has funds to pay for new choreographies / productions post Covid..
  17. Your criticism of Ms Nerubashenko highlights the core issue of the problem in this war… that many people in both Ukraine and Russia share a joint heritage. As lovers of art we should be above this division that you are proposing. We should be supporting other artists whatever their origins to help bring peace to all. We should not be supporting the creation of further divisions amongst ourselves. (The Ukrainian conductor of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra said precisely this earlier this year). I am very aware of the anti-Russian activists currently trying to remove any Russian artists from Western theatres … opera, dance, classical music, etc are all being attacked. I abhor the menacing messages and even violence being proposed. In this the activists are no better morally, than the violence on the battlefield. And I warn them now that this action of inciting hatred will turn Westerners against Ukrainians before long. Best to stop now and direct your efforts to politicians to find a peace plan.
  18. Can you provide evidence that monies raised from these tours is going to Russia? If the directors are based in Odessa (Ukraine), Varna (Bulgaria) and Georgia as they say, it will be unlikely, plus financial sanctions will make it difficult to transfer funds. Perhaps questions should be raised with the tour promoters… Raymond Gubbay etc .., who will be pocketing the profits.
  19. Sounds to me like these companies didn’t necessarily have strictly Russian connections before … they just used Russian names ‘Moscow City Ballet’, ‘Russian State Ballet of Siberia’, etc for marketing purposes. Though I’m aware that some of their dancers were Russian in the past. So now they have rebranded and are making the most of other connections they have … Ukrainian, Georgian, … Varna, Odessa. The dancers in the troupes were always a mixed bunch and hired for the tours only. In many ways these companies are no different to Vienna Festival Ballet which was London based, toured smaller theatres in the UK, had dancers from all over and had nothing to do with Vienna itself. Except that the Director came from there. As I mentioned elsewhere, the Varna International Ballet that I saw last night in Bristol seem to have previously been, organisationally at least, The Russian State Ballet of Siberia (RSBS) . However the directors were always Varna based. The cast list had no obvious Russian names and some of the cast have been members of RSBS as well as of Varna Ballet Company itself. I do think we need to be careful to jump to conclusions. Or to ostracise these companies for prior Russian connections. All ballet has prior Russian connections.
  20. @ElenaFthank you. I use online translation tools multiple times a day … they are sufficient for The gist.
  21. If he is a former dancer, he should be on their former dancers’ page.
