Balletfanp Posted May 26, 2022 Posted May 26, 2022 Apologies if this is the wrong place to post it, or if it has already been posted, but the gala is being live streamed on Saturday - details here:- https://oopperabaletti.fi/en/live/finnish-national-ballets-centenary-gala/ From the website:- “The centenary celebrations of the Finnish National Ballet will culminate at the end of May in the Centenary Gala, which puts dancers centre stage. The stars of the Finnish National Ballet will be joined onstage by dazzling guest artists. Maria Baranova from Bavarian State Opera Ballet, lead principal dancer at the Finnish National Ballet from 2011 to 2015, performs together with Vadim Muntagirov, principal dancer at the Royal Ballet in London. Atte Kilpinen, currently on loan from the Finnish National Ballet at Hamburg Ballet, will also visit his home company. In addition to this, the gala will feature the Chorus of the Finnish National Opera and all the students of the Ballet School of the Finnish National Ballet from the youngest beginners to recent graduates of vocational education. The Orchestra of the Finnish National Opera will be conducted by Benjamin Pope. The gala repertoire takes a look at the past, present and future of the Finnish National Ballet, as well as revealing tantalising glimpses of the upcoming season. The event will be presented by Jorma Uotinen, Artistic Director of the Ballet from 1992 to 2001, and the current Artistic Director Madeleine Onne, who bids farewell to the company at the end of the spring season.” 3 3
capybara Posted May 26, 2022 Posted May 26, 2022 Presumably starting at 4.40pm for 5.00pm UK time as Finland is two hours ahead of us? 1
Mona Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 The Finnish National Ballet livestreams are usually available afterwards on their Stage24 page. There are currently several full length ballets and operas there, including a recording of Jorma Elo’s new ballet Sibelius and David McAllister’s new Swan Lake. It’s all free, and most recorded performances are available for six months. https://oopperabaletti.fi/en/stage24/ 5 4
Wanja Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Thank you very much for this link, Mona. That's amazing. I have never seen the Finnish National Ballet but I will have a "Finnish weekend" and watch some of these videos. Thank you! 1
Balletfanp Posted May 28, 2022 Author Posted May 28, 2022 I watched it live earlier on but I guess there may be a delay before it appears on the site.
Mona Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 They posted on Instagram that they need to fix some technical issues with the livestream recording but after that the gala will be added to the streaming site. So it will probably take a few days. By the way, they seem to be livestreaming the Helsinki International Ballet Competition finals and gala next weekend. 1 1
Balletfanp Posted May 30, 2022 Author Posted May 30, 2022 It’s available now. I haven’t tried playing it yet.
Rob S Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Question for anyone that saw it....what is the name of the move that Muntagirov did at the end of his piece as the curtain came down....asking for an aquaintance....
Rob S Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 It's what I do when I go to put a dvd in the player under the telly, I had no idea it would have a name either 3
art_enthusiast Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 "The pas de deux from the ballet Onegin has been removed from the recording due to copyright reasons." Shame! 1
