taxi4ballet
I always had one foot that was more arched than the other so the back of one shoe would have been too soft if I had tried to swap them over. I guess everyone is different and is taught differently and it is just what works best. My dd's feet are different too, with one foot fractionally more arched, and the other a bit wider. Once she's worn her shoes - that's it. She says they'd feel totally wrong on the opposite feet. Edited to add: and one foot is a little longer than the other too. Definitely not a matching pair! Anjuli_Bai
I think everyone's feet are different - a slightly higher arch on one foot - and/or stronger - or a difference in size. For me, and the many I knew who switched shoes - switching shoes seemed to help even these differences out. But - perhaps - doing this from the early days of training might make a difference. It was taught to me from my very first pointe lesson. Edited February 10, 2014 by Anjuli_Bai
taxi4ballet
My dd's tried switching her soft shoes and didn't like it at all. Perhaps you're right - that it needs to be done from the beginning, then you wouldn't notice any difference as you have always done it that way. Loulabelle
My dd was told to swap her pointe shoes over recently as she has one slightly stronger foot than the other so breaks one shoe before the other. She said it felt totally alien and uncomfortable, the upshot being yet another new pair of shoes needed!????
Anjuli_Bai
The switching of the shoes needs to occur from the beginning - from the first time they are worn.
Katymac
DD is now the proud possessor of a new pair of pointe shoes (& ribbons & elastic & size changers & toe separators & top caps & bag & novel!!) Just Ballet is amazing - thank you so much!!!

afab
Novel, what is it?
Sheila Beelam
Lovely to see you and DD today Katymac The size changers are a very thin layer of padding that lines the top of the box and also gives a little cushioning at the toe. They reduce the size of the shoe by approximately 1/4 of a size The novel was a book! Dance related of course!
Loulabelle
Can anyone recommend a very quiet brand and style of pointe shoes? Watched some girls at local festival today and many had very noisy pointe shoes. DD isn't old enough to compete on pointe yet but she says her current favourite pointe shoes (Bloch Serene's) are very noisy. She's ready to try something new so thought we'd try and incorporate 'quiet shoes' in our list of requirements when we go shopping.
Sheila Beelam
Hi Loulabelle The Grisko nova is designed to be a quieter shoe, though it's hard to test the noise claims in a shop!
Aurora
Darning helps to make the shoes quieter.

Katymac
Sorry!!! DD was so chuffed to find a book combining Ballet & Ballroom!!! I wanted to buy so much Sheilia's shop is a cross between Alladin's Cave, a TARDIS & a fairytale grotto!!! DD suggested handing over money every month between now & September so she can come on a spending spree..... DH was a bit unsure about going that far but even adding in the petrol (but perhaps not the book) it wasn't significantly more expensive than buying locally and the care, time & knowledge we were shown was immense. Previously DD had been expected to 'know' stuff & as they were her first shoe, she simply didn't. Altogether a great afternoon we both learnt loads
afab
We've been known to come from France to shop at Sheila's!!! Even when delivered here, the prices are better for us and the service is fantastic. I love the idea of helping a small shop staying alive...
Sheila Beelam
Ah thanks chaps! We had someone down from Northampton for a tutu this morning, so word is spreading! I think we need a bigger shop It's being transformed into a photo shoot location tomorrow so will be more chaotic than normal! Sx
Thecatsmother
You can take pointe shoes outside and bang the base of the shoe upon concrete or a hard surface as this will help take the noise out of them. Recommend that if doing outside you wait for rain to stop so with a bit of luck you will be able to try it out in June☔️
Anjuli_Bai
You can also take the round end of a hammer head and pound a bit.
Loulabelle
Thank you for all the advice ladies. I will look into the Grishkos Sheila, DD has had different Grishkos before and liked them so they may be an option.
yulpany
I am currently wearing grishko 2007 pro 6xx hard shank with a sleek heel and medium-high arch. Is there any other grishko shoe that anyone can recommend? Like maybe vaganova or either mayas? I am unable to fit these other shoes because my local store only stocks 2007s. Grishko UK
HI Yulpany, even if your local store only stocks 2007, they should be prepared to order in a few pairs of vaganova's to try. That is the deal with our stockists- they don't have to stock the Vaganova as it is a more unusual shoe, but they should offer to get them in for you to try, and they can send any that you don't buy back to us, the distributors. - you may have to pay them a postage charge. Do send me aPM and let me know which store it is. I may be able to suggest another!
straceydor
My DD has just been fitted for her first pointe shoes. She was so excited. what does the D SO132 Suprima mean they are a BLOCH size
Anna C
The D is probably width fitting. The SO132 Suprima is the Model number and name. How exciting, getting your first pair of pointes is an occasion to remember!
straceydor
yes it was for her spannerandpony. I took lots of photos . I have just got to pluck up the courage to darn the tops. Spoiling the perfect silk is daunting
Anna C
I must admit I used stick on suede pads for the first few pairs; dd grew out of them long before the shoes started to die!
Anjuli_Bai
It used to be - don't know if it still is - that the numbers stamped inside the pointe shoes identified the cobbler. I always wore Capezio and always looked for the cobbler who's product seemed to suit me best.

straceydor
first thing I told my daughter taxi4ballet. I wouldn't let her even sleep in them without her teachers ok.
