  1. It's worth keeping an eye on this page: https://danceeurope.net/auditions/
  2. I've just notice that the article doesn't mention the Ben Stevenson production which was commissioned by Ivan Nagy, the AD before Derek Deane.
  3. Aren't most of the competitions that have been mentioned here for younger students who may then get a scholarship to attend an upper school. I was under the impression that in the UK, education to the age of 18 is now mandatory. Unless it has changed since the pandemic lockdowns the magazine Dance Europe often had a list of upcoming auditions that may be worth perusing.
  4. Yes, Tchaikovsky was Drosselmeyer. There's a good feature on the ENB website about the Nutcrackers they have performed over the years: https://www.ballet.org.uk/blog-detail/the-changing-face-of-nutcracker/
  5. Other dancers are putting the missing notice all over social media. It is so very worrying. I do hope she is found soon, safe & well.
  6. Arielle Smith has been commissioned to produce a work for London City Ballet: https://londoncityballet.com/company/about/
  7. Yes, that’s the one! IIRC Christopher Bruce created the role of Tchaikovsky.
  8. I was under the impression that while company directors may judge at or attend competitions these competitions are not job fairs and the vast majority of competitors will not be considered for company contracts at these competitions. My understanding is that most companies hold auditions and invite people to apply for them or directors may go directly to the schools on occasion. Certainly Northern Ballet's audition notice doesn't say anything about competitions. (Linked again for ease of reference.)
  9. Gosh that's awful and everyone must be very worried. Please keep us in the picture Sabine.
  10. Aakash Odedra is at the Hippo on 10th otherwise this is at The Rep: https://www.birmingham-rep.co.uk/whats-on/blue-beard/
  11. Hello @Betty this is an earlier thread of places it may be worth researching:
  12. The first LFB/ENB Nutcracker I saw in the mid-80s was choreographed by Ronald Hynd. I loved it! I thought the Ben Stevenson one they did after the Schaufuss production was boring and mundane. I absolutely adored the Schaufuss snowflakes and, overall, really enjoyed his production.
  13. I always used to fold my jacket and place it under my seat. At the end of one performance I picked up my emerald green leather jacket to discover the front streaked with chocolate ice cream from a discarded tub!! I started my theatre going mostly going to see rock gigs in the 1970s - at those I didn't see people eating but most definitely (including me) drinking!
  14. Oh my goodness me. How can an "abstract" ballet be so emotionally moving? I feel as though I've been put through a wringer. I loved the choreography, I loved the set, I loved the music and (most of all) I loved the dancers. I would love to see it live!!
  15. I'm by no means an apologist for the Royal Ballet but given the size of the stage it would look awfully empty if there were no large scale works...
  16. But who knows what he may be capable of if given the opportunity...
  17. If it is just for production costs, for a large scale production these days I wouldn't think it is that expensive when you think of what is involved. I heard years ago that a mid-sized production for a smaller company cost £250,000...
  18. Arthur Pita has quite a wide range. The first time I saw one of his works it was under his own name at the Lowry and was called Camp. To this day it is one of the funniest things I have seen. I've also loved his 2 works for Ballet Black - the gorgeous Crystaux and the absolutely hilarious Dream within A Midsummer Night's Dream.
  19. I believe they have an Oxford English Dictionary app that they use to generate a few random words that they then attach to choreographers and light the blue touch paper!
  20. A variety of trailers, reviews and features via google. I've tried a couple of Margaret Attwood's books and never been able to finish them so this doesn't fill me with a desire to see it even though I tend to like Wayne McGregor's choreography.
  21. Scroll down for dance: https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2024/jan/07/observer-writers-culture-highlights-for-2024-van-gogh-bong-joon-ho (Other companies also mentioned)
  22. I have seen them all live as well as on CBeebies and they are all delightful (not that I am in any way biased!!) Just a reminder that (now first-soloist of the RB) Isabella Gasparini stars in The Ugly Duckling. Thanks @Janite for the link.
  23. Click on the four little lines on the top right hand side of the page. You will see a little envelope. This is the DM system. However, @Sabine0308 a number of us may be interested in your advice for Berlin and Munich!
