A new low for the Royal Opera marketing team
alison replied to FionaM's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
"Sorry, this page isn't available. The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed." ?? Perhaps someone had second thoughts. -
The main problem from up on high was the dark boots - I struggled to see the feet ...

I wonder if it may also be down to the change in lighting? If companies have been moving over to LEDs, that will probably have "bleached" the colours. And talking of lighting, they really do need to do something about the "dark" bits of the show - I could barely see Carabosse at times apart from the exposed skin at her neckline, and even less so her minions.

20 years ago…The Royal Ballet season 2004/5
alison replied to The Sitter In's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
So that's when the "Two Weddings and a Funeral" bill took place! I couldn't remember. That season would, I think, have been somewhat exceptional, though, given that it was the Ashton centenary, as I recall. Ondine - then, and then in 2009, and not since? Must also have been the occasion of the Ballet.co "Ondine to be sponsored by Kwells" April Fool ... How time flies. -
Birmingham Hippodrome, any tips or advice?
alison replied to gdallas's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
It will also be a lot more expensive (and watch out for the far slower trains which run the same route at substantially lower cost!) - an off-peak return is pushing £70 (https://www.avantiwestcoast.co.uk/tickets-and-savings), whereas it's about half that via Chiltern Railways (which may admittedly only be 4/5 carriages). You can advance-book a specific train at lower cost, but then you need to make very sure that you don't miss it. Avanti tickets are generally valid for any viable route, so that includes Chiltern, but the reverse isn't true - normally.- 37 replies

She certainly has grown in this ballet since I saw her near-debut in Southampton. And yes, I agree about the chemistry: I actually felt that their story mattered, which I find is a bit of a rare thing in Sleeping Beauty.

Royal Ballet - Swan Lake 2024
alison replied to Linnzi5's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
The Bourmeister version of Swan Lake also uses a prologue, doesn't it - along with Derek Deane's version for ENB? -
International Dance Day, 29 April
alison replied to FionaM's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Quite. I was about to say "can you imagine anything similar happening in the UK?" (or for that matter quite a few other countries), but I see Roberta's beaten me to it. -
If sadler's wells are going to have 15-minute intervals, then they need to sort out the queues for ice cream and programmes. They were incredibly slow (understaffed?), and I had barely bought my ice cream when I had to get back into the auditorium. Plus there were still long queues for the ladies' at the bell.

WANTED tickets for "CARMEN", Sunday 5 May, 3 p.m.
alison replied to Amelia's topic in Ticket Exchange & Special Offers
There are an awful lot of Carmens on at the moment, Amelia - which one is it you're looking for? -
Well, in that case perhaps I'm not surprised - there would be copyright considerations in that case, I suppose. (And I'm pretty sure it is).

Yes, it's a real shame he's out of action for the next ... however long -
Did they put a trigger warning on the production?

(Never seen the opera, but have frequently seen photos of the blood-spattered bridal gown) - am I right in thinking that the miscarriage was chosen as an alternative reason for the bloodstains?

Royal Ballet - Swan Lake 2024
alison replied to Linnzi5's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Unfortunately, due to the incompetence of his suppliers, our electrician had to work late tonight, meaning that I couldn't get away in comfortable time for the cinema showing - and given the dirty looks I've previously received for daring to turn up just before the start I didn't fancy risking it this time. So I guess I'll have to catch an encore performance. Hoping everyone enjoys it. -
I hope everyone who goes tonight enjoys it.

It's typical: my GWR claim which I was appealing against because they claimed it was 29 minutes and I claimed it was 31 and therefore double what they were paying - IS apparently 29 minutes because the train I was on got into Paddington a few minutes earlier than scheduled. Never mind the having to wait for an extra half-hour-plus at the departure station, it's the arrival time which counts, and that was only 29 minutes late

Audience Behaviour - Thread 2
alison replied to BalletcoForum Moderators's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Well, since the chances of my ever watching him conduct again are likely to be around zero, I'm not that bothered. -
I turned Radio 3 on when I got into the office this afternoon: they were in the middle of a tribute to him. Sometime around 2.15 if you want to look for it on iPlayer. Doubtless there will be more on In Tune at 5 pm.

National Theatre Christmas show - Ballet Shoes
alison replied to Lynette H's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Not quite sure what this is doing here but if they sent me that offer for a date I *could* do (tonight clashes with Melissa Hamilton at the Ballet Association) I might well be tempted to take them up on it -
Royal Ballet - Swan Lake 2024
alison replied to Linnzi5's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I've always thought the "same dress" aspect (were they all identical, or just very similar?) was a reflection of your first post, Dave. They might as well be identikit to Siegfried, because he's not interested in any of them. Equally (and this applies e.g. to a former ENB/LFB production, where less-experienced dancers were sometimes cast initially as either Odette or Odile only), we need to see that Odette and Odile appear to the prince to be the same person, regardless of whether we the audience see them differently.
