  1. Thank you so much @Activeswi, I’m delighted to hear that your dd’s enjoyed it enough to go back again! I’m so pleased you have said it is geared around international students too, we had been told (through the grapevine!) that everything was taught in French, so that’s a huge relief she will understand what’s going on a bit more! The show on the Saturday sounds beautiful, that will be a lovely memory for us all to cherish. Thank you so much for your advise re La Defense, I will look that up later today. My dd is not actually boarding, my husband is going to take her as she will only just have turned 10 and boarding places were incredibly limited this year due to restrictions so we didn’t want it to impact on an offer of a place for her, so that’s great to know they could potentially stay in La Defense and walk in each day.

@Marconcinithat’s brilliant advice re snacks, thank you so much. We will make sure she takes lots as I’m sure they will burn off so much energy! I didn’t know about the trip either, that sounds like a lovely excursion for them all😀 I will have to look up Repetto, I feel like that and the large availability of Degas will bankrupt me!!!

I really appreciate you both posting, and you’ve been so helpful. Thank you so much x

  2. We received an acceptance e-mail this morning for my dd to attend the 2021 Summer School (providing Covid restrictions allow us to travel!) Has anyone else been accepted for this year? Anyone from previous years have any helpful tips? I found a 2019 thread but it died out before the course so I’m hoping there might be people with some helpful information!

Oh that’s wonderful news, congratulations! 4 hours a day (give or take breaks) over 2 weeks is 40 hours of ballet. That’s like a years programme in a fortnight haha. My DS really enjoyed doing one last year. It really motivated and prepared him for the auditions shortly after, and also allowed him to shake off the disappointments of the previous year. And dare I say, it was nice to be dancing amongst new faces. Really hope your DD enjoys and thrives with the experience.

That’s a really good way of putting it, a whole programme in 2 weeks!! Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, hopefully it will be great timing to kickstart for the audition process from September. I hope your son has a wonderful experience too🤗

Hi. Has anyone done the audition yet? In the photo requirements, it is asking for a headshot (I think this is new from last year). I am just filling in the application but I cannot see anywhere which asks for the headshot? Have I missed it?

I have just emailed them to ask how we do this and will report back when I get a reply😀

@PurplePirouette - the email came from summerintensive@abt.org and it was exactly 1 week after the audition. So fingers crossed for good news this weekend for you!

@rachh I’m really sorry, I somehow managed to totally miss your reply until now🙈 Thanks so much. It’s funny how we were both waiting on RAD exam results and now we have both applied to ABT, I feel like our dd’s are following similar patterns!😀

My son did the audition on Sunday 7th Feb, and the results came on Friday 12th, from the email address summerintensive@abt.org

The ABT programme seems to present good value for money considering its for 2 weeks, and quality of training seems really high.  My son got into the Joffrey in-person programme last July, whichwas obviously cancelled and went onto zoom.  Although he was disappointed not to go 'in person', I was amazed how fun and rewarding the virtual programme could be.

    Good luck to your DD!

That’s brilliant, thank you so much. Hopefully we will hear in the next few days then. Yes I totally agree about value for money. I also like the fact that it’s guaranteed to go ahead on Zoom so when you accept a place, you know exactly what you’re signing up for and aren’t anxiously awaiting news of postponement/cancellation or a disappointing move to Zoom when that was planned all along!

  7. @RachH & @BalletBoysDad congratulations on your dc getting into the ABT Summer Intensive👏 Fabulous news! My dd auditioned last weekend and we are still waiting to hear the outcome. Does the e-mail with the audition result come from the address they sent the initial correspondence from (Summerintensive@abt.org)? I want to ‘favourite’ it will pop up on my phone then I can stop obsessively email checking!🤦🏻‍♀️ lol

  8. @sunrise81this is so helpful, thank you so much! And @cotes du rhone ! thank you for your help too😀 It’s so useful finding out these ‘real life’ examples of what it’s all like, especially if you’re like us and are the first child from our dance school to apply for Vocational school so don’t really have anyone else to talk to about it all.

Also check out what you get as part of your MDS package if you get awarded it. DD at Elmhurst gets a music lesson each week,  weekly RAD lessons, £625 uniform bursary and health insurance included........I don't think RBS is the same.

This is such useful information, thanks so much for sharing. Can I ask, do you know if this is the same for everyone on an MDS at Elmhurst, or does what’s included vary from person to person?

  10. I feel like we need our annual thread for those who are thinking of auditioning to be a Junior Associate with the Royal Ballet School. Applications for 2021 have opened today with the following details on the website:

-Applicants are to film their child dancing along to three videos between 10-15 minutes long each.

-Also required are the photographs in six dance positions that they normally request, with the addition of a headshot too this year.

-Taken from the website: “This year, all applicants will need to submit a video for their preliminary audition. If we are able, we may ask certain students to an in-person second round. However, should circumstances prevent this, we will make decisions based on the first audition, as usual.”

    - Applications are £55 and the closing date is 11am on Tuesday 23rd March 2021.

Good luck to all those thinking of applying x

  11. I don’t have a direct answer, but I can tell you that my daughter did her RAD exam on 4th Nov and we still haven’t had the results so you’re probably in for a few more weeks yet! I know some teachers who had September exams and it was approx 11.5/12 weeks wait, so with the subsequent lockdowns and restrictions, I’m not expecting anything the end of January for us at the earliest.
