  1. Hi, I will give you my experiences and views, but they are my views. I have a daughter aged 8, who is at grade 2 in ballet and last exam got 97%. We went to the royal ballet insight day last year, which my dd loved, I watched the class all really basic things were done, nothing hard at all, they concentrate on posture, use of the floor, very few stretches, it was a lovely class to watch, and after that we both agreed to do the ja audition. So we did. The audition, there were lots and lots of children auditioning for very few places, while waiting the other children there could put there legs in place which I'm sure they should not be! Again the audition was very basic, actually very few dancing bits in it, it was all about the body, the shape, the turnout, the leg length, then musicality, overall a nice experience but they are not looking or amazing dancers, they are looking for a dancer they can train into a ballerina. Sadly my dd did not make it this time, but made it to the short waiting list, I certainly would audition again, but just beware there are very few places and think you need to get your child ready for that, as they fall in love with the school when they get there!, After that we auditioned for tring parks classical ballet accademy, which my dd did get into, she loves every minute of it, it's all on technique and sometimes they spend a lot of time just on one step! Good luck, these classes are all really good experience and I'm she my dd would not change auditioning for the world as she did love it, but if you are going to do it, definitely do the insight day, as it shows you what sort of things they do. But beware its a roller coaster you cannot get off once on!,,,
  2. Good luck to anyone starting at cba tomorrow, anybody know how the classes work, how many students are in the class?
  3. Hi just another question before I put the entree in, has anyone ever done these award before, do yo know what happens, do a lot of people enter, are they hard, Thanks in advance
  4. Just to let you all know, Mary from tring told me there was no Christmas weekend this year, only Easter, as I was asking about it, she said they break up too late this year to do it x
  5. I know I have left if to the last minute, maybe I should just go to the dance shop x thanks anyway x
  6. Has anybody got any character shoes in a size 13 my dd is doing trings summer school on Monday and needs some character shoes, many thanks
  7. Thanks everyone for your support and advice, but it now gets worse, now my dd tap teacher had now asked her to do the grade and grade above, I really don't know if to laugh or cry, as the same ladies child is in that class! Thankgod we are near the end of term, hopefully in September if will all of calmed down xx
  8. Moomin, my dd only has 1 grade 2 class there, so unless I take her to another school, which. Don't want to, that's why she does the grade above, but she also has a pl covering grade 3 in that class x
  9. You are all so right, and thankyou, think I just needed a bit of reassurance I was doing the right thing x
  10. Pups mum, that was one of my concerns that my dd would slow down the class, but after watching it today, it was not the case, she kept up with the rest of the class 100%, my dd also has a private lesson a week and in the lesson her ballet teacher seems to have brought her up to the standard of the rest of he grade 3 class, I really do think jealousy is the problem! X
  11. Hi, yes I am the lady who the examiner said she was very special, my dd is aware of the ladies problem, as the lady has also told my daughters he should not be in that class, my dd does not seem bothered, as she is so focused what she wants to do, her teacher is very much I want you in the grade 3 class, I just spend so much time at the dance school, and really hate atmospheres or upsetting someone. X think some dance mums can just be the worse!
  12. Please help or advise My 8 year old daughter has just done her grade 1 exam, and got an amazing result of 97% , and she has always gone into her ballet class and the one above, she she was doing grade 1 and 2, now since she has done her exam, her ballet teacher told her to do grade 2 and 3, which was fine with us as that has always been the done thing, but one of the parents in the grade 3 class has completely gone off on one. About my 8 year old daughter going into a class with her 11 year old daughter, I watched the class today, and my dd, kept up with all the exercises and fitted in well within the class, I'm not quite sure what to do, do I take her out of the class even though my dd has been doing in for the past 4 weeks, and in my eyes kept up with the class and was just as good, or to save an atmosphere do I stop her doing the class above??
  13. My dd exam results came today, she got a distinction with 97 marks! Woooow proud mummy.com x
  14. Hi, we got our letter this morning, they don't really need anything special, just ballet shoes, tap and character, you will prob get your letter in next couple of days
  15. Thanks everyone, and I'm still a proud mummy, I will look on istd website and see what they say, think this will be good for her xx
  16. Thanks everyone, do you know if there is a closing date to enter? And how you have to enter?
  17. My 8 year old daughter done her istd grade 1 exam today alone as no one else was ready for the exam, after her exam, her teacher was called into the studio, and the examiner told her teacher that my daughter was a very very special little girl, and that she has never ever seen a 8 year old dance as well as her, and that ballet dancers like her do not come along every day, and recommend that we what her in for the istd awards, does anyone know what these are, where they are and when the closing date is, our school has never done these before, so any help would be good! I am a very shocked and proud mummy right now, and my daughter does not even think she is very good!
  18. Congratulations what huge achievement! Happy houses tonight x how long ago was the audition, how long did it take for results x
  19. Katycustard I don't think the London results will be out for a few weeks, as the results seems to be sent by centre and when the audition was taken x
  20. Yes maybe, I think we have a long wait, as we were the last audition. Well done you must be very proud x
  21. Hi, we'll done on swl, xx what centre is this for?
  22. My dd had her royal ballet ja audition today, which all seemed to go well, and she came out really happy, and pleased, but I am still in shock, in what I saw when I got there, we were put in a room where we registered and were doing gentle warm up, my dd done a few stretches and a few jumps, and was happy, then we looked in the corner and all can describe is as a mother torturing her child, the daughter was stretching and he mother was pushing her so hard, that the girl had tears in her eyes! It got to the point where the royal ballet lady seemed to be getting distressed with it, and told her that the stretching she done was not needed, but the mother carried on, is this really needed, all the other children were watching, poor poor child, did make me laugh though, as the only stretch they did was froggy and box splits .
  23. Love the post, and thankyou, we are there tomorrow, and also will not be doing out splits, and putting our legs to our ears! X
