The Royal Academy of Dance is pleased to announce a whole host of summer schools and classes designed for adults and young people. Develop your dancing skills, improve your fitness and meet new people at one of our brilliant programmes taking place between July and August 2023.

Adult Ballet and Pilates Summer Course

This summer, enjoy five evenings of classes in ballet technique and Pilates. Suitable for dancers aged 18+. Get ready to curate your own dance program this summer with the Adult Ballet and Pilates Summer Course. Choose from three levels of classical ballet classes that cater to your experience and take your technique to the next level. You will build upon your knowledge and understanding as the week progresses, with expert coaching from our experienced teachers. You can also combine your ballet technique class with a Pilates class, or take Pilates as a standalone class.

Elite Syncopations Adult Repertoire Workshop

Join us for this workshop inspired by Scott Joplin’s composition, Elite Syncopations. Suitable for dancers aged 18+. Led by the renowned Damien Lee Stirk, this workshop features live piano accompaniment and offers two different levels to choose from. Silver Swans Focus on Classical

Experience daily classes in ballet technique and repertoire in a programme designed for those aged 55+.

Over five days, you'll have the opportunity to refine your skills and deepen your understanding of classical ballet and repertoire. With expert guidance from experienced teachers, you'll progress steadily towards an informal studio sharing on the final day of the course, where you can showcase the repertoire learnt across the week to friends and family. With places still available in Level 1, don't miss the chance to elevate your ballet technique this summer.

Silver Swans Summer School

Experience an immersive week of dance and movement for those aged 55+. Includes a West End theatre trip and the chance to perform.

We still have places in Level 1 for our brand new Silver Swans Summer School! Immerse yourself in the grace and beauty of ballet technique, repertoire, and Pilates classes, alongside fun-filled Move to the Musicals workshops throughout the week. With the opportunity to perform for your loved ones in the Aud Jebsen Studio Theatre, this summer school promises to be a memorable and enriching experience. To top it all off, you'll attend a West End matinee performance of Mamma Mia, making for a perfect ending to your week!

Adult Contemporary Dance and Yoga Summer Course in partnership with The Place

This week-long series of two-hour sessions is open to any level and ability. Delivered by expert practitioner and experienced dance artist, Jenny Hayes, and featuring live musical accompaniment, you can expect a playful fusion of contemporary dance technique and yoga, building on sequences each evening so that you finish the week with a greater understanding of your body and both movement forms.

Senior Summer School

Book now to experience ballet, repertoire, musical theatre, contemporary techniques, performance opportunities and a theatre trip. Suitable for dancers studying Intermediate and above or equivalent. This intensive week-long program is tailored for dancers studying Intermediate and above or equivalent. You will experience a range of dance styles, visit Sadler’s Wells theatre to watch Romeo and Juliet performed by Matthew Bourne’s company, meet top professionals in the industry and have a chance to perform to friends and family on the last day of the course. The Senior Summer School is a fantastic opportunity to challenge yourself, meet like-minded dancers, and experience training from world-renowned teachers and professionals. Adult Sleeping Beauty Repertoire Weekend Intensive

An intensive weekend exploring the technical and dramatic challenges of performing Sleeping Beauty. Suitable for dancers aged 18+.

Over two days, experience the technical and dramatic challenges required to bring this beloved classical ballet to life. On the last day, showcase your newfound skills and invite your loved ones to an informal sharing of the repertoire. Delivered by expert teachers, this immersive weekend promises to transport you to a world of grace, elegance, and enchantment, as you delve into the intricacies of the Sleeping Beauty repertoire.

Summer Intensive Examination Syllabus and Pilates Course

Join us for expert RAD Vocational Graded Syllabus coaching and combine with an option Pilates class.

This week-long intensive programme is designed for dancers aged 11 and above who are currently studying the RAD Vocational Graded syllabus. Our experienced tutors will provide expert coaching to help you perfect your technique and prepare you for your examination.

You can combine your syllabi class with a Pilates class to enhance your strength and precision, or take Pilates as a standalone class.

This is brilliant stuff from the RAD. 
I was on the waiting list for their Silver Swans classical summer course as the Improvers course was already full….though now believe they’ve opened a second course at this level? 
Meanwhile the teacher on our regular weekly City Lit course Alexander Simpkins has just offered a summer Rep course ….in the same week…. so I have registered for that now. But it’s really great that RAD are now offering summer courses for us much older dancers!! 
 

Anybody else not on a course yet but wanting one or even an additional one could have a look at the City Lit website as I believe another teacher( I will look up her name)  is offering a summer Rep course in the week before the RAD one. It’s not aimed at older people though. 
This course is run by Dilek Taptik 

and is from 11th to 14th July for two hours every morning.
