  3. No, I went the other way! :-) Also purely my own 2p worth - I don't always equate 'new audience' with 'younger audience'. Using myself as an example, I moved on from rock gigs and festivals, to something slightly more sedate (and certainly drier), in my 40's. Perhaps they should be targeting the 35+ age group, rather than the 14+ age group, for that elusive 'new' audience... Yes, its great seeing younger people at the ballet - but a lot of those may have been brought by their parents, rather than their own volition
  4. OK, this is the casting for the photo call. Its not set in stone, as there are often adjustments. This will be 'second cast' (ie not the cast on Thursday evening) - going to be an exciting day! 5. Place am order with your local newsagent, and they can probably get it in for you. Then either deliver it with your daily paper, or keep it for you in the shop, if you don't get a delivery
  6. yes, almost guiltily for the tenner ticket - and very yes, about Prog 2. It was fab!
  7. Yes, in Apollo, and most magnificently in 'Blanc'
  8. oh - and therewas a lovely flower throw last night too, at the end of Suite en blanc! Dancers looked slightly bewildered, but delighted at the same time
  9. Begona was absolutely scrumptious; and did two roles (last night and tonight she was an unexpected Terpsichore replacing Fernanda Oliveira, whereas the rehearsal (and opening night I assume) Calliope). And for just a tenner! My, my. Whilst this was great for my wallet, as I was in the Stalls tonight (Saturday that is) and Dress Circle before that, as others have said it is sad that such a TERRIFIC bill wasn't more popular. I love Apollo, and I think the ENB casts i've seen perform it have certainly done it justice. For the vast majority though - it was 'Suite en blanc' that was the crowd pleaser - and I certainly can't blame them, as I loved it too! Especially the Sieste section, 'Cigarette', the pas de deux and 'Flute' - which was utterly marvellously danced tonight by Daria Klimentova (in both, accompanied by Vadim Muntagirov in the pas de deux). Jeux was also enjoyable, though I wasn't keen on the lighting, as the cast seemed to drift in and out of bright or dark (or black) patches. Loved the choregraphy though - and the joke at the end with the returned tennis ball.
  10. You could always sit in the bar, when the one you don't like is on. Its what I do when Pierot Luniaire (sp??) is on! :-)
  11. I'll confess that the first time I went to a mixed bill, was because a) they offered me cheap tickets as an enticement to a relative newbie and my fave dancer was dancing. Now I go (perhaps slightly more as an aficiando these days) simply to see LOTS of top dancers in one night. Also, many of the short works have become favourites. So I'm an easy sell. To sell to non-regulars, I guess you have to hang it on some sort of gimick - a theme, some famous faces (i.e. known to the non-ballet goer) as guests and/or collaborators. Saying that, there isn't a guarantee to sell out even then. Chroma had hints of this, but it was only after the rave reviews and the buzz therefore generated that it really took off (aided by some judicious cheap tix to a lot of students and White Stripes fans perhaps!). Think if you could find the magic formula, you could name your own (though probably discounted) price!! :-)
  12. Thanks Aileen - Apollo is such a joy to shoot, I could almost have gone home after that!

  14. Sounds like you got fobbed off with a 'standard' letter, that didn't really address your own communication to them. Dealing with large organisations, the response you get often indicates theat your letter to them, was barely read, just skimmed for a few keywords that could be gleaned in order to pick an 'appropriate' (though they rarely are) standard response. Poor effort, in other words.

  16. he is the fella whose dreadful show, almost single-handedly brought down 6Music (my favourite radio station). His leaving, left the way open for it to be saved by listener power! You may guess - I'm not a fan!
  17. You won't (unless lucky) get a ticket for Alice now anyway, as its sold out. But yes, go see the ENB Beyond Ballet Russes bills - they are terrific. I love 'Alice' too mind - all 3 dancers playing the lead are, in their own ways, utterly superb
  18. Well, if ever there was an example of how to grasp the nettle of opportunity, there was a masterclass in it from Beatriz Stix-Brunell in Saturday's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. I can't recall a more assured debut in a 3-act ballet before, not even from seasoned Principals. Beatriz danced the whole 3 acts like this was her 3rd or 4th revival, not her debut. When she smiled, hers outdid the Cheshire Cat - but this was only one element in a multi-faceted acting performance; joy, fear, surprise, marvel, mystification, delight, annoyance, frustration, humour - all radiated out. Her dancing shone, the steps flowed naturally out of her, allowing a full on characterisation to come through, naturally through the steps, and a personality OF Alice. It was nothing short of astonishingly accomplished. I can only add that I think we're lucky to have her here in London, and earnestly hope that the RB hang on to her. Hope to see many more performances, in many roles, from this young dancer, whose potential I reckon is almost limitless. As someone else said - we saw a star being born. I feel privileged to have been there to see it.

  20. 12noon - James Hay was Doormouse, Liam Scarlett March Hare 14.00 - certainly looked like both casts, though with injured from original casting, can't be ceratin 17.30 - interview was 10-15 mins, then they started some highlights from throughout the day, until the McGregot bit (which I missed, as had to leave to go to the Coliseum) @Sim - I think the plan is to put some highlights on their Youtube channel - though what, and how much of each, I can't guess
  21. Fantastic stuff. The live rehearsals fascinating, and the 'filler' clips are many I've not gotten round to watching before. Interesting interviews too (though George Lamb not a fave of mine, he nearly brought down 6Music!!) Not getting much work done!!
