Yes she’ll board - from what I understand there’s a few of that age who do and they try and room them together 😊

Ok awesome, we will definitely bare that in mind and I’ll get in touch with you if we book😊

My DD, 10 next year,  will be at Malvern. She hasn’t been before (though was booked in for both Easter and summer this year) but sounds such a lovely week!

Ooh, that does look amazing. Would your dd board? We are 2.5 hours away so would either have to board or make a holiday out of it for the whole family! 😀

For me personally, I think your best bet for a 10yr old next year, Malvern Ballet summer intensive would be ideal! Very welcoming, fab classes and more fun!

I think YBSS scholarships mostly go to older students!

This is very helpful, thank you so much. I will check them out. It’s good to have realistic expectations if she is unlikely to get a scholarship then, thank you x

My DD was 14 and due to attend the RBS summer intensive at White Lodge.  The course was completely cancelled and an online intensive was offered, this was open to anyone and no audition was necessary (only that it wasn't for beginners).  My DD did two weeks of classes as this was what she had planned anyway.   My understanding for RBS was that my DD would be required to audition for 2021 intensives as normal.   However, DD has been very fortunate and has been selected by the Artistic team (who were watching all the online classes) awarded a 'Direct Entry' for one RBS intensive next year without audition or application fee.  I'm not sure how many of these awards were given and who to.

Wow, that’s amazing that your daughter was awarded direct entry, what a lovely reward for her hard work. I think that’s a really nice touch that they awarded some of those and hopefully that softens the blow a bit for missing out on this years course. X

  5. With virtually all of this years summer intensives cancelled, understandably I’m sure there are many of us who would love to look forward to opportunities next year in the hope that the world will be a little brighter by then. I am interested to know if your DC had a place at a summer Intensive this year, what has been offered to you, eg have you automatically been given a place for 2021 or the whole course refunded and cancelled and you have to reapply as if you were a new candidate?

My dd will be 10 next summer so the magical age where most intensives start accepting children, although I am wondering if most or all places for some of them may already be allocated. I am particularly looking at Yorkshire Ballet Seminars as we were keen to audition to try and get a scholarship, although I’m wondering if none will be available now? Or perhaps this years will be carried over and a new allocation given out of the 2021 funding? Have Royal Ballet carried forward places to next year, or will all places have to be reapplied for? Very interested to know your experiences😀

  6. Hey,

My dd attends YDA Associates and we can’t recommend it highly enough! She started last September so she’s done a year now, and even with the disruption from Coronavirus, they have offered a wonderful series of lessons and have a brilliant plan for the autumn term. My dd also did their online summer school which was fabulous! We are very pleased with them. My dd does have the tracksuit top (not bottoms) and the warm up, she does wear them most weeks but I can’t really remember if most others do🤦🏻‍♀️ I think you would be fine with going on the first week and checking out what others have if you wanted to do it that way. They do need a white bow in their bun though and they’re pretty strict on that, so get a few of those sorted would be my top tip!! Let me know if there’s anything else you want to know and good luck with the uniform x

  7. Hi,

I’m looking for Degas leotards suitable for auditions so mainly styles 9501 or 9502 in a 12A, front lined. My daughter does have a 14A that we have made the straps smaller, so may consider this size too. Ideally after blues/greens/purples or pinks but may consider other colours. Many thanks: )

So they took 4 out of 105?! Crikey... That’s great she enjoyed the audition.

They took 4 into DDs class but will have taken others into the older groups out of the 105, but I don’t know how many. I’d guess it was 4 out of 25ish of that age group but it’s not that easy to work out with cross over of ages and levels etc. I’d guess they perhaps took 15ish from the day?!

My DD was similar, came out of CBA saying “I don’t mind if I don’t get in, I loved it so it was worth coming for the class!”

  9. Hi,

My DD auditioned for CBA last December. I know there are fewer pupils auditioning for that intake than in the summer, but I believe that day there were 105. They group the auditions by age but seemed to have a lot of young pupils auditioning in our group and the next one up who probably would all be going for places in group 1 and 2. My DD was offered a place, I believe there were 4 of them who started together in January. This time, however, could be different with all that’s happened over the past few months and also those going to vocational will leave now whereas they wouldn’t have at Christmas. My DD really enjoyed the audition, it definitely involved more ‘dancing’ than the JA audition, eg small combinations taken in groups of 3. I can’t remember any specifics I’m afraid. I hope your student enjoys the experience, the Tring studios are gorgeous and the faculty are so lovely.

  10. Is anyone else still waiting to hear from Ballet Boost? I understand that they had a lot of applications, although it's making me nervous that it's nearly 3pm on the day they said they would inform everyone and we still haven't heard anything!

  11. I am very interested in this thread too. My DD currently does CBA and we are wondering whether it’s worth auditioning for Ballet Boost too, our main concern being the travel time between the two venues. @Mum of unicorn dancer, how long do you have to travel between the classes? We finish Tring at 12:15 and have been told the likely start time for my DD at Ballet Boost if she were successful would be 1:30, therefore only giving 1 hour 15 mins for a journey that looks like it’s an hour on a good day🥴 Is this similar to the time you have between the two? How do you find the journey?

@BalletBoysDad whilst we only have first hand experience of Tring CBA at the moment, I can’t recommend it enough. The staff all seem very friendly and welcoming and my daughter really enjoys her classes there. We are still fairly new to the scheme but it’s one of the things we have both really missed during lockdown and we can’t wait to return in September.

Well done to the yesses and commiserations to the not yets - are these ones today all London 1 so far?

Do people think they will make it to London 4 or is that just unrealistic? Am hopefull they will want it all off their desks before the weekend...!

They managed all of London in one day last year, and they have started early today, so I’ll remain hopeful with you that London 4 will be completed today and we can both resume normal non email refreshing life for the weekend!!

I feel sick 🤢 my nerves can’t take it 🤣

Nor can mine, I can’t eat my lunch🙈 I think it’s safe to assume London won’t be today now as they’ve already done two venues in one day😩

It was lovely. I put the news in a card congratulating her for EYB and adding that it was also for JAs. She looked at me and cried 😍. She is very excited and I’m still reading the email constantly to check I’ve got it right! X

Wonderful, what a great couple of days for you and her! X
