  1. We were on waiting list as well last year, but didn't get a phone call. The next step for you is to say you want to be on the waiting list and list the centre's in order of preference that you could attend. And then fingers crossed for a place. You'll be on the waiting list for quite a while, so anything can happen. Last year about 1300 children applied, or that was what my daughter's teacher was told. Good luck! (And well done, a SWL place out of so many children is a good achievement).
  2. Last year, we got: London audition: Birmingham JA results and it was a no. That was last year. Still waiting on this year 😉
  3. We're also trying Young Dancers Academy, and I've heard of Masters of Ballet, who run a weekend class.
  4. Me too. But every time my phone bings I hope it'll be from them, so I'm having to stay away from the phone too. Luckily DD doesn't know results have started to come.
  5. Thank you all for the replies. They have helped a lot.
  6. She's doing Associates in Cecchetti and Tring. She's going to quite Cecchetti next year, because it clashes with Tring and it's more a series of master classes. It has its merits, but given the travelling time, and how it sometimes clashes with Tring, we are opting for doing one really well rather than divide between the two. She auditioned unsuccessfully to Elmhurst, and yesterday she auditioned for the RB JA in London. She doesn't think she will get in, but loved the experience. Yes, we're doing summer schools. At least one. We are waiting to hear from two others if she's been accepted or not.
  7. Thank you for your very thoughtful answer. You are right, I think the teacher is a good, competent teacher and it would be unfair of me to say otherwise. I'm not too bothered about my daughter not being the favourite, even though it is difficult for her and that does make me feel sad on her behalf, if you know what I mean. My main problem at the moment is that from encouraging her to have private classes with her regularly, and insist dd needs at least three ballet classes a week, and insist dd needs to work hard enough to achieve Grade 6 by the end of Year 6 - meaning two exams per year - the teacher now seems completely uninterested in arranging the private coaching she said dd needed on top of the 45 minute regular class. Whether my dd needs to be grade 5 when she applies for vocational training in Y6, I don't know. Since her classes are on Saturday mornings, if I go for more associates I will loose the syllabus classes as well, which I don't think is a good idea (although we are applying to the RBS associates). I have considered the possibility that the teacher is upset with me rather than dd, or that the teacher now thinks dd is not actually as talented or has as much potential as she initially thought. But since dd really does want to pursue ballet, my job as a mother is to provide her with what she needs and I'm not sure how to do it without the teacher's support. I do know for a fact 45 minute regular class won't be enough, though. I could also try a different studio for Saturdays, but replacing one class for just one other class doesn't seem to be clever. I have considered other bigger schools in the area, but they are RAD and I'm afraid that might mean going back a year, like when we moved to the UK and had to fit in in a different system than the one we'd been following in Oslo. You are also right about everything else you say and it's nice to be able to talk to someone who understands. I just don't know what to do anymore. DD does have to learn to go forward without being the star, the favourite, the best in class. I'm more than fine with that, difficult as it is. But she does also need enough classes/training to support work she does at home. Does any of this make sense? I'm having a bad day, so I'm not sure it does.
  8. I'm looking for a teacher who would provide private coaching as a complement to my dd's syllabus Grade 3/Standard 4 class. Her teacher is going away for the summer and is currently unable to provide private classes. We're in Milton Keynes, but could get to either London or Birmingham or anything along the train line between Euston and Birmingham. Oxford may also be a possibility. Also, I would like some advice on what to do when a beloved teacher suddenly seems to lose interest, despite the good results in exams and competitions. After a year of inspiring collaboration, she seems to have found a new favourite and, while she teaches well whenever lessons happen, she seems less than willing to continue to provide the support to achieve the goals she herself set for my dd to have a chance to get into a vocational school in Y6 (she's currently finishing Y4). Dd has noticed it too, so her confidence levels are dropping. I'm feeling a bit stuck.
  9. Did you get a positive response? Does she do private assessments if you're not with the EYB?
  10. I'll let you know when I manage to book one. I'm holding on for a bit, with the JA audition coming up and a ballet exam this weekend.
  11. It says 2013. I tried to find Shirley Hancock before posting, and I wasn't sure where to find her. Then I saw a website, and it also seemed to be only for injuries. But maybe if I phone them, I can get a consultation anyway. Thanks for your reply.
  12. I would expect a good dance physio to be sensible and sensitive about the whole business. In fact, I should hope the report to be given to me and let me handle the imparting of information appropriately. I would also expect the physiotherapist to be able to advice on how to improve what can be improved, and make for a cleverer, more efficient daily practice, and hence more time to play. Obviously this evaluation wouldn't be make or break in any sense. But it'd be a good point of reference to work from. They will make their own evaluation in the exams for the vocational schools anyway, and that's just around the corner.
  13. Hello! I'm new here. I have browsed through the contents. My dd is 9. She has applied for the associates at RBS, Tring and Cecchetti last year, and got swl for RBS and yes for both the other two. This year we tried Elmhurst, who said no, and we're trying the RBS junior associates and we will see how that goes. Reading through many posts, I've come across this idea of flat turnout and physio assessments. Since she'd really like to dance at a serious level, I've been looking into how to get a dance physiotherapist to evaluate her physical potential, as other parents have done. I must be a bit slow with this googling business, as I haven't been able to find what I need yet. She's not injured, and most places seem to be for injuries, and ask what kind of treatment we want in the form to request an appointment. How have you found someone to evaluate your dd? Any recommendations? We can get to either London or Birmingham easily. Thanks!
  14. Who did you contact? My DD's teacher wants to do this, but we're not sure who we should email. Or should it be done by phone? Congratulations to all that got off the SWL!
  15. Thanks for this! I have now asked my daughter's teacher to follow it up and see if we can get some feedback.
  16. I think somebody earlier in the thread said they got offered a place in July. But it's my first time too, so I don't know. I didn't see any Yes for y4 in London, which is surprising. Not everybody is on the forum, but still... I told my dd we'd see it as an encouragement to keep working, but we would otherwise count it as a "not yet" and be nicely surprised if we do get an offer later. Of course, it's easier for the dd when you got a yes from somewhere else... Xanthe, I like your girl's attitude. We'll see you next year at the auditions again ;-) After all, if they only take 10-15%, that's a rather small number of people and even a no is not a stamp. We have a friend in y6 who got a no, but got a yes to Elmhurst and has just performed in Swan Lake with EYB.
  17. It's a SWL for Birmingham for my DD (Y4). We're still really proud of her and who knows what is around the corner. They say she'll be on the list for the whole first term. (Also she did get the CBA at Tring, and we'll try again next year. It was her first audition after all ;-) ) Congratulations to all those who got in. I wish you the best!
  18. Sorry to hear this, but she's obviously very talented. Congratulations on getting a yes from all those places (and good luck with choosing between them, if you have to!) I have heard that many that graduate at the RBS come close to the end, but, as someone else said, RBS is not the only way to become a good professional dancer in the long run. Good luck to us all still waiting!
  19. Sounds very familiar, this does! Good luck!
  20. I have this question too, as my DD was also on the last day. Good luck everyone!
  21. Oh, so the later I hear the better ;-) Thanks for letting me know. I just started wondering because people kept talking about the refresh button, so it could be like school results. Congratulations on being offered a place for you DD. I will post when I hear. It's exciting it may be already next week, since the we were told to expect it only in early July. But yes, the wait is horrible. She's cool with it, going on with her things (her school has a performance coming up). Mummy on the other hand...
  22. Hello! Also new to the forum. We're eagerly awaiting the London results and reading through this thread I realised I'm not sure how the news are given out. Do they send us an email, or is it posted on their website?
