  1. I just checked on my Swiss settings and I get the same as you describe Alison. The way I am watching is through Hola! VPN add-on in Chrome and setting the country to Russia. As I said before, the live stream seems to be only for Russian audience. You can search for a VPN add on for your browser, but Hola! is free and works pretty well for me. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/unlimited-free-vpn-hola/gkojfkhlekighikafcpjkiklfbnlmeio?hl=en Also don't stress about the timing, you will be able to watch it for 24 hours after the performance. EDIT: The online stream is the same content as in cinemas, but only available online for Russia.
  2. I think it 10 minutes to go, but you can check the online stream already. http://media.bolshoi.ru/play/#/channel/play/257
  3. As a person who particularly likes the updates and information about the member countries here, particularly helpful and informative by Angela. Could you take this elsewhere please guys?
  4. Isn't the performance (things) the subject of the sentence, (idiocy) this young man has made of things? As in Polunin has made an idiot of ballet performances rather than Polunin is an idiot?
  5. You see insults where people see critical description of what they have seen, which is why I wonder why you are so defensive to comments of these dancers, which is allowed. The superlatives were also 'thick and fast' for a young Pollution wowing the crowds The reason I asked about the length of your posts was because I wasn't sure if the constraint to the length of your posts was the intelligence of your device.... that obviously isn't the problem.
  6. I am surprised, I think that it is not even the most critical review of the show in this thread, could you at least quote the piece you find so particularly offensive? I don't want to be insulting BB, but is there a reason that you post only a single line or two? maybe you are restricted by a mobile device? I am not being facetious in asking. May I ask if you paid for your tickets, or you were invited as a friend of the group?
  7. Where is the insult BB? She bought her ticket for the performance, agreed with another post, and said like others, that to criticise RB and larger companies, then to have a project that was in generally seen as a terrible show by critics and the public alike. She then feels as an RB ticket payer that he should not be allowed back to the RB. Where again, if you pay your money for the magazine articles that are written again and again criticising the RB with his 'bad boy of ballet' image, telling the world he took cocaine. Which sensible employer would take back a person who walked out on them, told the world they took cocaine and other drugs during the work for them, and then went to the press to criticise you as often as possible. Then they opened up a competing firm, where the result was terrible and they showed the lost some talent or judgement since you hired them. So as the RB do you think they should welcome him with open arms? When they clearly have had a wonderful season with their new young talent where they work their socks off to try to get anywhere near to be a principal dancer, and are delighting the audiences and critics? I wouldn't imagine in his current state that Mr Polunin would be a positive influence around the place. I am sorry that in this thread, there seem to be those who are sorry to see Mr Polunin has lost his way, and are tired of buying tickets and giving a chance for his projects. I don't think anyone is glad about the situation as it stands BB, but to say it is in insulting is ridiculous, and I for one am quite tired of one line criticisms of anyone who dares to say their opinion about the situation mentioning Mr Polunin. Have you been to see the show BB? Would you care to share your thoughts?
  8. Just to be clear, the social media from bolshoi and on the websites speaks about the live net stream in Russian, as previously the live streams were showed only on their youtube channel in Russia. The reasons for the geographical difference should be clear because of cinema screenings being paid for in the UK and internationally so the live screening isn't really for those outside of Russia. I watch watch the streams on their website using a VPN to connect to the russian geography and can watch through that. This is of course not illegal in any way, and Chrome themselves offer such VPNs that people use to get US Netflix, and watch football matches in other countries, or the BBC iplayer in other countries. Morally, there could be maybe some discussion about supporting cinema showings etc.. Some posters here say they can anyway watch the live streams on the website in the UK, so give it a try, if not google VPN. Then buy all the programmes and better seats at the next Bolshoi visit to make up for the price of the cinema ticket. The Bolshoi theatre shouldn't miss out on the money An important note is that the screening is available on the Bolshoi website for 24hours after the live screening so you can watch it over, skip through parts, or watch whenever you like.
  9. The trailer can be found on youtube here: Well, their Facebook says that it will be streamed on their bolshoi.ru website to people 'In Russia' https://www.facebook.com/bolshoitheatre/posts/891435527665151 However some people here have said that they are able to access the footage from the UK directly. (without VPN)
  10. Polunin Noooooo!!! We shall not let you go! Will not let you go!! Dame Mason.... The Royal Opera House was nothing of a place for me.... for meeeeee! Project Polunin Rhapsody
  11. It's a story he should know well, replacing 'own image' with 'own view of ballet' and and 'losing contact with the dance world'
  12. Indeed, however from the magazine article photos he is taking treatment to remove his Natascha tattoo on his hand. His loyalty has an end point it seems.
