  1. BM2 the APs just train with the full-time Ballet West staff...only the actual students of Ballet West take the exams
  2. I just think as a student at one of the schools it is something to work towards and look forwards too...a masterclass with any ex-principal is exciting and he has been a part of the English as well as American and French ballet worlds it seems! I wouldn't think of it as a "distraction" from day to day training....obviously normal classes are extremely important, but this is a unique an opportunity to learn something new from a different teacher with a lot of admirable experience, and mix with other students in a different performance environment to YBDY? However I do think it's sad that the actual YBDY doesn't seem to be happening this year, as with the loss of Ms. Stock I can't think of a better way to honor her and all she did for many young dancers then to hold the real competition that she established ...
  3. Although I'm sure many dancers will be disappointed about missing out on YBDY, (if it's not actually happening this coming year), this is also a very exciting, new program! It will be extremely interesting for the 6th formers of these top ballet schools to mix and take class together...it seems a very unique opportunity as they do not often get the chance to dance together and watch each-others performances! (in a non-competition setting) (For the ones chosen to go of course, I assume it will be quite selective, however still exciting to hear about or watch even if not chosen to go!)
  4. Am I correct in thinking that ENB does NOT offer academics in the form of A levels? I understand students graduate with a Diploma in Dance which is an education in it's own right, but in terms of actual school classes such as Maths, English etc, it is not an option available? I've searched their website to confirm this but still wasn't 100% sure...
  5. Thanks so much to all of you for the lovely advice! We'll see how it goes haha x
  6. Thanks so much mimi'smom!! That seems ty be advertising the one in August...is there one in October as well??? Or are they different things? x
  7. Thanks dramascientist should I just use like a mild detergent?
  8. I can't seem to find any information about the Morroco workshop in October? Does anyone have a link to some sort of information, or know anything about it? I'm sure it's probably out of the budget but it would be nice to look into it as I missed out on the most recent Master Class. Not sure if anything's been released about it yet though?
  9. Thanks so much Bluebird22 I will try and wash it in my tub at home! It's just so big though :/ And I hadn't even thought of using a spray! That's brilliant! Thanks again
  10. I have a white practice tutu, and over the years of wearing it, it has started to look a bit grungy and more grey/brown than white. It has no embellishments, and no leotard body attached to it, and I was wondering how I should clean it? Some people have suggested dry cleaning...is that safe? Thanks in advance!
  11. Wow after reading all this i feel massively tall at 15 and 5.6 going on 5.7! And I seem to be still growing... that shouldn't me a MAJOR problem should it? I don't feel that tall as a dancer but maybe I am compared to the rest of the population?
  12. I currently attend the sessions in Glasgow...we are approaching our final class. It has been a wonderful experience! I'd say the standard ranges throughout the class but the teachers are absolutely wonderful and I have learned a lot. We dance from 11:00 to about 3:00, with a jazz class in the morning followed by ballet, then repertoire. I will be continuing next year for sure, though I will be juggling this with classes in Birmingham for RBS SAs! The performance with the Ballet West school and company was a really good performance experience, as well as the chance to watch principle dancers from side of stage! There are some extremely talented students currently studying at Ballet West for 6th form. I definitely recommend APs for any aspiring dancer... there is a lot to learn from these classes, and I've enjoyed every minute I've spent with them. I traveled the farthest along with another girl from the Lake District, almost 2 hours by train I think, and though it's a long way to travel I feel it was worth it. On the side I will definitly look into attending Ballet West for 6th form based n the quality of teaching! Hope this helps!
  13. Fingers crossed for your DD Huddsballetmum! Hope everything works out what year is she auditioning for?
  14. I haven't ever heard anything about EYB before....has anyone previously been a part of it and has an opinion? It seems like a great way to gain performance experience!
  15. That when you realize that ballet is what you were meant to do, no class or performance is ever the same again. Every perfect balance... the moment when you nail that seemingly impossible triple pirouette...when you a finish a jump combination that's left you feeling like you have wings...it all sounds a bit crazy I know, but its all those little things that come together, and, well, make you whole. They never tell you that.
  16. Hi Jazzpaws I think THIS is the thread on SAs...there's just not much on it yet.
  17. I agree Billyelliott the AD was extremely welcoming and warm and the audition in general was just very friendly...I found it easy to dance my best as my nerves were put to rest upon walking in and hearing Mr. Parker say "Just show us how much you love to dance." A great experience all in all! Would very willingly do it again. Massive congrats to your DS for earning a place and best wishes for his future career! And I feel the same way taxi4ballet! Don't know if I could actually handle the craziness of audition season all over again! It was incredibly draining
  18. Thank you dtadmin! Sorry I must have missed that... It is absolutely beautiful and the class was lovely! Fingers crossed for your DD...hope she gets in!
  19. Just to clarify having already auditioned THIS year, it wouldn't be an option to audition again? Or is it really an open audition, even if you've already applied for a course commencing in September 2013 and been turned down? To be honest I would love to go just to dance in that beautiful studio again! It was a lovely class...but I'm not sure if they'll allow previous applicants from this year to re-audition?
  20. Just wanted to start a thread on Senior Associates commencing in September this year...If there is another thread already started on the topic of RBS SAs, please let me know, but I couldn't find one. Anyways, I will be starting as a Year 11 SA this September and I am curious as to what to expect, previous experiences, etc. It would be lovely to hear from people with DDs or DSs who have already completed the course, or are currently attending it. I really am not sure what it will be like...so if anyone would like to post their thoughts or experiences, it would be much appreciated! Again, please link me to a thread if there has already been one started! Thanks in advance!
  21. I had a letter a few days ago reconfirming that i want to stay on the waiting list, though there are currently no spots available? (for upper school WL) if thats any help!
  22. Thanks so much for all of your help to both of you! Looking forward to starting SAs in the autumn
