  1. Anyway, i've never seen Vadim dance before. Are there any particular roles in the RB rep that he would be ideally suited to? Has he done any Macmillan at ENB?
  2. There are lots of messages from RB dancers on twitter welcoming him, so there seems to be lots of goodwill. I also know of dancers who have left quite abruptly (Dawid being one) and at the end of the day, this is their job. If he feels it is best for him to start straight away, than that's what he should do.
  3. People leave jobs all the time. Wonder what else he will be cast in, other than SB and WT? I really like the casting for Serenade, SV and DGV so I hope that isn't changed, but the dream triple bill hasn't been cast mush yet, so I assume that.
  4. It's not rude. It's what I expect to happen when someone hands their notice in, as in my present industry, it is standard practice. People are speculating, they are not accusing.
  5. Maybe he wants to? I know that when i've got new jobs I always hate having to work my notice period and am desperate to get started.
  6. Tamara must be disappointed. Good move for him, probably a lot more money, and a wider repertoire to explore.
  7. I think people have over dramatised some of the recent departures, to be honest. Obviously there were issues with Johan and Alina, which happen in every company or workplace, and the Sergei thing was quite dramatic, but he has shown himself to be quite an unpredictable character elsewhere, so in hindsight it doesn't seem that surprising and perhaps the RB just wasn't the right fit for him. Rojo had been talking for ages about being an AD, so her departure wasn't surprising, and given she has returned to guest with them, I would be surprised if there was animosity between her and the RB. Benjamin's retirement was not a surprise to anyone, given she was 49, and Mara was 40 and a new mother, so, again, at the age when people retire.
  8. Ha ha we should. I don't think i'd get flustered because i'm intimidated or anything, it would just be very weird. I go to a lot of tennis tournaments, and often see players walking around between courts, or after matches, and i've never once felt tempted to talk to them or ask them for an autograph or anything. I have no real interest in speaking to them, and the dynamic is instantly weird because you don't know each other, but you know who they are and they know you know who they are, and it would just feel weird.
  9. Sorry "The latest dancer to head for the door is Dawid Trzensimiech, marked out by critics as one of the company’s most promising soloists. He resigned from the company on Thursday, telling friends he was unhappy at what he felt to be “a lack of care and coaching” at Covent Garden."
  10. Yeah seems like the media will blow it out of proportion too, though the lack of a lunch break stuff is pretty shocking.
  11. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/theatre/dance/10597060/Royal-Ballet-faces-new-revolt-from-dancers-over-overwork.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
  12. I don't think it is unreasonable to wait for someone at the stage door at all, and I don't think dancers would be justified in complaining about it. They have a public job and the stage door is technically still part of their workplace. They must expect it. Obviously it would be different if people were following them home. And I think people refer to dancers by their first name because they can't be bothered to write or use the, usually longer, surname. Pavlova, Fonteyn or Nijinksy may have found it rude or insulting, but it's a different time now and i'd be surprised if anyone cares.
  13. They are probably recognised or asked for autographs so rarely in their daily lives it is probably a bit of a thrill when it happens. I can imagine it's slightly more annoying for people like Brad Pitt or Prince William etc
  14. I think to be fair he was healthy for the whole 2012-2013 season. If I remember correctly he was unlucky on a few occasions that his partners were injured and he therefore couldn't dance.
  15. Yeah I don't know what i'd say. "great performance, well done" and then stand there awkwardly while I try and think of something else.
  16. "I went round to the stage door afterwards, which is not something I usually do, but I wanted to tell them what a wonderful afternoon it had been. They were both absolutely charming which was a perfect end to the experience". A bit off topic, but are there usually people waiting at the stage door after a performance? I've never even considered doing it, but, if so, it must be nice for the dancers (or annoying, if they just want to get home).
  17. Must be, as he is scheduled to dance with Lamb. Very injury prone guy.
  18. I haven't seen Acosta in Giselle but i've seen the ballet a few times and in my experience Giselle always overshadows Albrecht. It's such a thankless role for a man
  19. Wow, that must have been tough for Sarah, debuting in a big role, but of course they probably dance together enough to be comfortable and familiar with each other. Anyone know what happened to Rupert? Seeing Lamb on Saturday and I don't really mind who her partner is.
  20. It's not a pronunciation thing, but I had no idea what 'the gods' were the first time someone said it to me. I just smiled and hoped I didn't look stupid.