  13. May I ask the UK based members if there was any discussion of Carlos Acosta's race when he first started dancing? I ask because it seems that Misty Copeland has really promoted her race and has spun lots of stories and promotional campaigns from it. I assume that there was not very much talk about it, but thought to ask. Also, just in thinking about past British Dancers, I was surprised also that noone has mentioned Wayne Sleep, as he seemed to be on television also very often, as a proponent of overcoming the views of shorter dancers, and of course being a world record holder for Entre Chats.
  14. do you ever wonder if they found your posts on this forum, and they take longer just because of the things you post?
  15. Can I say here that for me is where it get confusing for me. I often order things from a website called wish.com (no affiliation or ownership etc) which usually ships from China. The things there are really great value clothing items, and inventive electrical items. Anyway, I can order a small electrical item or piece of clothing for cheaper than any shop, and the delivery price will range from 1chf (less than a pound) to 6chf which is much less than ordering from the UK through amazon or such like. Therefore I find it strange that China can deliver items at such rates and without me worrying about import taxes and such like. They are of course not part of any Tax union, just to say about my confusion with products shipping and markets.
  16. After recent developments... How many Scottish dancers are categorised in the United Kingdon? To be fair, Theresa May feels that such a referendum and discussions are divisive and not productive, I won't be commenting further, as I can see such a discussion heating up very fast.
  17. Apologies for the confusion. I was referring to some previous posts that people would chain themselves to the ROH (KOH's Office) if she was not promoted. I do not think that being a principal is to be chained to RB, not at all, and I agree with your points.
  18. ...(reaches for P in the dictionary) It made me laugh to remember an Episode of Friends and Joey bought an encyclopaedia and could only afford the letter V and so talked about things starting with V the whole time
  19. I can understand that promotions may be a symbol of talent or success, but isn't dancing a reward unto itself, and that Naghdi especially is dancing so beautifully, and getting her chance to dance the principal roles should mean a lot more to her and the audience than some political statement, that may or may not be possible due to balancing the company etc. I would hope that she is promoted, but also that she should look back on a wonderful season and realising her talent with support from Mr O'hare in casting, rather than to be upset that she wasn't promoted, and joining those chaining themselves to the ROH. From the Polunin thread, I think looking for these targets (principal dancer) as validation in itself, rather than enjoying the dance and the opportunities. A great example could be Xander Parrish, where he is still isn't Principal at the Mariinsky, but has a wonderful time dancing around the world and is seen as a shining start of the world, and is loving it. Celebrate talent and dance, lets not get all corporate about it
  20. Dear Emeralds, I apologise for misunderstanding your post, and I didn't not want at all to discourage you or anyone form participating. I misread the following paragraphs as a different point and so replied about Bolle, Zakharova etc. I totally agree with you and others that 'fame' is totally regional and to ask friends or colleagues is a great way of investigating. So you were totally right about the original question. Sorry, English is not my first language and again, I am surprised that people feel my words are not with empathy. I will try harder
  21. Roberto Bolle sells out stadiums in Italy. His Roberto Bolle & Friends tour attracts the best stars of the world, and in Summer he dances and sells out Arena di Verona which seats 14,000 people. I am not sure there are any other dancers who can claim to have achieved that. Or could at all. Zakharova is clearly the definition of a russian Prima Ballerina and known throughout the world and a household name in Russia and Italy where she is a guest at La Scala. Vishneva guests in the US and Russia and has her own gala circuit too. I understand that for you 'absolutely not', but the idea of the general public and fame is that it is not representative of the ballet fans or world, but of the ticket buying general public. The three you mention have many more fans globally than Acosta or Bussell and prove it with ticket sales. Although Bussell could be argued to pull in a lot larger numbers in television figures.
  22. From the comments above I agree that Zakharova would join the 'Top Table' of World Famous ballet dancers right now. Darcey Bussell isn't dancing any more so doesn't really qualify, I wonder what separated he apart from the dancers in the last 10-15 years who have not emerged as household names. It seems also that by sheer force (of.... it doesn't much seem like it is on screen charisma tbh) DB has been the sole ballet person on TV to make shows about ballet stars of the past etc...
  23. Thank you Quintus for the follow up. As a forum, I am sure there is a wide range of experience about the 'fame game' topic for dancers and general name recognition. I think this forum is generally UK focussed and I am sure there could be lots of stories about Bussell vs other talented dancers of her time who were not generally considered more famous. To this end, I guess for me, fame is about if I talked to a friend or stranger about the ballet, who they might have heard of who is dancing in these times. Like I say, I would like to think this could be a thread to discuss light-hearted stories or views rather than an argument that is looking for a definitive answer. Although I think the pool of talent is huge in the ballet world, it seems still that only a few names for whatever reason reverberate into the press pages or forum inches.
