  1. @Emeralds indeed it is, I'm surprised as thought he'd keep going until Milan and didn't expect a mid-Olympic cycle retirement! Maybe the lack of a medal at the most recent World Championships played into it... a real shame though, his artistry will be much missed.
  2. Thanks everyone for the reassurance, I'm going to be brave and make myself go to the stage door after Winter's Tale on the 27th and ask him to sign the book 😁
  3. @Jake If it’s any consolation I’ve had exactly the same dilemma re stage door post show - I’ve brought my copy of Vadim’s book with me all three Swan Lake’s I’ve seen him in this year, yet never quite plucked up the courage to go to the stage door and ask him to sign it! I always worry I’d be too star-struck and unable to articulate my gratitude for his spectacular performance 😅
  4. What an evening that was! Simply sublime. So pleased I managed to snag a last-minute ticket. I must admit I didn't get much sleep last night as I was on such a high following the performance! Fumi was just divine (those arms!!), and her partnership with Vadim was absolutely spectacular. I won't say anymore as others have already summarised my thoughts and feelings perfectly, but just WOW. That was my fourth and final Swan Lake and it was definitely a case of saving the best until last. And the kiss during the red run! Just lovely. Feeling very happy (albeit tired!) this morning.
  5. @hephaistion03 pretty sure Mamillius is a child in the Winter’s Tale, so I’d imagine Rafferty is one of the White Lodge students… do correct me if not!
  6. They also seem to be attempting to launch a new 'The Royal Ballet and Opera' page with some technical difficulty... hopefully everything will be fixed soon!
  7. Hi all, I'm after 1 x 1 x SCS or Balcony Centre D Standing for the performance The Winter's Tale on 27 May 7pm. Please do drop me a message if you have a spare ticket. Thank you!
  8. Just spotted this on instagram so thought I'd share as it sounds very exciting... It looks like Vadim has been working with Latvian Figure Skater Deniss Vasilijevs (European Bronze medallist, 2x Olympian) on a new skating programme set to 'La Bayadère'! Deniss shared this photo from his instagram account - what a fantastic opportunity for him to get to work with Vadim (and vice versa). I can't wait to see the finished product! Timing-wise I assume this will be a competitive programme for Deniss next season (this is prime 'next season choreography' time), so unfortunately we will likely have to wait until around September to see the finished product! I've been a figure skating fan for many years (far longer than I've been following ballet!) so this is absolutely wonderful and so exciting to see.
  9. Really enjoyed tonight (and glad I decided to see this triple bill again) - also my first experience standing at the ROH so that was good fun! Thoroughly enjoyed Dances Concertantes, Isabella Gasparini was brilliant and I thought Giacomo Rovero stood out too. A real 'feel good' ballet and one I hope they do more frequently as it's so fun. I didn't like Different Drummer the first time I saw it, but being a bit closer and being able to see a bit more of the acting and facial expressions made it a bit easier to follow the story. Can't fault Francesca and Marcelino's performance at all, they were both brilliant - just not my cup of tea. Requiem was just sublime, made me feel quite emotional. It was the sole reason I decided to see this triple bill again and I'm so glad I did, Sarah, William and Melissa were all fabulous, as was the singing. I could watch it over and over and over again - it got a fabulous response from the audience at the end as well, which was well deserved! I hope it looked as good on the cinema screen as it did live!
  10. Really looking forward to seeing Requiem again - I went to opening night March and was so moved by it that I've spent the whole day deciding whether or not to snag a last-minute ticket to see it again... In the end I did! I've never seen Sarah live so very much looking forward to it.
  11. As someone who grew up in Bournemouth, this gave me a good giggle 🤣
  12. Hi Chris, is this still available? Would love to take it if so. Ignore me, sorry! Have found one elsewhere.
  13. Feeling on such a high after the performance tonight. Marianela and Vadim were on another level as always, but they seemed to be even better than opening night, which I didn't think was possible! I feel privileged to have been able to witness them dance, such a wonderful partnership and you can see the care and trust they have built between them. Just remarkable. Also wanted to give a shoutout to Luca Acri who I thought was an excellent Benno, he seemed more confident this time around than opening night and I thoroughly enjoyed his characterisation. All I have to say is bravo!!
  14. @Dawnstar I didn't find it too bad actually! Although on reflection I wish I'd stuck with C17 as the pillar was a bit more obstructive than the photo, as you said. I think being on the left for Swan Lake is better as you still get the beautiful scenery in Act 1 and Act 3, and I found there were only a few moments during the solos and various pas de deux where the dancers completely disappeared from view. The restriction definitely took away from the overall impact of the corps during the lake scenes, but that didn't bother me too much as that wasn't the main thing I wanted to see tonight. I was slightly concerned I wasn't going to be able to see the famous fouetté sequence and Vadim's trademark double-double tours in Act 3 (which is my absolute favourite part of the whole ballet), but I could see them fine. The thing I found most annoying was the person sitting on my left continually leant forward throughout the entire show blocking my view which made it worse... But all in all, it was okay, and I got the acting I wanted which was the main thing! Marianela and Vadim were just incredible, feeling very happy and lucky to have witnessed such an amazing performance!
  15. @Dawnstar Thank you, appreciate the honesty - wasn't expecting it to be much better but after the ticket palaver, I'm just glad to still get the close-up views I was after.
  16. @Dawnstar that was exactly what I was trying to do - have put some of it towards a good seat for one of the Ashton triples in June instead. I've got C23 still in the stalls circle as the view looked ever so slightly better being further around, shall assess tomorrow whether I've made the right decision or not!
  17. @Dawnstar totally missed that, thanks! Lesson well and truly learnt 🤣
  18. Looks like the casting for both the Ashton triple bills are up on the ROH website now: LES RENDEZVOUS / THE DREAM / RHAPSODY THE DREAM / SHORT WORKS / RHAPSODY
  19. I just got a slightly better ticket in my basket for Swan Lake tomorrow so cancelled my existing ticket, and then went to buy the new one and it had disappeared so now I can't go at all... absolutely gutted!!! Edit: Managed to get the ticket I wanted eventually as it reappeared but have now wasted £8 on admin fees, nightmare!
  20. That's very helpful, thank you - think I'll stick with my current ticket in that case then as I've already seen it once and really wanted more of the acting side of things this time.
  21. Ah okay, thanks Alison! Much appreciated - may try and nab something different during Friday rush tomorrow in that case.
  22. Hi all, Bit of a strange one for my first post here (also not sure if this is in the correct forum, sorry - please do move if not!) I'm a fairly new ballet fan, and I went to the opening night of Swan Lake in March and enjoyed myself so much that I have bought a last-minute ticket to go and see it again on Saturday evening. I wanted to be closer to the front to see a bit more of the acting side of things this time as was way up in the Amphitheatre last time, but the only ticket I could grab was a restricted view (it's seat C17 in the Stalls). It looks from the photo on the website that the view isn't actually that restricted at all, but was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on how much of the performance I'm likely to miss? Many thanks!
