Jan McNulty
Dreadfully sad news today that opera singer Jessye Norman has passed away at the age of 74: https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/jessye-norman-dead-grammy-award-20376488?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar&fbclid=IwAR0rMQLKHonxw5IEiHvLQaNHQ03gqfSsrS2TbDx5DmHmv4ESdqkTflMFvTg
Lizbie1
Rather shocking news: a genuine once-in-several-generations singer who could do pretty much anything she turned her hand to. Her Gretchen am Spinnrade takes me by surprise every time:

Two Pigeons
I only ever saw her 'live' once when she sang 'I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls' in the most glorious grey frock at the gala for the Queen's 60th birthday. She was just fabulous and I gave never forgotten it. As I remember it she lived in London at the time and often attend ballet performances. She will be much missed.
Two Pigeons
Just rewatched it on YouTube. As unbelievably wonderful as I remember. Then she was joined by a mezzo and chorus as they sang from Scott Jopling's Treemonisha. Equally terrific in a totally different way.
alison
BBC Radio 3's In Tune programme this evening spent the first half hour in a tribute to her (with contributions from Daniel Barenboim, Renee Fleming and Angel Blue), and is continuing to do so throughout the evening. Such a marvellous voice.
Ivy Lin
She'll be missed. Here's my own (admittedly very small) story about Jessye: https://humbledandoverwhelmed.blogspot.com/2019/10/rip-jessye-norman.html
