  1. Me too lol, well newish, I know how you feel. I picked up a card in a ballet shop in Birmingham for Nicholdon School of Dance and has a quick look at their website out of interest, and they run a fortnightly advanced two and a half hour ballet class for the more serious ballet student. Thought it would suit my dd, but not got round to enquiring whether or not it's open to outside students, but it looks really good and they are close to the train station. The Royal Ballet do an associate scheme in Birmingham too details of how to audition are on their website though auditions for next academic year are finished :-(
  2. Hi Hoglett, have you thought about associate schemes? my dd is in a similar situation but only 1 hour RAD grade 4 ballet and tap hour Y 6, she will also be starting interfoundation in the next few weeks which is a hour and a half a week. We've been looking at associate classes for my dd for in y7, have found a few possibles in Birmingham, Warrington and Leeds, many of them have auditions coming up in the summer term and are on Sunday's. Northern ballet have an amazing CAT ballet scheme in Leeds, which dds dance teacher has highly recommended she apply for next year. Where are you based ?
  3. Maybe Taxiforballet hopefully the worst is staged to add some extra drama, but those children are look so genuinely upset by it all. Do parents like that actually exist they are horrendous! The girls have so much make up on too its so easy to forget how young they are too.
  4. I have just watched this routine and i agree as a mother of a little gymnast it does indeed look like a kind of weird OTT gymnastics routine in fancy dress and full make up and lots of flexibility type moves thrown in. My dd is competes gymnastics as well as dancing and loves to tumble, but not on a hard floor oh my gosh!! She is always on a fully trampolined bouncy floor to protect her joints and as I am aware I have never seen her tumble on a hard floor or dance floor, maybe for fun sometimes on soft grass. That poor girls joints!! Hopefully she practises on a tumble track, I can she does with all the money they must make on Dance Moms...! Americans love that kind off OTT thing like cheerleading. Is this a tumbling dance style in only taught in America ? Dd watches the next step and it is similar I think? She does love these shows though I can't stand the mums So pushy with their children it's horrible, I hate seeing how they are always crying poor things.
  5. Sorry just realised I miss read your email! Your dd is auditioning for a y6 place next year, at the centre my dd goes to, the y6 class is only Y6s and y4/5s together in a class, so Y6 will have lots of new places available as the y4s will stay in the same class etc I assume it works like this elsewhere, so don't worry and good luck xxx
  6. Hi Katia05, don't worry my dd first auditioned in Y4 and was offered a y5 place as some students will move up to the Y6 only class which is a separate class which frees up new places for the y4/5 class, well at our centre anyway it seemed to work that way anyhow. Good luck to your dd, my dd loved being a JA xxx
  7. Thank you so much everyone, all these options we had never heard of, I am going to make a list and go through it with dd this weekend, Warrington is close too, she is fine after a little cry, but she's learning how to become a fighter X
  8. Thank you Sunday's are best so will look into that too for her xxx
  9. Thanks Piccolo, I didn't know Elmhurst had an associate scheme for Y7s will look into that too we don't mind a trip to Birmingham if nothing closest as long as it's not during the week xxx
  10. Thanks Jazzpaws, I love the look of the one at the northern it would be perfect for her, I just don't think I could get her to Leeds after school, I've also got a younger child wish it was in Manchester it looks amazing!!!
