  1. Given that neither rugby or football players do (and I appreciate they are playing outside) I would hope not!
  2. Excellent - hopefully they have learnt their lesson from the first 'lockdown' performance which was really quite depressing !
  3. These are from the ROH's Flickr. Enjoy! https://www.flickr.com/photos/royaloperahouse/albums/72157716075305412
  4. Speaking as a non-musical person, I found this absolutely fascinating and at times - particularly when he was speaking about his early life in Amsterdam during the war, very moving. I would certainly recommend to all. It was on BBC2 on Saturday night and is available on the iPlayer.
  5. That's the downside - it brings home with a jolt what we are missing
  6. Well its all something to look forward to. I just hope that the Government doesn't impose further restrictions in the meantime!
  7. "We are excited to announce that, after seven months, The Royal Ballet will be reunited on their home stage for a spectacular live performance from Covent Garden. Featuring much-loved traditional and contemporary classics, this celebration will be an opportunity to see the full Company again and be reminded of everything that makes The Royal Ballet so special. Royal Ballet Principals Matthew Ball, Federico Bonelli, Alexander Campbell, Francesca Hayward, Ryoichi Hirano, Sarah Lamb, Laura Morera, Vadim Muntagirov, Yasmine Naghdi, Marianela Nuñez, Natalia Osipova, Marcelino Sambé, Akane Takada and Edward Watson return to the stage with the full Company and will be accompanied by the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. The performance will be broadcast on Friday 9 October at 7.30pm and will be available to watch on-demand for 30 days. Costing just £16 for the best view in the house, as a Friend you can now exclusively book your tickets" Well at least that's some positive news, given the current gloom!
  8. Probably! Its the same as the DVD (which I also have!)
  9. If its the same version that Sky Arts have previously shown then its McRae and Osipova in Rhapsody, and Lauren Cuthbertson and Vadim Muntagirov in The Two Pigeons (same as the DVD)
  10. Just checked and yes I got an acknowledgment from Georgie Barrie of the Fundraising Campaign for my donation of tickets in May. I gave a cash donation in June and had an acknowledgement via a "donation receipt". Clearly if some people didn't receive anything, that is very poor.
  11. Possibly a bit of a shift up a gear from Government? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/theatre/what-to-see/government-finally-waking-london-will-feel-like-morgue-theatres/ Having been up to London today to a watercolour exhibition at the Mall Galleries I went on a detour round the South Bank Centre up to Covent Garden through Leicester Square and then down to Pall Mall - possibly a bit more traffic than when I last went in July but still so few people about. Not a surprise - but just shows how quiet central London still is.
  12. I thought this was rather lovely - from Meaghan Grace's IG https://www.instagram.com/p/CEyW6GxAkOs/
  13. An interesting read. I'm not sure that having intervals and keeping the bar open is a good idea! https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/09/06/nervous-bolshoi-prima-ballerinas-prepare-post-covid-return-amid/ (The Telegraph has removed its paywall over this weekend due to the Extinction Rebellion protest yesterday)
  14. I'm afraid that's rather par for the course at the moment with a lot of organisations/companies. Working from home just doesn't work sufficiently - but nothing can really change until social distancing/'Covid secure' guidelines are relaxed which clearly won't be for some time.
  15. Patrons are on the 17th but you have to book by phone - not quite sure why the 17th is therefore referred to in the website if it isn't available to the public!
  16. A bit more detail here https://open-city.org.uk/open-house I first went to London Open House many years ago (though I haven't been for some time) - managed to see inside the FCO, Lloyds of London, City Hall etc etc. London Open Squares is also worth a look for the future - https://londongardenstrust.org/ogsw/2020/home/ (as one can go into Eaton Square, Cadogan Square etc without having to own a property on the Square!)
  17. I agree with that. Meaghan is on Times Radio this evening at 18:15 so perhaps something might be mentioned then.
  18. Great to see Meaghan's efforts (and the performances themselves) shared with a wider audience.
  19. I thought this was quite informative re Ashton's works - http://www.frederickashton.org.uk/owners.html
  20. This is quite an interesting article in today's Telegraph comparing various arts institutions and how well they are (or not) dealing with the Covid situation. Please note it is behind the T'graph's paywall. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/theatre/what-to-see/covid-crisis-has-revealed-true-cultural-leadership-looks-like/ There was an interesting article about Grange Park Opera a few weeks ago, and how smaller companies were much nimbler and more proactive in reaching out than the larger 'national' companies.
  21. Something to look forward to at least! I presume that reference to "[Further details of the Royal Ballet event] and the Autumn 2020 season [will follow in the coming weeks]" means that there are planned further performances and that these two events only aren't the autumn season? Apologies if that is an obvious question - it has been a long day at work! Do you think there are plans for live audiences?
  22. That’s very interesting- I wonder if Alex Beard has jumped the gun on mentioning an October reopening? We shall see!
  23. As far as I can make out from the Arts Council there are the Culture Recovery Fund grants which aims to distribute money by October (looks like a maximum of £3m per institution) - total £500m and then the loans which will presumably be available in December. Whether that all actually totals £1.57bn (or the loans are in addition to that), or whether there is an element of the usual smoke and mirrors, I don't know.
