  1. It’s amazing how determined and hardworking they are. My daughter at such a young age currently is practicing un prompted and doing her stratches. She had such a love of ballet and I do hope that continues. As I say st the moment her teachers are great, encouraging snd supportive. Saying that her mainstream school teacher is the opposite and it is horrible to see their confidence crushed At least they know they have loving supportive parents alongside them I’m glad things are going better.
  2. I appreciate this is an old post but wonder how things are now? I have recently discovered Ballet boost. Have you ever looked at this programme as they do a non vocational option in London called the balletic arts. I have read about it and it sounds fantastic. It would allow your dya dependent on where you are based to be at home and to also continue to study ballet. A girl from another school came to ours for a taster on Saturday and it really opened my eyes. The poor thing burst into tears as they are so unhappy where they are now. The school my daughter is at is so friendly and supportive. She has come on so much in a short time and has such a love of dance. It should feel like that. A school that promotes fear and retribution is not a healthy place for a young mind to be. Im so sorry your going through this and truly hope things improve. It may be as this is an older post they already have
  3. I have asked for it to be removed. I did message a moderator as can’t edit it myself. Thank you Anna. Feel free to delete the post as I have the answer I needed now Thank you.
  4. I have spoken to them on the phone and now e mailed. Waiting for information regarding a video audition
  5. My daughter would love to audition for ballet boost. Does anyone happen to know if they offer more than one audition date a year? I am really hoping she will have the opportunity she adores ballet. She only started in January but has been chosen to do a pre associates class and is progressing well. As soon as she wakes up in the morning she has a theraband our stretching her feet like her teacher has shown her it’s adorable :). It sounds like a great opportunity to support her training this far. Also she would do ballet everyday if she could so she would love an additional class!
  6. My daughter has missed the opportunity to audition for Devon this year. I have only just heard of ballet boost. She is auditioning for Elmhurst. It sounds great and she would love to audition when the auditions are open again. Fantastic it is nearby also! Her teachers are great now and will only compliment her training further she has only been doing ballet a short time but seen so much progression bless her
  7. Hi Darkbeans I have only just seen your response that’s great thank you
  8. Thank you. We are only able to do the festivals the school take part in. Will take every opportunity to help her confidence and performance though My daughter is also applying to audition for Elmhurst associates this summer. Even if she doesn’t get in I’m hoping it will be a wonderful experience for her
  9. Thank you for this lengthy response. I am getting organised already! Tutu and decorations ordered already Izzy is very excited and although nervous I think once she is up on stage she will be in the moment. I do worry about ‘the face’ as she seems a very much feels the music and emotion dancer of that makes sense? She does show emotion but not with a beaming smile. The silly thing is as soon as she stops dancing she has the biggest smile on her face! It’s a mix of concentration and just how she is when she dances I guess? have to see how it goes. On the upside she’s Ben using her theraband daily and doing calf raises as per teacher guidance and her feet are looking amazing. If they are looking at technique I think from what her teacher says so far she will do well if she carries on as she is i have also ordered quite a few hotfix rhinestones so she will dazzle in a classic way not too much
  10. Hi, My daughter is applying for junior associates in plymouth this year. We haven’t as yet sent the application off. Is anyone else applying? She will be 8 in June. Unfortunately due to a misunderstanding she is not applying to RAD this year as her teacher thought that she had to be 8 at the beginning of June. Since have found out it is August. Really hoping she gets the opportunity to join the Elmhurst programme she is so keen and adores ballet. She has only been doing it a short time but has learnt so much. Her teacher is amazing and says she ‘stands out’. She is incredibly fortunate to have such supportive teachers presently and the associate programme would really compliment her current lessons. hope to find some others who have been through the audition process or are doing the same this year :)
  11. Her school only do 3/4 a year so should be ok thanks for the tips that’s very helpful.
  12. I think it’s more the idea she will be on the stage on her own and she’s worried she will forget her dance. She is more a technical dancer not a ‘face’ dancer. I’m sure this will come with time as her confidence improves. I’ll just keep reinforcing it is about her having fun and enjoying the experience. A few of the girls are doing it I believe I will check and find out which. They do a invite only to the festivals at the school. She is looking forward to wearing a pretty dress
  13. My daughter is doing her first festival in October. They start rehearsals the end of August. She is. A bit nervous and excited and I didn’t know if others who had done festivals before could share any advice. She will be 8 in June and has only been doing ballet since last September but absolutely adores it. She has previously been nervous on stage in school performances but is very confident off stage. Thank you :)
  14. So sorry to hear about your crash. Glad you are making a recovery. The soap and glory foot cream smells lovely and is very rich. You could also try something like Aveeno (a cream for eczema) if your adverse to smells at the moment. It is very moisturising.
  15. Hi, I just picked up this thread whilst looking at Elmhurst in Plymouth. Did your lo do the audition in the end? Any information would be amazingly helpful. Thank you.
  16. I think I may do a couple of privates over Easter holidays. Reading the opinions of you all the point about her having her grade exam in June makes sense to not stop completely. She does some stretching everyday routinely which she enjoys as part of her pre associate course. We are away one of the weeks at Easter anyhow. Summer will be a long relax. I have no doubt she will be stretching and dancing inside and outside. Hopefully on the beach if the sun comes out Thank you for all the comments. I appreciate it. Sorry for any typos I can’t seem to find an edit button!.
  17. Hi, the ballet school my daughter goes tok has 4 week breaks over Easter and 9 weeks over the summer. A number of parents asked for privates to keep technique up for their children. My daughter started last September and is doing a pre associates class. Is this something I should also be doing or should I let her do her own stretches from class/practice and rest during these holiday times? I don’t want her to feel she’s missing out but also want to make sure she gets ‘down time’ if that’s best. Just curious to know what others do. She won’t be able to audition for Royal ballet associates until next year due to when her birthday falls. The summer holiday is after her RAD exams. Thank you in advance.
  18. She did also perform in the Sadler Wells Royal ballet so have e mailed them too
  19. I have e mailed and hope to find some information. Have found a royal ballet gazette from 1930 when she passed her elementary exams
  20. My daughter would love to find information on her Great Grandma who was a prima ballerina in the Paris opera. Sadly she’s now deceased. Any pictures were destroyed in a house fire sadly. She has a beautiful painting that her g grandmother painted. Does anyone know if you are able to find a list or photos anywhere by the ballerinas name and date of birth? I have tried myself with google but no joy. Thank you in advance.
  21. She also thinks it’s great fun (she thinks I have great monkey feet and found that hilarious). Anything to entertain
  22. She did ask if she can do monkey feet ‘picking up pencils and marbles with her feet’ her friend does this and thinks it would be fun. Is this ok and would it be harmful? I had had no intention of getting her a foot stretching device she is doing some normal stretches and working on her balance for her core though but enjoys doing that
  23. I haven’t put Izzy into any other forms of dance yet. The only other dance she’s shown an interest in is Acro dance and contemporary but I have heard it can be confusing technique wise. Shes loves ballet and is busy doing her grade 1,2 and her school associate class.
