Rosie Kay Dance Company OFFSITE: YEOMANRY HOUSE

5 SOLDIERS: The Body is the Frontline

Thursday 7 - Saturday 9 September
Tickets: £20 (£15 concessions: along with regular concessions, also available for members of the Armed Forces)

In 2008, Birmingham based choreographer Rosie Kay joined the 4th Battalion The Rifles, to watch and participate in full battle exercises, and visited the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre for our Armed Forces. What came of these observations is an award-winning, five-star work, performed offsite at Yeomanry House, Bloomsbury.

5 SOLDIERS offers no moral stance on war. Instead, through Kay’s trademark intense physical and athletic dance theatre, it questions what it is that we ask of our soldiers and explores how the human body remains essential to war, even in the 21st century,

5 SOLDIERS: The Body is the Frontline is part of Sadler’s Wells’ regular programme of performances offsite

SADLER’S WELLS DEBUT

Pavement

Friday 17 & Saturday 18 November

Tickets: £20

Sadler’s Wells Debut offers a chance to discover the work of choreographers new to Sadler’s Wells, highlighting rising artists on the international dance scene with a special ticket price and a free post-show talk. This season introduces New York based dancer and choreographer Kyle Abraham, who combines balletic and hip hop movements in his trademark, interdisciplinary style, which he typically refers to as a 'post-modern gumbo'. He has created work for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and New York City Ballet’s Wendy Whelan, as well as for his own company Abraham.In.Motion, who perform at Sadler’s Wells for the first time.

Inspired by the 1991 John Singleton film, Boyz N The Hood, the writings of American civil rights activist W.E.B. Du Bois and Abraham’s own childhood, Pavement takes seven dancers through a culture plagued by discrimination and genocide in Pittsburgh’s historically black neighbourhoods, set to an eclectic mix of Bach, Benjamin Britten, Sam Cooke and Donny Hathaway.

As usual - diverse opinions on the forum!  I have just read the list and thought oh good, money saved, so little I really want to see - just Akram Khan's Giselle and one of the BRB programmes.
