  1. Well said Bestfootforward!!!! ..... Even though I have 2 children in the vocational system I do believe very strongly that with a good local teacher a child can have the best of both worlds , good teaching and daily parental support and guidance. It wouldn't be a very good argument for supporting your child to attend a vocational school if it didn't give them a very good chance of succeeding in gaining a place at Upper School !
  2. I'm with Pups-mum My dd was at an RAD day and they use a lovely photographer who is an ex Hammond Girl .On the day my dd had a water infection and wasn't really feeling up to dancing , the photos that were taken on the day were stunning .I think exdancers are more aware of how a dancer moves or can maybe anticipate better what they will do next . I agree with Vonrothbart about it being competetive but then our young DCs are used to competing and the dance world can make them very resilient. I work in a very competetive trade but if you are good at what you do you can rise to the top . Fashion again is a very competetive area and high grade GCSEs are needed to get on a good college course . Can you tell I've been through all this as an alternative for my dd Just to note you cannot send digitally enhanced photographs for auditions so plenty of scope for a career in Audition Photos alone , who better than to make the most of your best attributes than someone who knows what a panel is looking for.
  3. Hi Anondancer 15 I've noticed quite a few photographers that are ex-dancers . From reading your posts you seem to be interested in the same subjects as my dd and she has quite an eye for photography.
  4. Initially we filled in a small form indicating what bracket our income fell into. We received the full application forms once we accepted the awards. I don't know if you are aware Sarah 761 , there is a table on the gov.uk site that gives you a rough guide of what your contribution will be
  5. Hi Sarah 761 Both my husband and I are self-employed and we were given extra time to complete our accounts for the previous tax year . Given that I only just get my books to the accountant by Christmas , meant that I had to tackle them extra early that year . Of course the Hubby always has them completed and signed off by May
  6. Thanks Pastel I think we are going for the record of waiting lists for Royal. She was waiting list for MAs too so that's 5 in total !! That's a shame for your dd but so many other good courses , there is just something that feels so special where Royal is concerned especially when it's just out of reach
  7. I don't want to disappoint anyone but my dd has been on the waiting list, including this year , 4 times and we have never had the "Royal Summons" although I do know one girl personally and Tulips dd who did get a last minute place. It used to be called Short Wait List , so who knows maybe priority are above selected , I do know I won't be booking our summer holiday around it or holding my breath on the 18th July. Well done to all those with a yes and to everyone else good luck and there's always next year
  8. Hi Jade We only have experience of lower school in this house but elder dd did do the Upper School audition. They seem to put lots of emphasis on wanting to see performance. The facilities are lovely and the staff are very welcoming. Is it possible to get a couple of singing lessons before the audition ? It might put your dd a little more at ease with singing as a teacher can advise a song that suits her and show her how to mark the music as , if it's still the same , you need sheet music . 2dancersmum will know a lot more about 6th form. Good Luck to your dd . Edited for bad grammar
  9. Sorry Chaperone posting at the same time .
  10. Unless the rules have changed on how the dada rules are applied , unfortunately I don't think it will . Currently your income is assessed once for the full 3 years , the only thing that is reassessed every year is the maintenance grant . I do hope no one has missed out auditioning at schools they thought were unaffordable on the current levels.
  11. Hi Jazzpaws I would suggest looking at open or drop in classes , of course this would depend on where you live and your nearest city . Some of these classes are taken by professionals who usually work in colleges, although my dd is on an MT course her ballet teacher is Royal trained and has worked at Elmhurst in the past . At our nearest studio of this type , an hrs train ride away , they offer a variety of classes every day including vocational grades , Pilates etc .
  12. There is a programme currently showing on Sky Arts ..... Deborah Bull is looking into the training at the Bolshoi .
  13. Primrose I find your insight into The Bolshoi very interesting !! After reading the interview I felt ,apart from a very sweeping statement made by Mr Powney, it sounded like he intends to implement some positive changes . I also feel that the 'hands on ' approach to training and correcting students is more beneficial for some. Only this week my dd had a rehab style lesson with a teacher that was new to her , she was physically manoeuvred into position , my dd appeared to grow another 3 inches before my eyes and looked every inch the ballerina . After class I asked her if her regular teachers had corrected her on weight placement "yes" she replied " but I didn't really know what they meant".
  14. Hi Sugarplumsmum You may already know this but you can use a company called 'School fee Plan' . They pay your bill then split it into 12monthly payments they add 2% for this service . All the extras are also added on as you go and the payments are adjusted throughout the year . I do hope you raise enough money for your dd to stay , wishing her every success .
  15. Haha it must have been Alison , I have never noticed it before ,will probably see it a lot now!!! Thanks Drdance I'm going to ask her physio if there would be any benefit using it for her type of injury .
  16. Well done to all especially Regattahs dd as we know her . Fingers crossed for all DCs in future auditions .
  17. Well done to your dd Miracle , what a lovely start to the Christmas holidays.
  18. http://www.physioroom.com/images/products//full/38825_image.j I'm not sure if this will work , I'm not very good with technology No doesn't look like it has worked but you can see a section ' taping and strapping' this is the tape .
  19. I have recently stumbled upon and purchased this tape . I was wondering if anyone has any experience of using it for ballet class. A few of you will know younger dd had a bad injury and I thought it could be beneficial for her to use it. Elder dd has just informed me that the physio at college uses this a lot.
  20. I'm not sure of the specific answer but a Trinity Diploma level 6 is counted higher than A levels and i think is the equivalent to a foundation degree. My dd is at Bird and she will be able to top her Diploma up to a BA Hons via long distance learning .
  21. I was under the impression it didn't matter wether you were self-funded or not , it has to be the your first HE course .... Or is it one of those situations like the child benefit , it depends on who you speak to on the other end of the phone !! Taken from the gov website : Generally, you’ll only get student finance if you’re doing your first higher education qualification. This is true even if your previous course was self-funded. Generally must be the key word here !!
  22. I hadn't noticed this before Lildancer96 ,thanks for bringing it too our attention . Does anyone have a DC that has topped up their diploma to a degree ? I could do with some guidance either by PM or I could start another thread if there isn't one already .
  23. Hi Tutucute Very thick hair can be razored to thin the hair out without losing the length. As someone has already suggested have a chat with your hairdresser .
