  1. Except that the question has been asked - several times. Sleeping Beauty starts in a few hours' time - perhaps we could start getting this thread back on track before then?
  2. Incidentally, if when starting a thread like this you add the tag "accommodation", then once the thread has been posted you can click on that tag and bring up all the other threads tagged with "accommodation"
  3. I remember one in which the mean stepmother was imprisoned in a wooden barrel, sharp nails were hammered into the side of the barrel, and she was rolled downhill into the river in it :ugh: Think I should go and set the recorder before I go out ...
  4. This was the third thread we had on the subject, so I've merged them all
  5. Mats Ek has of course also done Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. I suppose the question is, how do you define The Classics? I wouldn't call Rite of Spring one, for one.
  6. Shall I just change the thread title to "Matthew Golding"?
  7. "Giselle – one of the most romantic ballets Last minute Christmas gift idea: 1/3 off tickets* English National Ballet’s classic telling of Giselle comes to the splendour of the London Coliseum from Wednesday 11 – Sunday 22 January 2017. Giselle is a haunting story of innocence and betrayal, a timeless tale about the redemptive power of love. Moving from the sunny optimism of Giselle’s idyllic village life to a moonlit world of mystery and menace, Mary Skeaping’s production of Giselle features some of ballet’s most dramatic scenes and otherworldly images. Adolphe Adam’s score, performed live by English National Ballet Philharmonic, adds to the lush atmosphere. 8. Personally, I'm not sure I've ever bought a ticket for Beauty based on anything but who the scheduled ballerina is. I suppose if it were someone I was slightly iffy about a really good Prince might just sway me, though. (And as I started typing this I remembered that last time around Lamb was dancing with McRae)
  9. You should have done, Lin (and it is available on DVD, isn't it?)
  10. I got into Nutcracker, non-discounted, for under £20 the other day. Not much under, but still, it was under (and admittedly wouldn't have been, had I not paid cash).
  11. I'm sure it wasn't that long ago that the balcony top price was £25 (and stalls something around £90). Oh well, that's me who won't be going again, since I don't think I can fit into any of the restricted-view seats. By the way, are these "gala" performances still raising funds for some charity somewhere, or has that gone by the board? BTW, I suspect the "new" website name may be an attempt to put some distance between the venue and ENO.
  12. And now, Christmas Eve onwards (I've stretched the definition of "dance" a bit more than usual): Terrestrial: BBC2, Saturday 24th December, 8.10 am: Hans Christian Andersen - apparently features a ballet including Eric Bruhn and Roland Petit! BBC, Christmas Day, 4.00 pm: Dancing the Nutcracker: Inside the Royal Ballet Channel 5, Christmas Day, 9.50 am: On The Town BBC2, Boxing Day, 5.20 pm: West Side Stories: the Making of a Classic - documentary BBC4, Boxing Day (technically December 27th), 1.00 am: Darcey Bussell: My Life on the BBC BBC4, Boxing Day (technically December 27th), 2.00 am: Darcey Bussell's Looking for Audrey Channel 5, Boxing Day, 2.20 pm: West Side Story (and repeated on 29th December at 11.05 am) BBC4, 27th December, 7.00 pm: The Ballet Master: Sir Peter Wright at 90 Sky Arts: Saturday 24th December, 10.10 am: The Nutcracker Christmas Day (or technically Boxing Day), 2.00 am: The Nutcracker Boxing Day, 9.00 pm: Billy Elliott the Musical Live Boxing Day (technically December 27th), 3.30 am: Graeme Murphy's Swan Lake I've also inserted this into the original post.
  13. Getting back to the subject of the thread, I've been meaning to say how beautifully matched Lamb and Muntagirov look in those photos. Capybara, I welcome virtually anything which breaks up a run of Nuts! My only concern, as I think I mentioned when it was originally announced, is whether it will put excessive stress on the dancers, and the female corps in particular.
  14. John, I've cut your quote down to the relevant parts, as it didn't comply with the forum guidelines on limiting quotes. However, there's no reason why you shouldn't put a link to the Mackrell review in the post
  15. And any UK listeners who missed it can download it as an MP3 here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0855ynh#play
  16. Thanks, Jacqueline, yes, I had spotted it. (The Desert Island Discs programme was very interesting, by the way)
  17. Just bumping to remind people that this is tomorrow.
  18. Hang on, who was Lamb originally supposed to be dancing with?
  19. Just in time! Thanks, RMM1 - I'll add it to the original post.
  20. ... and his career in general, as it turned out. First 10 or so minutes of the programme.
  21. Sometime between 7.15 and 7.45 on Radio 4, talking about his new production of The Red Shoes.
