  1. There...now we know why he's coming over...oh no, please not Sleeping Beauty again over Xmas (2013)!
  2. Full sympathy for a dancer's birthday&debut=special circumstances (...), but still, I feel it is inappropriate when dancers' clapping in the wings is audible by us the audience.
  3. A friend of mine went to the Triple Bill Matinee yesterday and - besides the coughing "orchestra" - also commented on hearing clapping coming from the wings...well after the audience had stopped clapping! Dancers clapping for fellow dancers? Surely this can be done away from the wings... it was perceived as very unprofessional.
  4. I am with you Aileen, I didn't find Jacqueline's opinion offensive at all. She's free to have her personal opinion, and if she didn't like what she saw that's her right no?
  5. An excellent Triple Bill, beautifully danced by all the dancers (a refreshing "break" from the Nutcracker) and "Raymonda" decor and costumes GORGEOUS ( loved the Corps dresses ). Happy to have seen a Nureyev choreography.
  6. Rupert Pennefather is hardly ever dancing.... Am I the only one thinking he seems to be permanently injured or semi-injured?
  7. Many thanks Dave for showing us photos of two casts. Beautiful, as always. "The Christmas Angel" couldn't be more Christmassy, a stunning photo, and also the one of my favourite "Clara" Emma-Jane Maguire!!!
  8. She has not been seen on stage since well before Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Feb/March 2012). Does anyone know what's wrong???
  9. Not so sure Alison. I watched her eyes whilst she was translating and I am sure she looked at a screen...
  10. and here is Liam's Picture Call http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgjzZfA_Ixo&feature=relmfu
  11. Belljul' I'm sure when all the skills required for many jobs are listed it all looks rather challenging. So I am choosing to see the list as a wonderful set of skills that my kids will hopefully develop over time. You are absolutely right and good to see it in a positive light. The difference for a dancer is that their body is their instrument and they have to cope with near permanent exhaustion and bodily pains whilst most other professions are not simultaneously physically and mentally exhausting.
  12. I can think of a few "hares" too and have seen "tortoises" overtake in the long run. Certainly once dancers enter professional companies the best from all over the world are there to compete with!
  13. To make it in this profession, so much more than talent alone is needed. The battle only begins when professional life starts, training is the easiest part, (ask any professional dancer). Tremendous willpower and mental strength, great perseverance, a very strong body (and preferable remaining injury free, most of the time), very fast learner capable of picking up choreography at the speed of light, having great self confidence to replace injured colleagues at short notice and go on stage, highly developed artistry, stage presence, high self-motivation, high pain tolerance, having the intelligence to interpret different roles, living/working in a highly competitive environment, barely any time to live a "normal" life (performance days incl. Saturday matinees and evenings thus dancers only have 24 hours off, on Sundays, to recuperate...and to start all over again on Mondays)... Perhaps others on the Forum can add to the list of "requirements"
  14. I remember reading that Yasmine Naghdi had only just finished her 1st Year at the Upper School, skipped the 2nd Year and was moved straight into the Graduate/3rd Year. She was offered several contracts including a Royal Ballet contract a few months into the Graduate year. She was only 18 months out of White Lodge when she entered The Royal Ballet company as a professional dancer . Now that's very very rare!
  15. Luke Jennings wrote about this problem in the Guardian a few months ago.
  16. I really loved "Infra"s other cast . I have seen the original cast with Melissa and Eric but this cast brought a lovely freshness to it. Loved it more now, compared to when I saw it first time around. It was danced by a younger cast, including the upcoming and recently promoted Yasmine Naghdi, Fumi Kaneko and Meagan Grace Hinkis. The Fumi/Dawid pdd was a joy to watch and Yasmine was stunning in the Finale pdd-with Johannes Stepanek. She was a hard act to follow dancing in Viscera, Infra and Fool's Paradise!Fool's Paradise was like a beautiful painting to me, lovely to just sit back and enjoy: Marianella simply beautiful as she always is (love her), she shared the stage with Leanne Benjamin and Yasmine Naghdi (loved the part when Leanne danced a "pdd" with Yasmine: the mature and the young ).I must admit I was greatly impressed with Yasmine and cannot wait to see her tackle even bigger roles. All in all a very enjoyable Mixed Bill (and very welcome during this overlong run of Swan Lake).
  17. Even with horrible/difficult lighting to photograph in...the photos are still gorgeous Dave! I really can't wait to see this cast in the Mixed Bill on Wednesday.
  18. Indeed it must be a nightmare for the dancers Alison, and a great challenge. At the same time it offers great opportunities to some of the younger company members...who most probably have had little rehearsal time
  19. Alison, why would it be a casting nightmare if I may ask so? They all seem perfectly capable to me
  20. I am going on 7th and I am so excited to see a new Principal "Infra" cast. McGregor has so often worked with the same dancers, it's refreshing! Delighted also I'll see Naghdi's debut, alongside Benjamin and Nunez, in Wheeldon's "Fool's Paradise".
  21. Thank you Alison. I was referring to the Infra mixed bill. I shall have to exercise more patience
  22. The upcoming Triple Bill casting on ROH website is also not up-to-date and several TBAs Isn't there anyone at ROH who can keep us better informed? I buy tickets (mainly) because I like to watch (and follow) particular dancers.