  11. Yes the CAT scheme looks really good, we are only a couple of miles away, she's never done contemporary, I think she might enjoy it though, thanks so much and I will keep you posted on how we get on xxx
  12. Thank you so much for your kind words everyone and I will follow up all those options, Sunday's are a good day for us so that is great, I will tell her about other options when I break the news to her after school today at least it gives her something positive. She absolutely loved every second of RBS JAs, it has been the most amazing experience for her and she feels do lucky to have had that time. Good luck to everyone still waiting xxx
  13. South Manchester Picturesinthefirelight thank you xx she's only interested in ballet, so an associate type scheme to compliment her regular school is what she needs, thought about taking her to the northern in Leeds on Sunday but its quite a trek xxx
  14. We got a no from Elmhurst and beautifully worded short waiting list for Manchester Mids, she'll be devastated as she only has one hour a week ballet RAD grade dance wise apart from Associates, but I think we now need to have a big rethink and explore other avenues for her if we can find any! any recommendation would be welcome. I know her school will help as much as they can. We can must move on from this it now enjoy the rest of her interesting JA journey and look forward to summer school she's learnt so much from this experience and loved every second. Well done to all the yeses and comiserations to all the nos they ar hard to take when it means everything to them xxx
  15. Good luck everyone, Do you think they are deciding today, hopefully before Easter? dd is insisting she open hers herself and she's in school this week! So going to have the envelope staring at me all day when it arrives, don't like opening her results letters anyway so glad X
  16. Sorry to hear the Lou78, I hope it's good news for your dd and good luck at Hammond. She must be very talented to get through to both those finals!! Xxx
  17. We have the same problem with the growth spurts TBG I can sympathise there 3 inches since September. At gymnastics her coach said she'll stop growing young as she started developing early they consider these things carefully before they let them onto advanced level squad, also thankfully she is small boned so her body weight to strength ratio is good and she has good natural bounce. I think she'll be fully gown at 13 and we are both tallish too! I have told her Darcey Bussell is tall so she shouldn't let it put her off X
  18. Hi Lou78, my dd was in group 2 too,is your dd y7? my dd said she thinks the physio were giving all of them some helpful feedback, sometimes at their age I think their bones grow faster than their muscles too and it's useful to stretch until they catch up X
  19. I've asked dd is she was given any advice by the physio and she said she was told everything was fine, but she needs to stretch her quads, it's great they get some constructive feedback X
  20. Hi Amos73, so glad your dd enjoyed Elmhurst too, what a beautiful school. DD has been floating around on a high all today, she feels she's widened her horizons, raised her bar a little and has more confidence in herself, so all so positive regardless of outcome. She also loved meeting all the other little ballet dancers from all over the country. That's not that many 35 oh my gosh they've done so well, so 1 in 3 of Y7 girls maybe will have their dreams come true next week how lovely, best wishes to each and every one of them X
  21. Well done to everyone who auditioned at Elmhurst this week! Dd loved it and could only hope in her wildest dreams she would be offered a place. Dds group were told she would hear next week, she was in group 2. She also, said there were 2 groups of year 7s one of which was her group had 8 y8s in, and 25 in each group, so 42 y7 girls, feel so proud she got this far and will be keeping our fingers crossed for them all! X
  22. I have always suffered from acne as a teenager as so can sympathise with your dd. I never found a cure and still have mild acne scarring so I can't help there, but I found wearing make up helped me forget I had bad skin at least especially awful in teenage years I know it's not ideal but it helped me, I swear by Lancome Teint Idol 24 hour its the only foundation I have ever found that I can wear to the gym and sweat loads (cardio) and is still intact any other foundation I've tried just runs or transfers off, it's quite pricy but a little bit goes a long way.
  23. lol thank you petal violet, typo due to typing on my iPhone. Just to add too if your dd balletmum28 does successfully apply to be a JA it's incredibly competitive once she's there too and you will need know you dds school behind her. Although I can also say is sometimes very nice for dd to attend a school where nobody knows She is a JA or is asks if she's been successful in any auditions, dds school is a lovely sanctuary from the audition roller coaster at the moment.
  24. Hi balletmum28, why don't you ask to make an appointment with the principal of your dds school and explain how much your dd aspiires towards a career as a balletina and see what she advices? . My dd is from a school too where students aren't ever asked to apply for associate schemes, but lines of communication between us and the school are always open and she was strongly encouraged to try after as she was advised to be potentially "Royal type" and the school checking we would be able prepared to fund it and happy for her to board. They asked me because due to the enormous amount of energy and time she was putting into her gymnastics career they felt she'd be better directing into ballet where she wouldn't be finished at age 18 and make a career out of her passion. Good luck I hope They can offer you advice and guidance constructive communication we need that as parents if not and they won't help you or your dd is there another school your dd could move too nearby ? xxx
