  1. I didn't manage to rearrange Nozze, as there were only a couple of other dates I could do & they only had tickets available that cost more than I was prepared to pay. I've seen the production several times since it was new in 2006 so I wasn't desparate enough to see it again to pay what would have been at least 3 times my original ticket price. Fortunately I was okay for Thursday this week & at the moment sufficient trains are scheduled to be running for next week's Australian Ballet viewings, as long as there aren't a slew of last minute cancellations, so fingers crossed I can make the last of this season's ROH bookings.
  2. Yes, it is a little depressing to discover the person next to you has paid considerably less than half of what you have paid for a seat, even if they have a good reason for it.
  3. I agree with you on that. I did seriously consider leaving in the second interval but, having paid £67* for my usual side stalls circle bench, though I'd better stay on. In hindsight I could have perfectly well left! I enjoyed (chronologically) Apollo, Swan Lake, Le Corsaire & Manon and thought the pdd part of Carmen & Tocororo were okay. The other pieces were not to my taste, to try to put it politely. Oh well, I suppose it was about 50% enjoyment & I can now say I've seen Acosta dance live. *The woman sat next to me struck up a conversation & asked how much I'd paid. After my reply, she said she'd paid £25 with the disabled concession & was unimpressed with the view compared to her usually sitting more centrally in the stalls circle. I would be ecstatic if I could get that view for only £25! In fact it almost made me wish I was physically disabled rather than mentally & could qualify for the concession!
  4. Thank you. I thought I had better ask beforehand, given I won't know when seeing it from just seeing it!
  5. @Rob S Thank you. I'll be planning to get my later possible train then. And the 2h50 originally on the ROH website was more accurate than the 2h30 it was changed to.
  6. Could anyone confirm what the running time was last night please? I'm going this evening & need to know for trains.
  7. I was hoping that they would be doing a different programme next season but it looks like it's exactly the same one. I'm not surprised that Peterborough isn't on the list of venues, given it did not sell well there this season.
  8. Ah, I didn't realise there were other characters. As I say, I've never seen the piece & as the production photos I saw from the RB & BRB performances in the last couple of years only showed Apollo & the three women I had assumed they were the only characters. That's disappointing that it might not be in full after all.
  9. Looks like it is Apollo in full, which I'm pleased about, not having seen it before. Swan Lake, Corsaire & Manon are all to my taste but I'm not so sure about the rest, especially End of Time and Dying Swans, which were two of my least favourites when I saw BRB2 performing in May! Does anyone know if Enrique Corrales is any relation to Cesar?
  10. I was thinking of what would be helpful for audience members, at least those of us travelling from outside London, rather than what would maximise the ROH's revenue, which is evidently their priority!
  11. When I last looked the website said 2h50 so that's 20 minutes lopped off since then. I agree that having acts no longer than the intervals is not great. Could they not have 2 acts of 50 mins each, cut an interval, & let us all get home earlier?
  12. Assuming it's the same as other overtime bans, including this week's, it'll mean fewer trains but there still should be a usable service. For example this week when I went down to London on Monday I found there was one fast train an hour between Cambridge & London and back rather than the usual fast train every half hour. So not ideal but bearable. I was a bit annoyed to see earlier that the tube strikes have been cancelled when all the recent rail strikes have gone ahead. (I am currently quite hacked off with the strikes because I couldn't get to the Nozze di Figaro I should have seen last night, making the fifth time I've had theatregoing stopped by rail strikes in just over a year.)
  13. As the ROH's orchestra has now voted in favour of possible action maybe rail strikes in the latter part of the year will have less impact on those of us trying to get to the ROH by train if the performances have already been cancelled by orchestra strikes!
  14. Apollo job share? Acosta does as much as he can & then Lawrence takes over when Acosta gets too tired? 😉
  15. I'd love to see a gala that long, or at least I would as long as they had several loo breaks! I can't imagine any being held in London though, as galas in the UK seem to only run about half that length at most.
  16. I did ask on Twitter when the ROH tweeted about the event last week if it would be streamed, as it was marked as camera filming on the website, but I didn't receive a reply.
  17. I'm hoping it'll be the whole thing. I've never seen it, as I was unable to attend the RB's 2021 performances. Since the ROH's website has the running time as 2h50 there would certainly be plenty of time to perform it complete & it feels like quite a long time to fill if only short exerpts of pieces are performed. (I was in awe reading a review of a Neumeier gala the other day that apparently lasted 5 hours!)
  18. I was surprised enough to see two nuns at Phantom of the Opera about a decade ago but Manon is a whole other level!
  19. Did anyone end up going to this? (I eventually decided not to, as I would have had to kill over 5 and a half hours between it & the show I'm seeing this evening.) There doesn't appear to be a cast sheet on the ROH's website to indicate what the event ended up comprising. I'm curious to know what Dame Felicity Lott's appearance involved.
  20. Given the quote in the first post says "17 July until the end of August" presumably about 6 weeks is required to do the maintenence. There's barely a month's gap between the last Australian Ballet performance on 6th August and the Friends' rehearsal of Rheingold on 9th September which starts the next season, so therefore the maintenance would have to coincide with some performances at one end or the other of the summer break.
  21. That's exactly the same analogy I used yesterday. I cannot understand why they didn't do the doubles first. The doubles players doubtless worked very hard to get to their final, but in terms of prestige the men's singles is a very long way ahead of them & is the pinnacle of the tournament so should be the last match.
  22. Is Forza a ghastly one? I was considering it for the autumn, as Radvanovsky's singing Leonora.
  23. Interesting to see Gasparini's Juliet costume has Cuthbertson listed as the previous wearer. I know costumes are made adjustable to fit different dancers but Cutherbertson must be inches taller than Gasparini. I would have expected Gasparini to be sharing with perhaps Naghdi or Magri.
  24. @LinMM Oh dear. That Brighton train does seem to get cancelled quite a lot. The Kings Cross trains are usually twice an hour, though with the overtime ban this week there were fewer in the middle of the day on Tuesday so I don't know if that's the case again today. I'd hope they'd have the sense not to reduce trains during the rush hour though. Oh, you're going to be coming very near to me then, as I live in Stapleford.
