  1. This is so helpful, thanks for sharing. This is really useful as it makes it clear that in Tier 4 no exams, in person or filmed can take place. I’ve tried to find the equivalent document for the ISTD but no such luck yet. We live in Tier 4 and my daughter is due to take exams in 2 weeks, her school have said they will do filmed exams if we can’t do a live one, but I’m not even sure if that will be allowed now if RAD aren’t allowing that option for Tier 4. Does anyone have any further insight into the ISTD regulations for exams in Tier 4? X

Got a yes for my DD. Still in shock! The email was about an hour ago so they may be doing them all at the same/similar times.

Sorry for the no's, but as I kept telling my DD it will soon be time to apply for next year already!

@MillicentAbsolutely thrilled for you and your dd, what gorgeous news! Worth the looong wait!lol x

  3. We also got our expected no! Did everyone with a no have this paragraph in their e-mail?

“And though we are unfortunately unable to offer (name) a place this year, we felt they worked well with the class provided and would be interested in seeing them next year after another year with their current teacher.”

Hi all, how do you know which groups your all in? Also have they asked for a second recording. I’ve sent mine in for London. Haven’t heard anything at all.

    Group 1 - London

    Group 2 - Dundee/Newcastle/ Leeds/ Manchester

    Group 3 - Eastleigh/ Totnes/Bath

    Group 4 - Birmingham

    Hope that helps😊

It looks incredible - she’s keen to do a residential there, do you have any experience of those?

No, not yet unfortunately. We were looking into applying for the summer course this year but then Covid got in the way of that. She did, however, manage to do some of the online summer classes which was great as you could pick which genres you wanted to do across the week. All of the teachers were from the full time faculty and were all incredible and lovely so I found that very encouraging. 😊

Hi. We are Group 2 and I don’t think ours have been watched yet and my DD friend hasn’t either. I say don’t think as I am not convinced the views are not mine and I can’t work out the analytics. 😂

Someone posted you will hear 1 month after deadline so 1st Oct. Group 2 will be 14th. I am only guessing here but wouldn’t London be the largest group so maybe just taking a long time to decide?
I think my daughter would have done better in a class audition as she tends to follow her dance teachers instructions better than her mother’s (as we found out in lockdown).  She really wants a place but she got annoyed with my technical incompetence and it was written all over her face. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes, although they usually give themselves longer than it takes, for example they say for the “real life” auditions that you can expect to hear by the end of June/early July but last year all of the results had been received by 21st June and some as early as 9th I think it was. London will be the largest individual location, although I’d have thought all of year 6 would have been more? I think the hardest part is that there will be so many strong candidates for London that they may want to offer the second choice centre to, but without having seen the other groups they won’t get know what the standard is across the board so it would be difficult to do that until having seen all of the groups. Perhaps we will still be sitting here waiting in November🤣

  7. Yes we are also group 1 and finding this wait agonising now! I really thought we’d have heard by now. The video applications for year 6 places across all 9 centres were turned around in 19 days and we are now on day 25, I really thought there would be less videos for London 4&5🤷🏻‍♀️ Also, people have reported that their group 2 videos have been watched, which you would think they wouldn’t do before having group 1 done and dusted. I really hope we hear soon because, even though we are expecting a no like last year, I want to be able to forget about this and move on! Here’s hoping it won’t be too much longer now🤞

I don't want to click the links as it says to only look at them once (when recording). Will they need a ballet barre and how much space would you say they need please?

They don’t need a barre or any other equipment and they don’t really need any space to move as the whole audition is done on the spot! I know that sounds odd, but it will made sense when you see it! They have to be able to lay down flat to the side and front but that is the most space you will need😊 Good luck!

I wonder if they just watch the video once? or do they watch it more than once?

    How many people normally audition?

Depending on which platform you uploaded the video onto, you may be able to see if it’s been viewed and more detailed analytics on it. YouTube allows you to do this on their website or the YouTube studio app. As for numbers, they used to publish a breakdown of applications but it’s not as detailed on the most recent 2019 report. The two previous years though it was 1230 in 2018 and 1300 in 2019 (figures taken from their annual reports).

  10. @Spamcat, I remember your name from the 2019 JA feed (which I have been looking at over the past couple of days😆) I have been reading Charlie & the Chocolate Factory with my son and this quote from the book springs to mind in this situation... “However small the chance might be of striking lucky, the chance was there.”

  11. That’s good to know that the group 3 email has now been sent, hopefully we aren’t far off results for group 1 then🤞Is anyone else waiting as impatiently as me?! I worked out that if it was the same amount of time from closing date to results released as the year 6 video submissions then that would be next Monday, although I was hoping (perhaps in vain) that we may hear a bit sooner as I imagine there were less auditioning for London 4/5 than the whole of year 6 across all 9 centres, perhaps I’m wrong?!

  12. Yes, I can’t imagine we will be allowed to watch this term for obvious reasons, but as I understand it on the last week of term (in non-Covid times!) parents watch the ballet class then instead of the coaching class the children have a workshop in varying genres of dance so it could be contemporary/jazz etc, different each term. I *think* they’re also allowed to wear their own leotards for the final week too, although don’t quote me on that bit😆 We can’t wait to get back to Tring on Sunday, I hope your DD loves it as much as mine does!

On the timetable sent, after the ballet class there’s a 45 minute session for ‘coaching/solos’ - can anyone already there she’s more light on what this is?  Thanks 😊

This class is stretching and used to be repertoire, my daughter only had 4 sessions at CBA before lockdown but they were working every week on a piece (which I presume would have been demonstrated to us at the end of term watching week had lockdown not taken that luxury away!) I’m guessing they are moving to solos so that they will perhaps teach a set dance(s), but with the idea of performing it individually rather than requiring the children to be close creating a group piece. They also do stretching in that class. They did have two different teachers, one for the ballet and one for the coaching, and as I understand that will still be the case, it’s just they won’t move studio anymore. Hope that helps a bit😊 What group will your DD be in?

I wouldn't write it off! If the scholarship auditions go ahead for next summer and a venue is 'do-able' for you, I would definitely go for it! At the very least you have had a fantastic class led by a wonderful teacher and the shot of a funded place as a bonus! My dd always enjoyed the audition classes and loved the whole YBSS experience hugely!

I did notice that it mentioned ‘pop up events’ on their website so I’ll definitely keep an eye out for those. Any experience would be a bonus!

My DD 15 was also supposed to attend White Lodge SI20, attended many of the virtual sessions and got a Direct Entry award to Covent Garden for 2021.  Emotional year, SI20 would have been her 2nd and last year at White Lodge.  She wasn't thrilled about virtual, but I encouraged her anyway as it seems RBS is always looking for and awarding dancers who attend FT auditions, Master Classes, etc.  So this really gave a boost to her motivation and confidence.  Congrats tired dance mummy to your DD!

Oh wow, that’s so lovely and what a great reward to look forward to for next year😀 It’s really lovely to hear that these rewards have been given out, and even in less than ideal circumstances, there’s still a silver lining🤗 x

My DD was due to go to YBSS this year. When it was cancelled, the email said that everyone’s places were to be transferred to  2021 as well as all bursaries and scholarships. Obviously there will be people who can’t make it next year, so there is a  cut off point (jan 2021 I think) to confirm that you still want your place/ scholarship. There are also people on the waiting list, so am guessing that there will be very few places left open after this.

That makes sense, and definitely seems very fair. At least I know to write it off for next year and think about applying for 2022! ☺️
