Hi

just wondering if anyone has experience of funding at schools like the Hammond. Can you get good burseries/funding without going through the music and dance awards which are soley based om ballet- if your child is talented in something other than classical dance, like singing/acting/and or dance?

Thank you in advance

Hi Michelle

I think Hammond do have bursaries that aren't MDS. As well as the forum chaperone suggests it may be worth looking on the Doing Dance part of this forum and searching there. Maybe a moderator could move this question to there?

Hi Michelle,

I've moved your query to Doing Dance as you may get some more responses there.

Also, as SarahW suggests it is well worth using the search facility on the Doing Dance forum as there have been discussions about bursaries in the past.

Hi Michelle, my dd is starting at The Hammond in September on a school bursary. She is very strong in all genres (dancing singing & acting) and less classical, so we always knew an MDS was unlikely. Saying that she has since been offered an MDS from the waiting list but we are sticking with the bursary. Hope that helps :-)

Hi Michelle,

Just to clarify on your original question, all MDS awards and bursaries are handed out after the final audition (MDS usually only for years 7&8 applicants) but bursaries can be offered to applicants for any year in the lower school. You are correct that MDS awards are usually made to the students with the most classical potential, but Hammond does also offer bursaries to those who are much more 'all rounders' and the mix of students at Hammond, and even those just on the dance course is much more varied than some of the other vocational schools. If you child is a great all rounder but may not be particularly classical, they may well have a very good chance of a bursary at Hammond! Good Luck.
